Italian translation

The correct translation of Editor in italian language is Curatore. Editore means Publisher. I don't know how to change it. --Luigi Chiesa (talk) 09:18, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

I changed it at http://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Wm-license-book-editor/it the changes should show up here at some point. Are other Italian translations OK? --Jarekt (talk) 12:50, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Institution fields

Several times in last year I run into books, archival documents or maps using {{Book}} template which came with Institution/department(aka location)/Accession number metadata similar to the one used by {{Artwork}} and {{Photograph}} templates. I would like to propose to add those fields to Book template. --Jarekt (talk) 15:05, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

TemplateData

I have added TemplateData Fields to the template, need some feedback link Rasel160 (talk)

See Commons:TemplateData: TemplateData are to be added through {{TemplateBox}}. Jean-Fred (talk) 07:02, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
Where did that conversation happen? I'm pretty sure that there are huge holes in such a plan, and User:Rillke and I had had a conversation about it before, when I implemented TD in the Information template. We built TemplateData to help partly replace big nasty template documentation templates, but it looks like this is a step in the exactly opposite direction... --MarkTraceur (talk) 04:58, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
changed to TemplateBox format new link Rasel160 (talk) 04:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Maintenance category for pages using nonexistent parameters

I suggest adding an examination for nonexistent parameters used in file description pages transcluding Template:Book. This has previously been done for Template:Information. The affected file description pages are found in Category:Pages using Information template with incorrect parameter. Thousands of parameter errors (spelling errors, markup errors, vandalism, use of wrong template) have already been fixed (semi-)automatically or manually. Thoughts? --Leyo 08:54, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Good idea, do it! Multichill (talk) 09:47, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Yup, sounds good! Jean-Fred (talk) 19:30, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
A list of all allowed parameters is needed. Unfortunately, Template:Book#Parameter is not complete. --Leyo 20:00, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
I implemented the examination. Category:Pages using Book template with incorrect parameter is being filled. If I missed any allowed parameters, please add them. --Leyo 15:30, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Please also do this check for templates as several/many errors originate from Navigation templates like {{Ausführlicher Bericht}}. --Denniss (talk) 16:24, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Done by Jarekt. It is, however, still possible that I missed some allowed parameters since the documentation is not up-to-date. --Leyo 18:14, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
I just added "license" and there might be some others. --Jarekt (talk) 20:56, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Please see here, Institution and ID seem valid as well. --Denniss (talk) 16:44, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

So far the majority of errors is from the use of "Page" and Data checked", in most cases left empty. Anyone willing to remove them per Bot, starting with the templates? --Denniss (talk) 09:17, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

I did bunch of them and will do some more. --Jarekt (talk) 12:09, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
There are now only 120 files left in the maintenance category. --Leyo 08:13, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
The 7 remaining file pages are hard nuts to crack. --Leyo 08:33, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I have done six of the 7 last ones, and added a "BNF" parameter even though that may not be the best long term solution. We might want to consider a "dimension" paramaters for cases like [File:1876 Haverhill Massachusetts map byBailey BPL 10416.png this] (actually, the distinction between artwork and book is not always that clear). --Zolo (talk) 09:32, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Authority control

Currently, authority control is added through parameters like ISBN or OCLC. Can I add an "authority control" parameter, so that we can add {{Book authority control}} directly. That would be more flexible and more consistent with {{Creator}}. --Zolo (talk) 06:36, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

At the moment {{Book authority control}} takes only 3 parameters ISBN, LCCN, OCLC, and all 3 of them are in {{Book}}, so adding {{Book authority control}} directly does not make a difference. However I agree that it is counter-intuitive that we use 2 different approaches for adding "authority control": through a single parameter where we pass a template used by {{Creator}} or {{Institution}} and the approach used by {{Book}} where all parameters are passed to {{Book}} which internally calls {{Book authority control}}. That might be confusing. I am fine with adding "authority control" parameter but I am afraid that using 2 alternative systems in {{Book}} might also be confusing. I am also concerned with compatibility with tools which might be depend on some format of {{Book}} template. There are many local wikisource repositories and they might have some tools interacting with {{Book}} template. Changes to the template should be done with cooperation with maintainers of such tools (if they exist). Does anybody know if that is a concern or not? --Jarekt (talk) 15:36, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
How exactly would you do this e.g. in File:La Villemarqué - Dictionnaire français-breton de Le Gonidec, volume 1.djvu? --Leyo 17:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Actually I have used it this way with a BNF link, apparently forgetting to check that it worked. Leyo, I would not change anything to the file description, but the output would look like File:Bedier - La Chanson de Roland.djvu). It is true that we need to check for interferences with current use. There does not seem to be any timeline for Commons:Wikidata for media info, but if that is not too distant, it may be just as well to wait for it. --Zolo (talk) 18:03, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
I guess that would be a perfect example of file that would benefit from the change Zolo is proposing. A new "authority control" parameter would overwrite ISBN, LCCN, OCLC parameters, and you could pass into "authority control" either {{Book authority control}} or {{Authority control}} (in case of this file. Also may be we should merge {{Book authority control}} and {{Authority control}} templates. --Jarekt (talk) 18:07, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
