Don't encourage problem tag blanking

I removed the statement encouraging users to remove problem tags. This statement was introduced by Pieter Kuiper (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log · upload log) after a Village Pump discussion regarding no source, no license and no permission templates. The appeal process for files tagged as blatant copyright violations was not discussed. This note demonstrably misled uploaders into thinking that it's okay to remove {{Copyvio}} tags from the copyright violations that they have uploaded. Oh my, I'm sorry and I'm very confuse. You may help, please. As far as I know, {{Copyvio}} is a "precompiled" {{Speedy delete}} tag. So, if I use {{Copyvio}} or {{Speedy delete|copyright violation}} is the same thing, isn't it? But why I can remove {{Copyvio}} in any moment but I can't remove a {{Speedy delete}} tag? I don't know... In any case, in this moment there are wrong translations: some stated that you can remove the tag, some stated that you cannot remove the tag, and same stated that you must start a DR... @Trixt I agree with you, it would be great to harmonize these templates. However, I don't want to lose possibility to remove a frivolous or obviously wrong tag without needless bureaucracy -- there are a lot of random taggers around. I think experienced users understand that vandalism and obviously incorrect edits can always be undone with an explanation (or warning in the case of deliberate disruption). For example, I think Bahnfrend's actions on File:Metronibusa.jpg, where I got the rationale wrong, are fine (see the File talk:Metronibusa.jpg talk page). In 99% of cases, though, {{Copyvio}} shouldn't be removed – certainly not by inexperienced editors who think that everything is fine if they add a fair use rationale, and I think that's what the instructions should be geared towards. We document the rules, not the rare exceptions that confirm them. When we come across clear-cut exceptions, we ignore the rules. I watchlist all the files I tag, mainly after realising that you were following in my footsteps, quietly removing justified tags. Not everyone uses their watchlist that actively. That's one problem. Another problem is this. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:43, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

@Pieter Kuiper: the problem occurs when user A sees a copyvio (e.g. for no FOP on that country) uploaded by a user B. User B removes the tag (we assume good faith, he doesn't know FOP rules). User A is not an admin or a very passionate user and obviously doesn't watchlist every file he tags. The result is that we have another copyvio on Commons... Perhaps we can do this: "please don't remove the copyvio tag if you are the uploader"; this may help.--Trixt (talk) 21:03, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Edit request (add "2=1=" to copyvionote instructions)

to:

<small style="color:purple">{{tlf|subst:[[Template:copyvionote|copyvionote]]|2=1={{FULLPAGENAME}}}} ~~~~</small>

Change appeal language

{{Edit request}} I propose changing "Appeal: If you think that the file does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, please open a regular deletion request and remove this template." with "If you disagree with this {{Namespace}}'s speedy deletion, replace this tag with a regular deletion request." (sans tl). My proposed language makes it clearer that the tag must be replaced up front (so people don't have to read the whole sentence) and is taken from the {{Speedydelete}} template with one exception: "appeal" is removed and the first part of the sentence is bolded instead. I think this makes it slightly clearer when users skim the template to figure out what to do, and may help non-native english speakers. If my extra change is too much, I still feel like copy-pasting the appeal portion from {{Speedydelete}} would be an improvement. Best, Mdaniels5757 (talk) 01:51, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
