Hi Raoli, if we assume the original description is always English, we can assume that someone who is able to translate it also understands Translate this. You may request a second opinion on that, though. -- Rillke(q?) 11:43, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
In Italian very often we use this form. Traducilo is equal to Traduci questo or Traduci ciò. From the grammatical point of view questo or ciò or -lo are demonstrative pronouns and have the same meaning. The difference is in the type of speech: if you want a more academic language use ciò, you use questo in all general cases and you use -lo in speaking from person to person. This is the reason for my use of this form. The word questo come from latin iste, ista, istud, ciò come from latin hic, haec, hoc and -lo come from latin ille, illa, illud. So in Latin have the same meaning too. Raoli ✉ (talk) 15:44, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I didn't know that the origin of the demonstrative pronouns (is a suffix like -lo actually a pronoun?) are the Latin ones. But it was fascinating to learn.
Concerning the edit request, I did neither question the indexical use nor choice of the demonstrative pronouns. I have to trust you because I am not a speaker of the Italian language. The template the request is on, contains just some logic whether to show a “translate this” label or not.
The text is saved in Template:Gadget-translation and I've now added the text. But I am not entirely sure whether it makes sense to localise the text Translate this because in order to translate, you have to understand English anyway.
If I managed to misinterpret your response, I am sorry. Regards Rillke(q?) 20:59, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Now I understand because you wanted to leave it in English. You're right, the translation is unnecessary here. Raoli ✉ (talk) 20:34, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
