Template talk:SimplSVG

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Sarang in topic user=

Don't want to be too nitpicky, but a native speaker of English would probably not abbreviate "Simple" to "Simpl"... AnonMoos (talk) 10:48, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Isn't it an abbreviation of "simplified" or “simplify”, or even usefully ambiguous? —Unbitwise (talk) 23:04, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I rather thought like Unbitwise guesses. Thank you AnonMoos, you may find lots of things like that due to my poor English. Hopefully you understand anyway, and it does not hurt you too much. sarang사랑 13:27, 28 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Examples how the template can display edit

While the categorization is always the same, with the parameter vstyle (abbr. "vs") the number of lines is influenced:

  • 0max. information: vs=<nowiki/>: 3 lines
  • 0less information: vs=fl: 2 lines, smaller tool icon
  • least information: vs=none: 1 line, no tool information

With " ", "S", "M" or "H" as parameter (number 5 to 8) the text is designed, with "Z" suppressed.

The code of the template decides which one is the default layout.

Clarify description edit

"or {{ Image generation | 9 = + | 10 = S | other parameters as described below }}"

What means that?? The parameters are nowhere described. Furthermore, is this template replaced by the "Image generation"? This is for sure an extraordinary template, but more extra ordinary is to have several templates of the same!? (@Sarang: ) GreetingsUser: Perhelion 15:32, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I see now this parameters implement this template in the other template. Had anyone recognized this per description?User: Perhelion 15:37, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I am still absent (in New Zealand), but I happened to see this posting.
I confess, the "9=+|10=S" are a violation of {{Igen}} that it can be used even to set the {{SimplSVG}}; may be I am the only one doing that, but there are also not so many users working with either of these two templates...
@Perhelion: , do you think a description would be useful? Most people don't read them at all! But I can care of it when I am back. Greetings -- sarang사랑 08:30, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Gruss -- sarang사랑 16:27, 18 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

user= edit

If I inferred correctly, this parameter specifies a person who made changes to the image. The {{Retouched picture}} uses editor= for the same purpose. I suggest to switch the name to editor in this (and possibly other) templates for consistency – of course, leaving user as its alias. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 11:53, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @Incnis Mrsi: it is a very good idea to simplify its usage that way - but it is not so easy. When any of the parameters of Retouched picture is used in Image generation, the Retouched picture is inserted; by that reason, the parameter "editor" is not free for that purpose (the same restriction exists for the parameters "editoff", "orig", "origoff", "r" and "R").
I am not at all happy with the different development that now the same object is referenced with either "editor" (one template), "by" (often), "user" (most times) and more parameters and aliases.
Of course it could be done for SimplSVG and all the other "Created with"-templates; but that would cause just a more difficult inconsistency with Image generation; I suggest to use not the different templates but only Image generation, where the usage of "user=" can be simplified by the alias "u=" and the more powerful "U=". -- sarang사랑 16:00, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Return to "SimplSVG" page.
