Charles Sharp (Charlesjsharp)

Background

Wildlife portrait photographer from the UK. I have been contributing for more than ten years and most of my photos illustrate articles on English Wikipedia. My web site is Sharp Photography. I store 7000+ full size images on Flickr, but the latest edits and crops will be here on Commons.
I started a new free magazine with photography tips in May 2020.
My best photos will be in my galleries of favourites, Featured pictures (479 from 35 countries), Quality images (3,828) and Valued images (3,049)

My equipment includes a Canon R6 Mark II mirrorless body with 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM zoom lens and R6 (Mark I) with 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM FR lens. I use a Manfrotto carbon 4-stage monopod. This kit replaced two Canon EOS 80D bodies with 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II (Mark I replaced in 2016), 1.4 extender; 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM EF lenses and Manfrotto aluminium 3-stage monopod.
I used to use the Helicon FB Tube fitted to the Macro lens for focus bracketing. I now use the built-in focus bracketing capability of the R6 on both zoom and macro. I don't use a tripod.
I have used Photoshop CS6 for post-processing since 2014. In 2018 I acquired focus-stacking software from Helicon Focus. In 2020 I started using the Topaz AI software suite for noise reduction and sharpening.
Before 2016 I used EOS 70D bodies and before 2014 I used a Canon EOS 350D/450D with 75-300mm lens. I started taking pictures in the 1960s: Kodak box camera, Yashica 35mm camera and Weston Master light meter. followed by various Pentax 35mm film cameras and Pentax SLRs.
