All media files should be put in the most precise category to which they can be reliably assigned. It's better to leave them in a higher level category if you are unsure. When a category becomes filled with unidentified images, a "Unidentified" category may be created.
When species categories are placed in a genus category they are sorted by the second part of the name. This should be lowercase. E.g. [[Category:Genus|species]].
Genus categories do not use a sort key.
Unless there is a lot of subtaxa, higher ranks can be sorted with a space plus their name. E.g. [[Category:Familia| Subfamilia]].
Extinct taxa are sorted with a † preceding their name. E.g. [[Category:Familia|†Subfamilia]].
"Unidentified" categories should be in two categories. One is the main category for the taxon, sorted by a asterisk (*), and one is the next highest rank in the "Unidentified" tree, sorted by the name of the taxon. A {{Unidentified header}} template should also be added. If it's a scientific name, capitalize it, otherwise use lowercase.
