Thasos

edit

Kouros of Thasos. A young man carrying a lamb. It is 3.5 meters high and dates back to around the year 600 BC. A young man carrying a ram. He is 3.5 metres tall and dates from around 600 BC. It belonged to the altar of Apollo. Perhaps he's a sacrificer, perhaps he represents Apollo holding a ram. The man is naked, in a priestly position, with his left leg in front without bending it. His hair is tied with a ribbon, forming a pattern that falls heavily. The hair is probably one of the last elements the sculptor worked on before leaving the statue unfinished after the marble cracked from the left ear towards the back of the head, which can still be seen today.
