AGPL covered media. edit

You raised some points of concern concerning AGPL compliance in a recent DR, perhaps if you had the time you would be willing to review everything below, Category:AGPL and Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:AGPL in more depth, because based on your strict reading of the terms, Commons would appear to have mmore than a few images where what you indicate is required may not be present. LIcensing issues.. edit

You claim to understand GNU licenses, perhaps you'd be able to comment on some files at English Wikipedia w:Category:GPL files. A few have had FFD requests made already. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:49, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • You don't do FFD's, but you do persue license compliance issues on Commons, hmm..

In any event all the AGPL tagged media I could find should now be listed in Category:Images containing portions under AGPL, Perhaps you could review them under your stricter reading of the relevant licenses. In some cases I'm not from the file information pages sure WHY the relevant content is AGPL vs CC-BY-SA or GFDL, etc, as it's not obvious 'program output' ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:07, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

N.B.: The reason for my unwillingness in this case is the same as @ShakespeareFan00's consideration for retirement. I myself have also considered leaving this place and spending my time better elsewhere just last week.

Not many people seem to greatly oppose or support my arguments, though I often have to argue against others in opposition whenever copyleft licenses are in question – mostly successfully, and I've agreed sooner or later with the majority of decisions I've participated in. I posted an essay-like discussion to Commons:Village pump about license terminations, which has been met so far with some unfamiliarity more than dubiousity.

I've found it much more enjoyable to edit on enwiki (versus Commons), and I'm not exactly sure why that is. Maybe it's easier to get along with editors because the policies and best practices are already in place. It's smooth, it doesn't get into my way. That inclines me to support ShakespeareFan00's proposed reform of certain processes on Commons. I've not many times found happiness from Commons: I've mostly contributed because I found a need to, not many times enjoying it. Proposing changes asks for effort and and seeking to change the long-standing "rules of the house" – which is no easy feat – to an unknown result. Self-expression for me is already difficult in life as it is.

I identified I've done ~8300 edits across WMF wikis since 2009 (with an inactivity period), of which ~3800 on Commons (~670 in total from this IP-address). Maybe it's also time for me to move on, if ShakespeareFan00 also decides to do so. Waiting on the results of few deletion requests and one undeletion request first, of course. 2001:2003:54FA:2751:0:0:0:1 09:40, 14 September 2017 (UTC); edited 09:42, 14 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
