Australian maps

Hallo Abigor,

could you please tell me what was wrong with the licences of

Grüße aus Deutschland -- Bill da Flute (talk) 22:48, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

When I deleted those images it didn't had any source information, license or author information.
If you want I can undelete it and you can fix it, or you upload it again..
Please give me a note if you want me to undelete them, I will tag them again you will have 7 day's to fix it.
Please tell me how I can help :-)
Mit den besten Wünschen aus den Niederlanden,
Huib talk 07:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
That's strange. Those maps were two years old and only three of some dozens of maps. They are "handmade" and not just zoomed copies of existing maps, so there should be no licence problems. Please restore the three, so I can find out what went wrong there. I don't want to make the same mistake again, because I want to to upload some more maps in the future. Dank je en groetjes -- Bill da Flute (talk) 17:11, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
The have been restored, please let me know if I can help :) Huib talk 19:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Are you sure, you restored all available versions? The upload is missing in the history. It ought to look like this. And in the section File history on the file page you can see the version of 20 May 2007 with the correct comment (info & license). Perhaps a system hiccup swallowing license and history?
I put in the info again. If you can't find the version and you think my name should be in the history, just delete the files once more and I will upload them again. Grüße -- Bill da Flute (talk) 23:44, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
I am sure I can't find your name in the history (I double checked everything). I deleted the files again so you can upload them again. Huib talk 04:35, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Abigor,

I just wanted to openly express my deep gratitude for having looked after my userpage on it.source. When you want to become a steward I'll be there to support. Anything I can do (researche or translations from Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek), just ask and I'll be here in a flash. - εΔω 21:27, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your message, and your welcome :-) Huib talk 21:04, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Abigor/Archives/2009!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Re: File:GPLogo.jpg

There must be some sort of misunderstanding. We own this logo and want to use it on our wikipedia page. I must have misunderstood and chose the wrong designation when uploading the file. I also received a note that logos are to be uploaded to the English main site, however, when I attempted that, I was directed to put it on the Commons.

Please point out the error so we can get this up and active.

When you say you have permission its not enough. The permission you have received should be forwarder to OTRS ( The people who volunteer in the OTRS team will try to verify the permission and when its al alright you get a respond back. When al is done you will receive a ticket number. When you request undeletion with that number a administrator will undelete the image.
Or you can skip this and do:
Special:Upload. Than you will upload it locally and that Wikipedia and can it only be used on that Wikipedia. If its for a other project please paste Special:Upload in the search field. For uploading on English Wikipedia you have to become auto confirmed first, that means you need to do 10 edits before you can upload.
When you still have any questions or need help please ask me.
Huib talk 18:33, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for clarifying this. I'll make sure we get everything figured out. We definitely want it available internationally since many of our users are in other countries.
I appreciate your help,

It's not logging in

And how should I change project to commons.--Yousaf465 (talk) 18:30, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

O I am not a expert with using AWB. You can probably ask Multichill, he can help you in a better way than me.. Huib talk 18:33, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
What about the Helpdesk.--Yousaf465 (talk) 18:39, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Overleg pagina

Hoi Abigor,

Huib talk 20:30, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

File:Ejaculation series.jpg

I noticed an undeletion request at Commons:Undeletion requests but also noted that there wasn't a closing reason Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ejaculation series.jpg so there is a risk that the image will be undeleted. Bidgee (talk) 15:05, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice, I left a reaction on the request. Huib talk 16:34, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I thought it would be best to let a fellow Admin know. :) Bidgee (talk) 04:16, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Huib talk 08:34, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Hans_Lindström.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS ( This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

Unless the permission information is given, the image may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Sorry, never mind. This was added automatically by a script because you are the last uploader of that file. If you don't have any permission information, just ignore this message, I also notified the original uploader. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 14:37, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your message, I don't know a thing about the copyright of that images. Sorry :) Huib talk 18:17, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Thnx. Cheers :) --Ex13 (talk) 16:16, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Abigor, I took the freedom to undelete this logo which was tagged and deleted by you. The uploader filed an undeletion request which was just closed by me. I think that {{PD-textlogo}} applies, i.e. I do not think that this logo is eligible for copyright. Please open a regular deletion request for it if you think that I am wrong. In addition, it may be very well asked whether this logo falls into COM:SCOPE but this is likewise better done in a DR. Cheers, AFBorchert (talk) 06:27, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Well whatever it is, the info conflicts. It says there's a copyright and it's public domain. Rocket000 (talk) 06:30, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
The uploader claimed indeed copyright but that alone does not make it eligible for copyright. I did not want to change his statement and I still think that it is best to resolve this through a regular deletion request. This would give the uploader the opportunity to either accept my opinion or to put this logo under a free license along with an OTRS confirmation. Likewise, the question regarding COM:SCOPE can be resolved. --AFBorchert (talk) 06:54, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me that you undeleted the file but I am affraid I will make a deletion request again because I don't think it's to simple for copyright. (It will take more than 20 minutes to recreate the image in Photoshop and there is a logo in the logo.) but I think when there is a discussion we should always use a dr. I hope you don't have a problem if I make a DR for that image. Huib talk 07:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Please do, I also think this particular representation is eligible for copyright. Someone making a copy from scratch could license it under a free license, because the essential features of the logo are ineligible, but the details of this exact instance can be protected. –Tryphon 08:12, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Please open a deletion request and I have absolutely no problem with that. I think that complex cases like this are best handled within a DR. This gives the opportunity to invite more opinions whether this is eligible for copyright or not (this is certainly a border case where you get easily different opinions but I do not think that the amount of time you'll need to recreate this image concerns us in this discussion, think about {{PD-art}} where a reproduction might require significant skill and time; we need to focus on originality). In addition, this gives some time for the uploader to put this under a free license and to send an OTRS message. Cheers, AFBorchert (talk) 08:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I know you don't mind, but my lazy side (around 99% of me) wanted to wait for Abigor to do it. Fortunately, 1% of me managed to create Commons:Deletion requests/File:GPLogo.jpg. –Tryphon 09:46, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Tryphon, I was waiting untill I was home (I can do a lot on my pda but when I use the deletion script my pda will crash.) I was kind of hoping somebody would create it before I had the time for it ;-) Huib talk 10:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I noticed you are using both MediaWiki:Editnotice-2-Abigor and User:Abigor/Editnotice, the latter works now, so do you think you can merge them and delete the one in the MediaWiki namespace? Thanks. Rocket000 (talk) 02:11, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Done Thanks for the notice, both editnotice where pointing in the wrong direction also ;-) Huib talk 07:06, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! (Now it makes sense. ;) Rocket000 (talk) 10:26, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Picture of the Year

Hi, would you do me a favour? We need to announce the opening of voting for the POTY final in various places. Would you mind placing a translation of this notice somewhere suitable on the nl Wikipedia, please? You may need to tweak the link by adding an extra "Commons:" so that it links back properly to the relevant page here. Many thanks. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:40, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

The finalists have been selected! Vote in the 2008 Commons Picture of the Year competition.
The final voting round to select the 2008 Picture of the Year is open now. Voting closes 23:59 UTC 30 April (Thursday).

Hey Abigor, I didn't know when you would be back online, so I took the liberty to place the template above in our "Kroeg". Hope that's fine with you? Cheers, Ciell (talk) 18:55, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 08:38, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Closing discussion

The discussion has just started. Commons:Deletion requests says: These are the deletion requests from the past week, and are eligible to be closed only if the decision to close is obvious (eg requests which should have been filed as speedy deletions). If not obvious, or if more discussion would be valuable, these should be left until at least seven days have elapsed. If it is a standard practice here ignore my message. If it is the way you do things why is the rush? --Obayd (talk) 20:22, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Please read my message there, the files have been deleted by a other administrator. I did only closed the DR because all files where deleted, I don't have a opinion about how it is handled I just closed a deletion reqeust that was done. Huib talk 20:33, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
No need to read it again: "since the images are already gone I will close the discussion". Have you read: "If not obvious, or if more discussion would be valuable, these should be left until at least seven days have elapsed"? --Obayd (talk) 20:40, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

You don't have to tell rules to me, I know the rules.. But discussing a deletion when the files are already deleted is useless.. Therefor I closed the discussion and asked you to go to COM:UNDEL Huib talk 20:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

OK [1]. --Obayd (talk) 21:05, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay its fine by me.. If you are just ignoring what I am saying I will stop answering. (Don't like to waste my time by repeating my self time after time). I didn't break any rules, I did the same as the drbot would have done.. Closing a deletion request with the result deleted.. I closed it by hand to point you to the undel page. Huib talk 21:17, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

You were the one who deleted this page right?

Could you please somehow make it a noindex thing. Because it still crawled and indexed by Google. Please erase this post as well after such since this page would then be indexed by Google. Please and thank you! Angdl (talk) 05:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

The deletion request is already been deleted so googlebot can't archive it any more. But google uses a cache so it can take some time before you can't vind it anymore. Huib talk 06:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Anyway, it will still be online because it's also here. Rocket000 (talk) 07:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
