Thank you for your post on my block!

Hi Abigor,I am not sure you watched my talk page while I was blocked, but I posted a message there for you and it is important for me that you see it, so I'd like to repeat it here, please:

May I please ask you in no way to blame yourself for my block? Adambro said about me: "He's already had plenty of time to change his behaviour and hasn't done..." and in this regard he's absolutely right. So your nominating my image for the deletion and my response to this have nothing to do with me being blocked. The story has started much earlier, and I would not like anybody else to loose more time than they already did on this. Best wishes.

Happy New Year.
--Mbz1 (talk) 06:44, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello Mbz1,
Sorry for my late reaction, thanks for your words. I the beginning I was afraid the deletion request started all the problems. Your words that it started before that make me feel better.
I still don't really like the way it went down, but it happend and it can not be changed. And just like Lar pointed out if you need help and you think you need some advice how to make your point you can ask me. I will be there to help when needed.
Best wishes for 2009! Abigor talk 20:17, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

The worse feeling of being blocked is, when you want to say something good to other person, but cannot do it because you're not allowed do edit their talk page. It is funny, sometimes I forgot about this and tried to post a message on somebody page, but Commons gladly reported back:"Your user name/IP address is blocked". Whatever... Once again my block was nobody fault, but my own. Thank you for kindly offering your help. I certainly would ask lot's questions before uploading another image :). Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:43, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I want to translate the labels of an image (this one), but I don't find how. I've seen that someone made the same in Hungarian, and it´s marked in the bottom of the file description "same with Hungarian labels", I want to do a Portuguese version. I'm finding trouble in editing the .svg file (which software shall I use?) and in how to upload it properly. Can you help me? Frajolex (talk) 19:11, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know a lot about .svg but when I create or edit a file from that format I use inkscape. It's kind of easy because you can remove the word easy and replace it with the word in your language. If you need to know more This user has more experience with svg files. Abigor talk 20:32, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Abigor,

would you care to reply regarding this file? Should we request more input?

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 11:14, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I didn't know at that time it was a free source. Otherwise I wouldn't have nominated it. I aspected that a administrator already closed it so I didn't respond any further.
I am sorry I placed a wrong deletion request on the image and wasted time from you, me and the admin that have to close it. But I am glad I learnd a free source also :) Abigor talk 21:12, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Geen probleem, grappig dat Lycaon het afgesloten heeft, we hadden even goed alles in het Nederlands kunnen doen. groetjes, --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 10:13, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Perhaps your message was in good faith but I am tired of having message branded at me for occasional mistakes I make. I found your "pay attention to copyright" frustrating given that I go out of my way to find free content, Most of my uploads are perfectly valid and nobody stops by to thank me but in really is disheartening to see that the minute I make an error people will gladly tell me about it. I am very surprised with that Cardinals images as the others taken by the same person are ot licensed as copyrighted. Dr. Blofeld (talk) 13:20, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

With this message I want to thank you for your good uploads. But please don't upload images with a all rights reserved license on Flickr. Commons only accept CC-BY and CC-BY-SA licensing. All other license are considered a copyvio.
Its very important that you check the license before you upload it. Copyvio can cost the Wikimedia Foundations and You a lot of money if the persons started a law trail. So therefor its very important to pay attention to copyright.
When you check the license correct you will not receive messages like that. But if you upload good images long enough you will be rewarded also.
If you need any help or have questions please ask me, I am willing to help.

One Question

Find this Flickr group called "Creative Commons-Free Pictures"

Can I use images of this group?.

Thanks, I hope your answer.

As far as I could see where all images from that group free. So all images could be used on Commons.
I think you have found a very good free image source. Good work!
See ya,
Abigor talk 10:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I again ...

Seeing your previous comment on the use of licenses, I found that most of the images are licensed CC-BY-NC-SA, "Wikipedia is not whether to accept such photos.

Your completely right. The images I checked where licensed cc-by-sa and cc-by, all other licensing are not compatible with Commons. But lets just say..... There is a lot of free stuff in that group.

Undeltion of file Luari1.jpg

I uploaded the file in question. I am the photographer and owner of the picture and I am a bit confused as to where to post my questions or check the picture status. Can you help me on that?

Miki Retter Mikiretter (talk) 05:17, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

In the discription you say that the image is the cover from a cd. Cd's, dvds, posters and books are all Fair use. You are saying you took the photo for the cover, but that is something we can not verify. You have to send a email to OTRS telling you are the author and have the rights to release the image. It's important that you give something how we can verify that you are the real author.
I know this procedure sound stupid but it is for your own safety. This is the only way we can check if you are the real author of the cd cover. Otherwise everbody can upload your cover and claim that the are the author. So with this step the rights can only be released by the real author.
Your update about the deletion request can be found Here. Feel free to give your opinion there also.

Undeltion of file Female_Urinating.jpg

For some reason you have selected this image for speedy detetion. I don't understand however why you think that an image of a woman urinating is out of scope for an article on urination.

Female urination is not well understood by men, this image nicely clarifies that the urine/urethra does not come out of the vagina but above it.

It is therefore educational and informative and entirely on topic.

Aether22 (talk) 11:41, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I still believe this image is out of scope, but I changed my speedy in a normal deletion request that can be found here. Your opinion there is appreciated.
I believe there are other ways or more nice images to show that the urine doesn't come out the vagina but above it.
The administrator will base his discussion on the input from the commons users. There is nothing more I can do.

Deletion of Beautiful Post and Beam Horse Barn.JPG

My apologies for not submitting the image properly the first time around; I'm still getting into the swing of things here. I took the image myself and have it posted on my website. I have sent in a modified version of the email template you linked to on my talk page to OTRS and added a OTRS pending tag to the image page. Let me know if there is something else I should do.

Thanks for your help, --Vermont.timber (talk) 15:50, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Apologies aren't needed. It's very nice to know that a image has the right permissions and can stay. I see that the permission has arrived and the No permission template is removed. There is nothing more you should do. You everything alright. Thank you very much for uploading such nice images.

Issues of file Luari1.jpg

I am a bit confused about all this permissions issues. I will try to summarize the subject and if it will get too confusing I will just upload another picture. So here it is: The picture I uploaded was made by me and we later used it for the cover of my wife's CD. This is not a scan of the cover but one of the original pictures used later for the CD cover. I am not sure what I should do with emailing OTRS telling them I took the picture.

If I just uploaded another picture that is not on a cover of any CD, will this be OK?

Miki Mikiretter (talk) 21:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

You have me confused also. With the first upload you where saying in the description: cover of her first album . A cd cover isn't just something we can accept if you say you are the author, therefor we need the permission and stuff.
If you want the picture on line on Commons I think it should be best to upload the original image on to Commons. I believe that the original image would be bigger than 170 * 170 pixels. And a original image should contain metadata. If you say than it is own work I would assume good faith and just let it pass (I can't speak for my other Wikimedians). This image you have uploaded is a cropt version of this image. So there is the problem.
If you upload the original image with the original height and width it should be no problems. For the image whe are talking about right now, we need permission send to OTRS. In that permission should be saying that you are the author that took the image, that you have the rights from the image and that you would give it under a free license. The email should give something that we could verify with the cd company or record label.
But please tell me, Why did you upload such small image in the first place? If it's your wife you should have lots and lots of images of her. It would be faster just to upload a other image. A image that isn't used as a CD cover.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 21:22, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Michael Crichton

Hi. Seems as you have been helpful so far I wondered if you could help me "officially". You see I've contacted Jon Chase, the Havard photographer who owns this image of Michael Crichton. I've been writing the article and requested that we use the image under Creative COmmons attribution. I have an email of confirmation. What shall I do? We are free to upload the image under this license but can you sort out the OTRS ticketing. Can I forward the email to you? Dr. Blofeld (talk) 20:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

If you forward the email to me, I will deal with the OTRS people. My email is Abigor(a)
But the OTRS part isn't so difficult. You can also forward the mail to and they will contact you when its all ready for Commons. I really don't mind doing it for you. So you can choose where you going to send it to :)
And Good work getting that image under a free license!!!

Thanks. I've forwarded the email so shouldn't be a problem. Dr. Blofeld (talk) 11:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Question on flickr & museum piece images

Dear Abigor, Thanks for marking that flickr image of a Dynasty 12 model boat which I uploaded. Three inquiries:

  • Your user page is strange. Its almost as if you are inviting others to vandalise your page. I thought a user's introductory page was private. On a more serious note, I see that when I want to upload a flickr image, it now says..."It is someone else's work from Flickr." Does this mean that I can't upload an image from my flickr account to Commons on a CF free license at all now?
  • A final important question: When people take images of museum objects in display cases--such as a dress a famous person once wore for a movie--there may be a small derivate image (say a music album image) in the background. This often happens for music stars. Does the presence of a small derivate image in a commons picture mean my image of the dress in a public museum in Canada (where FOP is allowed) must be deleted or can it be kept. I should note that the derivate work is not the primary object in my image...the dress is. What do you think? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:39, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
No, I am not asking to vandalize my userpage. But my userpage is licensed like all others here under de GFDL license and I really have no problem with people editting it. Good faith edits can just stay and Bad faith edits or vandalism will be reverted :).
If its your own work its not necessary to place a link to Flickr, you can just say own work on the source pad. But when you upload a image from your own Flickr and it is licensed correctly there would be no problem at all. Most people user Flickr for images the didn't create them selves, thats why the text is:It is someone else's work from Flickr. But uploading your own work that stand on Flickr should be no problem.
I think it depends on the situation. If the derivate image is small and in the background I see no problems. But this not something you can say for all image. I believe the decision about that is by the Flickr reviewer or the administrator who handles it. But normally when its small and not the main target of the picture it would be alright. Its almost impossible to make a photo without having other objects than the main target it in.
I hope I could help you with my answers.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 05:51, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Thank You for your reply. I was referring to this image by me in my local city's museum: File:Lisa Brokop 2.jpg of Ms. Brokop who is a local 'celebrity' in Surrey, Canada. There is a small derivate image on the right (an album image, I think) but my Commons picture is mostly focused on the dress she wore for a movie. No one has complained about the image at all on Commons and I have used it here: [1]

BTW: this image uploaded by Tasja in December 2008: File:Herschel Grynszpan nov 7 1938.jpg is an exact duplicate of this donated by the German government where the copyright is certainly free: File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1988-078-07, Herschel Feibel Grynszpan.jpg Herschel sparked the Nazi's Kristallnacht campaign in November 1938. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

About File:Lisa Brokop 2.jpg: I don't believe that little part of the image should be a problem. It's a very small part of the background of the images, not something I would complain about. If people start to complain about it we can easely place a blur over it, that why it can't be identify anymore. But I really don't believe this is a problem.

About the duplicate. I placed {{Duplicate}} on the file from the Bundesarchiv. The file will be deleted when the CheckUsage is working again. (There are some problems with the toolserver).

  • Thank You for your excellent answers Abigor. On this file which was deleted: File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1988-078-07, Herschel Feibel Grynszpan.jpg, I meant to say that this picture was not a problem since its copyright status is now certain unlike the first file. The German government donated it freely as part of the 100,000 pictures to WikiCommons. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

The permission you have received should be forwarder to OTRS ( The people who volunteer in the OTRS team will try to verify the permission and when its al alright you get a respond back. When al is done you will receive a ticket number. When you request undeletion with that number a administrator will undelete the image.

Kan je toevallig een linkje geven naar een artikel waar de afbeelding gebruikt word? Dan kan ik even kijken hoe het precies zit en waarom de Nederlandse Wikipedia het niet wilt accepteren.
Abigor talk 18:43, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Volgens mij weigert hij .svg, kan dat?

Racingweirdo (talk) 18:45, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Fair use warning

Hi Abigor, is this the work of a template? If so, which one (and is there a translated version of it)? Thanks a lot, Eusebius (talk) 21:07, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

The template is located in my user space (User:Abigor/fairuse). I believe it give enough and right information to people uploading Fair use material, and I receive a lot emails with thanks for the explanation and stuff. I am working on a Dutch translation but there are no translations yet (Feel free to translate it in french :) ).

I chose the section title on purpose :-P Do you plan to put it in the main template namespace? I miss that kind of message template on my left panel and I think it'd be a good idea to request more translations (yes, I'll take care of the French one). --Eusebius (talk) 21:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I Wasn't really thinking to place it in the template namespace, but if you are going to use it also it can be a good idea. I created the template to inform people instead of warning them and the more people using it the better it works. :) Abigor talk 21:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

You may want to know about {{No fair use}}, which is harmonized in style with the copyvionote-like message templates (it's more like a warning, though). --Eusebius (talk) 10:09, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes I know that template, I believe that template looks like a warning. I prefer to inform people first and after that we can always warn. So I made my template so that it doesn't look like a warning, but have all the needed information :O Abigor talk 20:27, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

It's you again, Abigor? My pictures are labelled re copyright. Please take your delete templates off my images. They are mine. It says uploaded by user, which is me. How clearer do we need to be?

Can you please tell me what images we are talking about? I have tagged two images for no source in December, but I see no notice for image I tagged lately. Please give me a link to the images maybe I can explain than why there are tagged for deletion.

Are we up to date, with nothing highlighted as a problem? Thanks,

Hello, I am really bad writing in english because i don't speak it, so i'll be brief. First of all, sorry by upload an image that doesn't belongs to me, i wanted to complete the file of Leon S kennedy by add a simple picture wich i thought it would looked nice. By the way, you could do that by your self, do you know what i mean?

thanks for the time.

If you want to upload a image to commons its important that you created the image yourself. When its own work there would be no problem.
Would you upload something that is not your own work you would try to get permission from the original author. When he should give his permission you need to send it to OTRS so that it can be verify.
But can you tell me for what article and on what project you want to use the image. Maybe I can help

A question about altering pics

Just wondering, can I take a wiki commons pic, alter it, and upload it as my own on wikipedia? What I want to do is take a pic of Ellesmere island, add a box indicating where Ward Hunt island is at the tip of Ellesmere, then put the new pic on Ward Hunt island wikipedia article. Thanks for any info you can give.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:44, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Your free to edit all content on Commons but there are a few things you have to think about.
When you edit a image you still have to attribute the old creator so if you take a image that I uploaded you should say by author: Abigor editted by: Anna Frodesiak or something like that.
The same is have to go with source, There you have to say something like editted version of [[imagename.jpg|imagename.jpg]].
The last part is the license: When you edit a image it should keep the license where it was already under.
Did my answer helped?

Question on your RfA

Dear Sir, I posted a question on your Rfa here. I hope you can try to make some sort of reply. The issue I mention is a BIG problem on Commons--old works and pictures by unknown authors on Commons. I just want to see how you would deal with the situation. Thank You sir...or madam, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

You can call me a sir. I have responded on my rfa but I believe there are policys that make it not posible to keep those images, its not just the administrator that have to choose. Abigor talk 00:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Personally I am sure that the image is more than 125 years old (made long before 1884) from its style. The real problem--as usual--started with the uploader who didn't indicate the book source for the image. But it doesn't matter here since there are many other Commons images of H. Fielding. I have supported your Adminship and thank you for your reply. I am a Star Trek fan and I am sure Mr. Spock would be proud of your logical and thoughful approach to the problem. Sorry than I was running a head of the facts, I was just hoping it was a good news email :( Abigor talk 20:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations on your succesful RfA. I don't know where you are from since you don't say in your userpage...but I assume it is the Netherlands. If I have a problem, I will contact you. I hope you will not be frustrated by the tasks of an Admin on Commons as some people are. There are always some disputes here--although they are less serious and less frequent--than those on Wikipedia. With kind Regards sir, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:16, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your trust. You are right I am from the Netherlands. Feel free to come to me with all your problems, I am here to serve and protect and I don't get frustrated very easy so I would be fine :) Abigor talk 05:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I do want to use this logo for Wikipedia, you say that I have to upload it locally. How can i do this?

Thanks. --Rundus (talk) 03:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

If it is for the English Wikipedia you can use Special:Upload. Than you will upload it locally and that Wikipedia and can it only be used on that Wikipedia. If its for a other project please paste Special:Upload in the search field. For uploading on English Wikipedia you have to become auto confirmed first, that means you need to do 10 edits before you can upload.
If you need help or have questions please come back to my talk page.

Hi, All files uploaded by User:Pikiwikisrael are part of meta:Wikimedia Israel free image collection project. Please leave them as they are for the time being. I will provide more technical details as soon as possible. Drork (talk) 10:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

The image is missing permission. That is very important because the image is now a Copyvio and can cause damage to Commons and the Wikimedia Foundation, or it can even cause a legal case against you or the foundation. I am very sorry but I can not just hang on till there is more information. Its important that you provide the permission and send it to otrs before you upload content to Wikimedia Commons. I am very sorry to tell but images without permission will be deleted after seven days.
It's good to know that the images are mend to use in a project on meta. But the images have to be with permission like written on COM:L.
I want to help in any way I can, but I am not breaking the rules.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 11:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
All images contributed to this project are either PD or under cc-by-2.5. The management of the project keeps all relevant documents. I have informed User:Bastique and other people at the Wikimedia Foundation about this project. The missing license is probably due to bugs in the uploading system (we are currently testing it). The license is cc-by=2.5 by default. Drork (talk) 17:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
How do you verify that all images are free when uploaded on your site? Because this is a very easy way to get copyvios and out of scope material on Commons. BTW you are not uploading under the license you say. Abigor talk 18:02, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

You were marked to remove a photo that I have permission to use, and did you not answered me my message in the discussion on that photo. I show you the message that I wrote and did you not answered me:

I have written permission from the author of this picture to show it in wikipedia, and only in wikipedia. I still don't understand what is each license and nobody helps me to understand it. Instead of removing the photo help me to get the correct data please. This is te permission; "Roberto, podes usarla para la nota, lo unico que te pido es que pongas mi credito: Pablo Puebla Palacios y que no la utilices para otro fin que no sea ese." I wait for the answer. --Robertoe (talk) 15:27, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Permission for only Wikipedia is not enough. Everybody should be allowed to change or use the images in personal and commercial ways. And a other very important thing : The permission you have received should be forwarded to so one of our volunteers can verify the permission. After its verified you will receive a email with a ticket number. When you place that number on the image everything will be oke. Abigor talk 18:01, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. --Robertoe (talk) 12:16, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Image:Radio MultiCult 2.0

I have the expressed permission - don't delete my files prematurely --Wikinaut (talk) 19:32, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Book covers, Cd covers, posters are all protected by copyrights. The only way to upload them on commons is to get permission from the original author or rights holder. That permission should be send to OTRS. When the receive the permission the will try to verify it and you will get a respond with a ticket number. When you place the ticket number on the image description page it will be fine.
Now I know its kind of hard to get the permission under a free license and most of the time you will not even get permission.
There is a other way, Some Wikis use a Fair use policy, Those project are listed here. On those project you can upload the image locally without any problems, and without copyvio. So please check of your project is listed there, and upload it locally or try to get permission.
But if you already have the permission please send it to OTRS so it can be verify, then I can undelete the image.

Abigor talk 19:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

OTRS sent today 20:01 UTC with request for undeletion of that image. --Wikinaut (talk) 20:18, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Oke. The people handling the OTRS will undelete is if everything is oke to go. Abigor talk 20:29, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Centre Court Wimbledon 1.jpg - delete

Hello, I´ve been informed on cs wiki by colleague, the Licence was right. The purpose of using trim version Centre Court Wimbledon (2).jpg is Portal Tennis. The original photo was recorded from Flickr, so I don´t see, what is a false? Thank you for answer. Best regard --Kacir (talk) 21:47, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I have just checked it again but the license on Flickr is all rights reserverd (here). The are two kind of license allowed on Commons:
  • CC-BY-
  • CC-BY-SA-
All other licensing is considered not free and there for copyvio. Since this image is All rights reserved I can not undelete it without the permission of the Flickr author.
Abigor talk 21:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
I was that who adviced Kacir. It was remixed file already existing and reviewed in Commons. Unfortunately Kacir did not upload it as a derivative from Commons content but derivative of work placed now in Flicker. Please check File:Centre_Court_Wimbledon_(2).jpg Miraceti (talk) 22:05, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Look that is good to know. Because the source link was a Flickr link I had to check the license there. The images is a crop from a Commons images that is already placed under a free license so there should be no link to flickr. :)
I will undelete the image and fix the source. Please note that it is very important to give a correct source, otherwise we keep getting this kind of deletions. The image will be undeleted in a minute or 10. Thanks for the update about the source. Abigor talk 22:08, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks to both of you. --Kacir (talk) 22:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Great! I am happy I adviced nothing stupid. Did anybody ever complained you act too slowly? Miraceti (talk) 22:13, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
I am a little bit of a addict so I can respond very fast. Its good we solved this so fast. Abigor talk 22:15, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you!

Yes, if you'd protect the user page, I'd appreciate it. As an admin at Wikipedia, I'm really susceptible to attacks of that nature. I appreciate the offer! Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:31, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I am new to wikipedia and wikimedia commons and still trying to figure things out. The photo GSMB_logo.jpg is not violating any copyright as it is not an official logo of the North Dakota State University Gold Star Marching Band. I am creating the page on behalf and permission from the band. I created the picture with permission from the band, and is purely a visual title for the page.

You say its the Band logo. So the band has the rights from the Image. It doesn't really make a difference, if you created the image your self and it had nothing to do with the band it would be out of scope. So it isn't going to stay on Commons. Abigor talk 14:32, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello Abigor, May I know, if is working with this photo Serena_Wimbledon_2008.jpga possible? I´d like to trim that and use in a new smaller version. Thank you. --Kacir (talk) 02:26, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Offcourse you can work with that photo, the photo is already on Commons as File:Serena Wimbledon 2008.jpg. It's important that you will not change the license when you are done and give File:Serena Wimbledon 2008.jpg as the source. You can work with all photos on Commons if you keep the author name, a source and don't change the license.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 06:01, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
In fact, I think you can change the license to whatever you like, there is no share-alike requirement for public domain. If the changes are just cropping or scaling, there is not enough originality to claim copyright on, but if you do some serious changes, you can copyright your changes with a license of your choice. --Tryphon (talk) 08:47, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I know but if you only crop or trim the image you can't change the license. I didn't want to make it more difficult by saying al that. But you are right. :) Abigor talk 09:19, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I was afraid of next Copy violations, because the last time I only trimmed the photo as well, and you have marked it as Copy viol. --Kacir (talk) 10:39, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes I did. But that was because you editted a image and pointed the source to Flickr, on Flickr the image was all right reserved and I couldn't know that you editted a Commons image. That was not your fault or the mine, that was a miscommunication. And was solved within a Hour. But feel free to crop and trim the image. And feel free to come here when you need help. Abigor talk 10:50, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Abigor as you can see I've made several very valuable flickr agreements over the last few days, your help with helping sort them would be grateful. I've been in contact with a flickr user named Alan Cordova. He has agreed to transfer his bank of images to the commons from wikipedia (including many valuable photos of Tajikistan etc). He has uploaded four so far. However he wants to known if somebody can assist him and use a bot to transfer them. He has a excellent bank of photos so if you could asisst him I;d be very grateful Dr. Blofeld (talk) 18:48, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't have much expirence with uploads. I gonna ask a user who can help you. I will ask if he can respond here.

OzPhotoWrap 200x200.jpg

I recently uploaded this file and it has been flagged for deletion. As I am the producer of the show and the owner of the logo, I would request that it be reinstated.

Thanks Shaun

For logos we need to verify the permission, this is for your own safety because everybody could say he is the producer and the owner of the logo. So you have to send a email to OTRS saying you are the owner of the logo and want to release it under a free license. Its important you give something to verify it with (Like sending the email with a mail adres from the producers office).
After you send the permission a volunteer will try to verify it, and get back to you when he is done. He will also undelete the image.
I know this sound stupid and is a lot of extra work but this is the only way we can check if the owner really want to give his image free, because under a free license everybody can use your logo for personal and commercial use.

Did you read Commons:Deletion requests/File:Atea.png before deleting? ZorroIII (talk) 21:58, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

No, I havent read that. I will start a new Deletion request because I don't agree with the opinion from the other administrator. Abigor talk 22:00, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
OK. I tend to agree with you on that it should be deleted but I won't take part in the debate as I work in the company. After it beeing kept I fixed a pixel error and uploaded the new version. ZorroIII (talk) 22:04, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, but your opinion is much appreciated in the Deletion request. But we will see what other people thinks. Sorry for my fast deletion, I didn't see the older deletion request. Abigor talk 22:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

File:Wood Ant Nest Closeup 5.jpg and File:Wood Ant Nest Closeup 6.jpg

Hi Abigor, you rejected the deletion request for those two pictures with in use. Both images are only used on user pages, not in the main namespace. Is this enough to be in use? Both images are unidentified and, well, unidentifyable too. And there are still enough images left of similar quality. If bad quality is a reason for deletion (which I'm not sure of), then why to keep those images? --Herzi Pinki (talk) 11:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

When I checked the image there was one in use on a article, that was the main reason to not delete them. But I believe bad quality or not identify are not reasons to delete. We are hosting free images here, people can choose for there own to use or not use the images. Abigor talk 11:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes I know, but it is not quite true. All images need to be categorized, if they are, they are part of some category which might be already linked to from some article in some WP and by that way implicitly used. How to avoid this? Not categorizing will create an Template:Unc remark, so it will not work in the overall process. We could categorize images of low quality to some extra Category:Low quality image and allow to filter by that (rather POVish proposal). --Herzi Pinki (talk) 13:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes I know but tagging for low quality isn't the best idea. We should get a lot of people mad with that. I don't really know a solution either. Abigor talk 16:02, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

File:RonzillaFavoriteThings.jpg - delete

This message is probably unnecessary, as this image is already scheduled for deletion. I just wanted to let you know that I agree with the decision. It was uploaded to Commons by mistake. It's fair use content, and it has since been uploaded locally to English Wikipedia. Please go ahead and delete the file on Commons. Shichikokuyama (talk) 17:14, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

I just noticed that there is a permission in the OTRS system, that means that the image don't have to be deleted. Abigor talk 17:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey I'm new to all this. I just created an account today to start updating some info on an artist's albums. I tried to upload the album art, and it said it was deleted. Why? I thought album art would be free to use anywhere.

No, Albumart is protected by copyright. If you want to place it under a free license you have to ask permission from the author. Can you tell me in what project you want to use the covers? If its form the English Wikipedia you should upload it locally. Abigor talk 18:08, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

CalebRMCL (talk) 18:23, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry but I don't know what you are saying. Abigor talk 18:31, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Lenny Murphy

Dear Friend, I'm quite new to Wiki and find the rules on images tricky (sorry!).

That image is indeed a scan of a pic. that's common on the Net and in books. Is that not allowed? Mr Murphy's photo has appeared in many many newspapers without the original owner ever being acknowledged. I believe this photo came from the police or prison authorities in N. Ireland. Where origin cannot be certified, can't it be used at all? Your advice would be appreciated. Regards, Billsmith60 (talk) 22:46, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

A scan from a image is not allowed even not if it has stand in a book or newspaper, books and newspapers usually rent the permission to use the image but it keeps copyrighted. A photo stays copyrighted until seventy years after the dead of the photographer and books or newspaper that should use the image without permission are having a copyright violation. If you want to use the image you should find the author and get permission or find the source and give proof the author is dead for more than seventy years, otherwise the image can not be uses.
