Thanks for your reminding. I take this photo in a lab in en:Sichuan University, Chengdu. For some reasons, I don't want to let others know the exact location I took the photo. At that time I just use my iPhone 6 to take this photo, so its resolution may not be very high.--Panzer VI-II (talk) 10:00, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

WSC2017 in France and PolandEdit

Hi, I have even forgotten that I have uploaded some photos to WSC. It's possible that I have sent them in France as well as in Poland. I was looking for a New Zealand that I didn't find. You can transfer them to Poland if you think that is better. Thank you and have a nice day! Tournasol7 (talk) 08:31, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok, so can you put them in the "rest of the world"? I don't know how, it's to difficult for me :) Tournasol7 (talk) 08:44, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Quasi omonimoEdit

--Ghedo (talk) 15:22, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Foto via Cappuccio a MilanoEdit

Ciao:)--Geoide (talk) 15:48, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Who is this?Edit

[1]?--Ailura (talk) 10:45, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Ailura a typo of the copy and paste. I copied by mistake an additional line of code and I have not revised the page yet since I have many other things to check. Specifically, Serbia and Czech Republic. I am also completing the international evaluation on some categories, and there is a mail asking you to revise again stuck on my mail browser that I am supposed to send but my time is limited. Even sending that would have not changed so much: Months ago I sent an email asking to use some type of layout, and after that another one asking to select additional finalists, and they were all basically ignored. But if you had replied to one of those, I would have had less tasks and therefore I would have done less mistakes or had more time to revise them. There is a balance in the world :D --Alexmar983 (talk) 11:24, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, i wasn't aware that you were expecting me to do anything. I used the template as much as possible given our jury result and you did not ping me directly. --Ailura (talk) 13:05, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
I have sent an email to the international organizers Ailura, probably around May. that one about the layout was before, but the one about the request to add more finalists was around May. I have also asked Ivo and Nicolas to inform directly themselves the national organizers they knew, I pinged and/or sent messages to people here on commons but after the 2nd of 3rd country organizer who did not reply, I stopped. Austria was refined very late because it was not so bad, at that time I simply stopped. At a certain point I started to fix things directly. That phase was when finally Brazil replied to me so I fixed quickly the last countries I never checked. it's a matter of time: the most important thing is a good selection, I have all the time after the end of the voting phase to revise again those pages. But the selection takes time to be done correctly, I have to send to one or two jurors an additional request. In any case, you can still change the additional finalists in the "set of images", "microscopic" and "non photographic" category if you want. The other two I have already processed with the main jury.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:14, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

--Pufui PcPifpef (talk) 12:36, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

Grazie :)--Matitao (talk) 13:51, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Re: giurato regionale toscano WLMEdit

Fammi sapere ;) --DnaX (talk) 15:39, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Ok thanks. I wrote a blog post for wikiedu.org earlier this year (I was on the US jury), and we'll probably repost/update whenever the international results are formally announced. — Rhododendrites talk |  17:50, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
User:Rhododendrites sure. Basically Brasil arrived very late and we started it was summer. it was much more complicated got all 10 international jurors to vote. in any case it's almost done but of course we will refine the ranking for the final prize. The astronomical images and the images about reserach in Antartica are probably a little bit overrated (that is if I show to other people in the fields), so there will be a final adjustement to get more diverse winner and runner ups. i am writing an email to finalize this idea with the jurors.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:54, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Multilingual captions beta testingEdit

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[2][3] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Known issues:

Thanks!

Category:Cultural heritage monuments in TuscanyEdit

Ciao!

A presto, --Epìdosis 14:38, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)Edit

Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...

Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 November or Thursday, 10 November 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:

  1. Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
  2. Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
  3. Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.

Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the IRC office hour on Thursday. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Keegan (WMF) you put "November " instead of "January". it's clear, but just FYI.--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:28, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Captions in JanuaryEdit

Ball girlEdit

Hi. She is behind the goal post. --E4024 (talk) 01:37, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

E4024 I saw that person but it wasn't very clear, IMHO. But if you say she is, fine. It's probably not a very useful categorization when the depicted target has a low quality, but it's subjective so not a big deal. Have a nice wiki.--Alexmar983 (talk) 01:43, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Category:Cristina Giachi or Category:Cristina Gachi ?Edit

Should categories be merged? DGtal (talk) 13:32, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

User:ديفيد_عادل_وهبة_خليل_2 created a wrong category. The vicemayor of Florence is Giachi. Gachi sounds a very rare surname in Italian. Maybe I wrote Gachi in some description and (s)he got confused, but the category created by me on February, 13th is the correct one.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:48, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Alexmar983, @DGtal: It makes no sense to add two categories on the same topic in the same file! You can empty and request deletion of the wrong category 2 (talk) 13:57, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
If this means that I left by mistake a red link somewhere is possible but I though i already removed them. It was inserted by mistake, never created, removed, the correct category was created, and the description states "Giachi". I mean, it was quite easy to see it was a typo.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:02, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
I was probably distracted by something, I remember I spent 15 minutes trying to find a decent third-party bibliometric ID for a wikidata item to connect to the category, and I couldn't find it, she has a publication on wikidata but no SCOPUS profile yet, it happens in her field. maybe I lost track there. But I do leave a lot of information in the files, enough to clearly spot the correct name. I mean, if I create a red category that is inserted, I click on the files, so I would have spot immediately that it was a typo. that's why i leave so many information in the first place. In any case do as you wish, if by tonight it is not solved I can fix it easily.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:21, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
@DGtal:   Done it took one second with cat-a-lot to remove it. To be honest, I though I did that already, maybe there was a connection problem that night. In any case User:ديفيد_عادل_وهبة_خليل_2 a left over red link is no big problem per se, I would have noticed myself reusing those files I suspect at a future event at the lab of professor Banci in few months.
If I might suggest, when you create categories from red links please look inside the files which will be included there at least once. You would have noticed, opening the file, that it was a typo. If you don't know a language, leave it there or ask. I am aware Commons has a huge backlog and everybody is trying to do their best... I hope structured data will help us to deal it with this more efficiently than now, but "fast-pace" editing is what gave us amount of files to organize, and mistake to correct in the first place so it is not going to be the solution. I feel more and more frustrated to spend hours to add parent categories, look for coordinates, create new categories, improving wikidata connection all manually to end up again in a chain of these events. Of course when you don't look for geoocordinates, information on line and so on you have much more time to notice your correction to a typo didn't occur as you though. It's funny that if I uploaded the same files with much less information so more time to spot that typo (even if perfectly visible just opening the file), it would have been better from this perspective. Something here on Commons is clearly not working at a systemic level, IMHO.
Now, I go to create the wikidata item of Giachi in any case even if the identifiers are not perfect.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:53, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
This might be her VIAF page, which connects to a few more identifiers. Just check if it is the same person. The chief work cited there is "Diritto e giurisprudenza in Roma antica". DGtal (talk) 07:33, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes DGtal it's her. Thanks. So when something is in the auto-completion of the "Search Terms:" search bar on VIAF but it's not found with a direct enter (if I type Cristina Giachi on VIAF, "no heading found for") it is still possible to find the VIAF ID. I have never learned how to do that.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:32, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
I usually get "no heading found for" when I forget to choose an option in "Select Field:", and that happens quite often. DGtal (talk) 12:04, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - development update, March 2019Edit

This text is also posted on the Structured Data hub talk page. You can reply there with questions, comments, or concerns.

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Thanks, let me know if you have questions about these plans. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - early depicts testingEdit

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Thanks in advance for trying it out, you'll be hearing more from me next week. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

WikiScience competition 2019Edit

Hello , Alex How can I be a jury for my country. Goddyliz (talk) 11:34, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Goddyliz hi! The competition is in November. So far, i doubt any African subsaharian country will have a national jury, but in principle it is possible. If your country does not have an involved chapter or UG you will be asked to be a second-level international juror. In practice, you will be listed in this page and you will evaluate all the images coming from the "rest of the world". Do you like the idea? Last year I could only find an archeologist from Kenya and a biologist who has south African citizenship to represent Africa, we only had some images from Kenya if I remember correctly. I am glad to see new faces around.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:09, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Please can you explain further because my country has UG and also steps to be a juror if possible? Goddyliz (talk) 14:28, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Goddyliz your country did not ask to an organizing country so far (preminary requestes come from Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Australia, Russia...), but it could. If it does not, the upload will be still possible, there is just no national prize and no national jury and what is uploaded goes directly to a general category where it is competing for the international prizes. You can always ask your local chapter to be part of WSC2019 with a full national competition, but beware that the international team has not enough manpower to fill any gaps, we had complicated situations of countries who left at the middle of the process last edition, so be sure your country is really motivated. In any case you can be a second-level juror with no problem.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:46, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
