your mass deletion requests

Hi Bomazi, it would reduce unnecessary work for admin when instead of putting your speedy-message directly onto the image you would use the QuickDelete-links in the toolbox (shown left-hand when on image pages), because then a deletion warning is put automatically on the uploaders talkpage. Otherwise, as you didn't notify the uploaders, we have to do this manually for each file, which means a lot of additional work. Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 18:43, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

GOCO

The issue seems to be really interesting. Sandia seems to be a GOCO (see this). So, the question is, is a GOCO a US government agency? According to the link I've provided the government owned the laboratory site, the buildings, and the equipment; the University provided the employees and managers (in the Sandia case, "University" must be replaced by "Lockheed Martin"). So, it seems clear that Sandia (and I assume the rest of GOCO facilities are NOT federal agencies. I think that the best way to proceed is to discuss it in the appropriate place (I don't know where yet), but I'll take care of it. You'd better not go on nominating images from GOCO facilities (that is, when the discussion clarifies the issue, all the images will be removed or kept). I'll keep you informed. Thanks for finding a replacement image. However, per COM:DONTOVERWRITE, similar images of the same subject should be uploaded under new names. I have therefore reverted File:SLAC tunnel.jpg to the previous pic and moved the new one to File:SLAC tunnel 2.jpg. Please avoid overwriting in the future. Thanks. Re: Super Guppy

Please see Category:Aircraft by registration for two points. For registration changes, the new reg category should be the parent of the old reg category (I admit I had that reversed, but have fixed it). Also, if an aircraft is known by a specific name, that name can be a subcategory of the registration, even if the reg cat is otherwise empty. This aircraft is always referred to as the NASA Super Guppy. I added on the Turbine part so it was more apparent that this aircraft was different from the original Super Guppy, but would have no objection to the Turbine being removed if it's felt to be an issue. I do understand why you made the changes you did, but please understand also that I created the current structure very intentionally and according to the guidelines. — Huntster (t @ c) 22:29, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Bomazi,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

Hi Bomazi. You were the original uploader for File:X-29 in Flight.jpg, and I'm wondering whether you see a need for it to even exist since the colors (even inverted) are rather wonky, it isn't in use, and a proper version of the image exists at File:X-29 in Flight - GPN-2002-000193.jpg. Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Hi there. You made this edit to a photo you uploaded (File:HD.4F.005 (11873156176).jpg), changing the category to one specifically about the bombing of Nagasaki. From the original source here I can't see any indication as to whether this is Nagasaki or Hiroshima. Do you have some evidence that this is Nagasaki? The Flickr album from the US Department of Energy is here, but that only identifies the first three photos after the map (Nagasaki atom bomb cloud, and two Hiroshima photos). The other 10 photos there are not identified as to whether they are Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Are you able to identify the locations of any of them, including the one you uploaded? Have just noticed that another user made a similar set of edits to another DoE picture here. It was part of a series of 32 edits made on 31 March 2015, putting lots of DoE images in specific Nagasaki categories. Maybe the user knows the area? Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning.
