Categories added at upload not being caught

I'm careful to add at least one category if I'm aware of it when entering the description uploading files with the wizard. For some reason, categories added at this time are not being noticed by the bot. - Smerdis of Tlön (talk) 15:50, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Is this related to https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28850 ? Multichill (talk) 15:53, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
This could be. I also manually add categories along with the description text while uploading, to make sure. The files then appear in their categories but the bot still tags them. - Smerdis of Tlön (talk) 15:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
The bug describes the behaviour when categories are not explicitly added (and forgotten by the tool). This seems not to be the case here. --Foroa (talk) 18:43, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
The bot disagrees with the Wikimedia software on the question of category validity. Wikimedia accepts, and the bot rejects, a category that is contained in the description field. My own preference is for Wikimedia's more tolerant attitude, but anyway they ought to be made to agree rather than try to make all our uploaders understand first how to placate the upload process and later how to placate the bot. Jim.henderson (talk) 01:16, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
They also disagree in recognition of redcats. When we start typing a catname, the upload wizard suggests a number of possible categories. In my experience the majority are ones that have not been created, and if we choose one of those the bot later labels the file as uncategorized. In this case the less tolerant attitude of the bot is the correct one, and the upload wizard should be changed so it will only offer categories that actually exist. leave me alone

please, leave me alone Tinynanorobots (talk) 18:52, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

I have silenced the bot on your talk page. In the FAQ would have been the solution: User:CategorizationBot#How_do_I_stop_CategorizationBot_from_leaving_me_notes_about_uncategorized_files.3F.
Please try to add Categories if possible to your files - otherwise they are not findable good. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:48, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Categorization issue

Is there a way that we could keep the bot from mass-adding wrong categories (example of category removal)? Thanks Kevin Rutherford (talk) 23:46, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Luhačovice - where is a problem?

Hello,

where is a problem with category at picture Luhačovice - pramen Svatého Josefa.jpg and Luhačovice - Jurkovičův dům.jpg?--Jan Polák (talk) 14:05, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

They simply had no valid topic categories at upload time. --Foroa (talk) 15:27, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for the information. I have add yet categories manually to my uploads. Bye. Fugi-bis (talk) 19:59, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Mistagged files

The bot mistagged File:Cambridge, MA Green Map Legend.png and File:Choropleth-density.svg as being uncategorized. --Belg4mit (talk) 20:49, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Categorizing images

I did not want to add categories, mainly the level of my English is really bad, so there is no way to add a category in English Urga (talk) 14:17, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

What is the problem?

There are pictures belong to Therion software. It is software package for creating maps, models, etc. of caves. So what is the problem with categories: Category:Geology softwareCategory:Cave surveying ?

This is a talkpage of a bot
You added a non-existing category, that's why the catbot came back. --Denniss (talk)

Why did the bot remove a category and add none?

Seems counter-productive: [1] -- AnonMoos (talk) 22:57, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

From Elenaf

Hello, I saw your message and I saw that I didn't categorize two images or three but can you help me? Can you explain me how to categorize them once they've been uploaded? I don't know how to do it. Thanx a lot,--Elenaf (talk) 12:54, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

RE: Why did CategorizationBot notify me of already categorized images?

Well, it did for Prince's Wharf, Bristol - geograph.org.uk - 2595104.jpg, although the reason is likely to be errors in my markup during the upload! It looks as if I'd probably pasted the full [[Category:]] text, instead of just the name of the category. -- Trevj (talk) 11:32, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Categorization of Image:Esperanto-french-english-flag.jpg

I was recategorize my picture. The new category is: Flags. Sincerely,Eofren (Discuter Diskuti Discuss) 22:46, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Please, somebody, kill that stupid robot!

First, it uncategorized my uploaded images.

Then it complains about pictures needed to be categorized.

Please, don’t send me this scam any more! --Tõsine (talk) 04:32, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Tõsine, I have done so now. But could you please tell me a example image where the bot "uncategorized" a image? I could not find an example in your last three uploads. If you do not know the page, help on categories is at Commons:Categories. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 11:48, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Because the bot uncategorized my first uploaded pictures, I added reply comment to my discussion page (under bot's remarks, User_talk:Tõsine 20:25, 10 December 2011 (UTC)). All my pictures that were uploaded before that comment, were initially provided with several categories, but this bot removed all. Then I decided not to waste my time for categories any more. Maybe the problem was, that my pictures had Estonian categories.

Bot notification on image already in category

Apparently in this edit your bot is missing the fact that the image was already categorized (in Category:Panorpa at the time. And yes, I did read the FAQ and no, your statement there doesn't hold true. Check the timestamps in the file history if you don't believe me! :o) Pudding4brains (talk) 13:06, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Page contained syntax errors (with [[Category:[[Category:...), that probably caused it. Multichill (talk) 15:40, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
P.S. Here's another one - same thing: Panorpa germanica
At the time the bot came along Category:Panorpa germanica didn't exist. Multichill (talk) 15:40, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, you're right in both cases, so sorry about the second note. Anyway, the way Mediawiki handles the "syntax error" in the page, the categorization is recognized and displayed properly (plus some garbage text not influencing categorization), so the bot and Mediawiki have different concepts of what constitutes a valid categorization. Here I think Mediawiki is right and you may want to change the bot to handle such surplus half codes properly (= same as Mediawiki). As your bot had added the template to the same page again, I've now removed the surplus code from the page (and the template, again). Cheers, Pudding4brains (talk) 16:12, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Wizzard?

Hello The Bot told be to use the wizzard – exactly what I did. I choosed three categories, saved and went away. Today I discovered, that the categories, the wizzard proposed are red!

New Categorie

I gave all my new pictures the new Categorie "Public Art in Langenhagen" for the special gallery. But I can`t create this Categorie? Please help. Thanks

Categorization and renaming file

I would like to know if the only category names accepted have to be in english. Also, how do I rename a file that has a typo? This one: Anibalñ Fernandez se opone al Canon Digital en Argenitna.ogg should actually be Anibal Fernandez se opone al Canon Digital en Argentina.ogg
