Traslados edit

DonSpencer1 (talk) 23:18, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Error in Wikidata" edit

Can someone point me to or perhaps explain how to fix issues arising from "Error in Wikidata". In particular at Ovis aries. DonSpencer1 (talk) 03:41, 5 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think the problem is that the VN template used by the Commons gallery is intended to be linked with a species item on Wikidata, but the gallery has been linked with a common name item instead. It should be linked with Ovis aries (Q29350771), not sheep (Q7368). Ghouston (talk) 06:45, 5 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

How add a file to Wikidata edit

Hi DonSpencer1, I asked a moderator how I could add a file to Wikidata but he doesn't know. I'm no stranger to Wikidata and I'm here on Commons for 11 years (with multiple account), but I don't understand this one: It is not possible (as far as I can see) to add this picture to Wikidata. In the Category there is only a possibility to upload a file. Is there a possibility to do it with a sort of tag to Wikidata, like I see often in the 'description' (when you save a file)? I hope you can help. Greetz, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 15:11, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay! The only thing I can think of would be the category upload but that doesn't seem like thats what you're looking for exactly.... I'll do some digging to find a solution. Best, Don Spencertalk-to-me 17:40, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Lex column Financial Times.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Lex column Financial Times.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hello DonSpencer1, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Financial Times Front Page.jpg

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yours sincerely, - FitIndia Talk 14:55, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

File:The Economist Indicators.jpg edit

File:The Economist Indicators.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:The Economist Article.jpg edit

File:The Economist Article.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: I see no reason to think this is the uploader's own work. Without a date, it's not clear that this is pre-1927 but it has a single use at en:The_Economist#Editorial_anonymity which seems to be a fairuse claim, albeit an arguable one. Either way, it doesn't seem like it belongs here.
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
