Commons talk:Picture of the day/Poll edit

Hey, sorry I had to screw around with your vote, I just moved the poll to a separate page. Thought I would try and do it before anyone else voted - didn't quite make it. oops. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 07:43, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Thanks for the comments. I have realigned buildings to better match the vertical—to my eye this gives the river surface a slight tilt. See what you think. —JeremyA 15:23, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've just corrected a small math mistake of yours. The last image in CR has 1 promotion and 1 decline votes. It should stay. Alvesgaspar 13:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

What I wanted to show edit

Hi Gnangarra, thanks for your reviews at QIC. I agree with you that you can't see the entire tower in this picture. You could in images like this. What I tried to show is the world passing around the old tower. The people in the old style boat representing one time period and the train representing another. Static tower in a dynamic surrounding. Too bad the picture did not speak for itself. --Ikiwaner 13:36, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposal: Picture of the Year and Picture of the Month contests edit

I have posted a new proposal on Commons talk:Featured picture candidates regarding the creation of FP-related contests and would like your feedback on the idea. This message is being sent to some of the regular contributors to Commons:Featured picture candidates. Alvesgaspar 16:10, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

POTY election implementation edit

Some help in needed to organize the POTY election. Please check the conclusions of the discussion in Commons talk:Featured picture candidates. What do you think of doing the election in the period 15-31 January? - Alvesgaspar 14:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the model we are thinking to implement there is no nomination period, all FP are automatically nominated (see Commons:Picture of the Year/2006). But there is also the possibility (please check the discussion in Commons talk:Picture of the Year/2006) of having two election phases: the first to chose the 10 best pictures, the second to elect the winner(s). Maybe this is the best model. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome in the talk page. Alvesgaspar 12:44, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

how do you make a custom licence like yours, I want pretty much the same as you have but in my name, would that be possible? Yungur 01:38, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

POTY 2006 - sorted gallery edit

  • Thank you for your words and support, I was touched. But how can I come back? First, I was already accused of manipulative behaviour [1] (maybe I want to come back in triumph?...). Second, though there seems to be now a clear consensus towards facilitating the access to a sorted list of pictures (see here), nothing has really changed: there is one user giving orders and the others complaining ...but obeying. I'm afraid there only one way to get things straight, but that is unlikely to happen... Cheers, Alvesgaspar 13:36, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Gnangarra, first gratulation for your excellent photos. The photo of Diuris longifolia I tried to make it something lighter. If this is not pleased to you, revert please the original photo. By the way: Do you have further pictures of (identified??) natural orchids? Greetings Orchi 00:29, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

QICbot for consensual review? edit

Have you got any comments about my proposal for consensual review revamp[2] to assist QICbot use for Consensual Review decisions. --Tony Wills 22:47, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

What´s the use of this revert edit

The Pictures Image:Fresian 3 gnangarra.jpg, Image:Fresian 2 gnangarra.jpg‎ and Image:Fresian 1 gnangarra.jpg‎ schow absolutely nothing which has to do with dairy - okay - the Friesian Hostein Cow is the main Dairy breed, but it is not the only breed mainly bred for milk. Like this it may be an idea to categoryce the breed Category:Holstein (Its not the land it's the cattle breed and the cows are categoriced there) in dairy but not a single cow on a pasture. Kersti 20:11, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree that it is entirely appropriate to put dairy cows under dairy farming. Or you could put the whole breed as a subcategory, or have a subcategory called Dairy cows containing either individual dairy cows or dairy-cow breed categories. --Tony Wills 22:27, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I dont mind how they are categorise, its was the removal of category without any explanation that I reverted, I agree the breed should be a subcat of dairy farming(better way to cat the images), I'll fix Gnangarra 02:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think there are about 50 dairy breeds (see Cattle breeds), we have at least one photo of, most of which are used and bred for meat too. (There are always male calves.) I am not shure, what to do - somehow I would seek the dairy cow in dairy and not the other way round, if I primaryly seek pictures about dairy, but if I primaryly seek cattle I would seek dairy in Cattle. Kersti 21:10, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Holsteins are primarily bred for dairy as they have the highest volumes of milk production, are the most common breed of cattle used in the commercial dairy industry, especially in the US and Australia. Fresians have similar milk producing properties are more common in European farms, In this case both these breeds should be in dairy. Gnangarra 23:22, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Create a category Category:Dairy_cattle add all cattle breed categories that are used on dairy farms as subcategories. Make Category:Dairy_cattle a sub-category of Category:Dairy farming. Make Category:Dairy_cattle a sub-category of Category:Cattle and remove Category:Dairy Farming from Category:Cattle. Simple :-) --Tony Wills 00:31, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh it's simple - I linked the interwikis so that you needn't know all the names of the dairy cattle breeds by heart - but it is a lot of work. And I won't do it. But maybe it is a better Idea to write: For Cows check Cattle breeds. And than mention the goats in the same place. Kersti 03:25, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Meet our photographers edit

Hey Gnangarra, kudos to you, that's such exciting news! :) I guess they sorted out some terms with you rather than using the free license?

If we do make a general 'our work in use' page, it would kind of cool if we could link to some evidence of the work in use...will you feel comfortable revealing the product later or not?

Western Australia edit

Hey Gnangarra, looks like a good outline. (Obviously Perth and other places might do with a few pics sooner or later. :)) Also feel free to make the headings links to other galleries, even if they don't exist yet. A broad topic like a state can be a "teaser"-lead into other galleries, like the cities, parks and locations etc. A "Culture" section might be cool too. (Bands or something?) Dunno. You might also get some ideas from the talk of COM:FG (can't remember if you took part in that discussion or not...) cheers --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 13:51, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Western Australia edit

Why is everyone shouting on your talk page? :-)

Yep, it's coming along nicely. Of course it is messy or missing in places, but that's to be expected. I think this is a case for "if you build it, they will come".

When I get around to it I'll put together some pictures that capture the range of vegetation - desert, spinifex country, mulga scrub, jarrah forest, banksia woodland, karri forest, heath, wheatbelt, etc.

Hesperian 13:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. It just occured to me it needs a good satellite image of the whole state. Hesperian 13:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

WACA postcard edit

Good eh! I think that Gloucester Park opened in abt 1929. I also vaguely recall seeing a similar photo in the WACA museum - if you get a chance, drop in and have a look, its excellent and free. I didn't know that RR Jewell lived on the hill there. Moondyne 15:13, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
