Category:Theodore_Russell_Davis

Theodore Russell Davis has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Wrong replaces

Hi Jarek, please have a look at this replacement: remove or fix interwiki links using AWB. This is wrong, I have to revert now. Maybe a regex is too hard? Raymond 09:25, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Raymond, You are right In this case it was wrong although it is exactly what I intended for the Regex to do. I was reparying files that have {{User:Example}} instead of [[User:Example]] in the author field or other places and then they transclude the whole user page with interlanguage links. This file was selected because it has interlanguage link to en:Muschelkalk, but I forgot about transcluding user subpages. I fixed the interlanguage link problem.--Jarekt (talk) 01:44, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi Jarek, thanks for the explenation and repair. Raymond 06:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Animated gif category

Hi:

The bot has added Category:Animated GIF files to a few meteorological GIF loops. I removed it and added the Animated GIF category to the Category:Meteorological animations instead as those loops are in fact into this directory or sub-categories.

Pierre cb (talk) 16:04, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Pierre cb, That task was done as a part of Commons:Bots/Work_requests#Categorization_of_Animated_GIFs request I believe Category:Animated GIF files was assumed to be a "flat" category. If there is not how it is used than there are many more overcategorizations. --Jarekt (talk) 18:03, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Excuse-me but I don't quite understand your last sentence. If you mean that each individual animated GIF files has to be categorized with Category:Animated GIF files, why is there sub-categories already in Category:Animated GIF files? Anyway, if you insist to tag each GIF loops with that category, you just have to use "cat-a-lot" to add it on each loops in Category:Meteorological animations and its sub-directories. Pierre cb (talk) 18:37, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Pierre cb, I do not insist on anything, the request was to categorize all GIF files into Category:Animated GIF files and I did not noticed that that category had subcategories, many of which are not restricted to animated GIF files. They should be subcategories of Category:Animations not Category:Animated GIF files. For example Category:Meteorological animations have animations in other formats like OGG. So this will require some clean up. My last sentence was an observation that all the GIF files in the subcategories are now overcategorized, which I should fix. Thanks for pointing it out to me. --Jarekt (talk) 18:58, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, to have interfered with your work. I did not understand what you were working on, the reason was not indicated by your bot (a problem with using mass recategorization). Do you want me to add Category:Animated GIF files to all GIF loops in Category:Meteorological animations and remove it from that category? Pierre cb (talk) 19:22, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes that would be the best course. You can do it or I can. And all other subcategories will need to be looked at. I will also start discussion at Category talk:Animated GIF files about the best course of action. --Jarekt (talk) 20:06, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Done for Category:Meteorological animations and sub-directories. Pierre cb (talk) 00:02, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Wikidata

This are my first edits to this topic on wikidata. When and came the Bot to insert the dates to this person dates ? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Creator:Sri_Chinmoy Richard Reinhardt (talk) 10:17, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Richard, I do not think I know what you mean. Sometimes my bot adds fields to Creator templates and in the future I hope to rewrite {{Creator}} template to pull info from wikidata, but I do not know of plans for adding dates to Creator:Sri_Chinmoy by bot. --Jarekt (talk) 04:05, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
