Babí a v kat.

--Harold (talk) 12:36, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in KürzeEdit

Hallo JiriMatejicek,

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 - Wiki4Alps editionEdit

  WLM CH (Deutsch)

Dear participants to the WLM CH contest 2013,

The 2014 edition of the Wiki Loves Monuments contest began Monday 8th September.

This year the contest specifically focuses on the Alps. The previous editions enabled to collect thousands of pictures related to Swiss monuments. Thanks to you, Wikimedia Commons has a picture for many monuments but we realised that the ones located in the Alps were under represented.

Wikimedia CH organises several Wikiexpeditions during the contest to go and take pictures of monuments for which we have little content in Commons. By participating to those Wikiexpeditions you will have the opportunity to see the drone of the association in action. For more information, check out the link Commons:Wiki4Involvement.

Remember that to participate, the pictures may have been taken at any point in time, not only during the present time of the contest.

Have you already thought of searching in family archives? Maybe you have treasures such as pictures dated from the 50's! Hundreds of slides to scan? Do contact us, we can help!

You will find the contest's website http://wiki4alps.ch necessary information there or you may write to us using the following address: info@wikimedia.ch.

With our warmest regards, The organising committee

Gentile partecipante a Wiki Loves Monuments CH 2013

Wiki Loves Monuments Spain 2016 is coming!

Dear JiriMatejicek,

As every year, Wiki Loves Monuments in Spain, an international photographic contest about cultural heritage in the Spanish territory, will start on next September 1st. On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia España (WM-ES), and as a participant in former editions of the event, or in other photographic contests organized by WM-ES, we'd like to encourage you to participate in the 2016 edition. We do know that you've been keen on contributing your work to the free knowledge in the past and therefore believe that you'll be glad to help us again.

We want to inform you about a substantial change in the rules of the contest: this year only images of monuments or municipalities without previous photograph in Wikimedia Commons are accepted. To facilitate hunting monuments and municipalities without a free image, we have prepared a set of specific lists, which can be checked in the contest websites: wikilov.es/monuments or wikilm.es

If you have comments, questions or suggestions about the contest, they are more than welcome. You can leave them here.

We look forward to your free images!

Sincerely,

The team of Wiki Loves Monuments edition in Spain

Hallo JiriMatejicek!

Category:Khafr, SemiromEdit

hi. Thank you for creating the category of Khafr.

File:Shimen Dam 石門大壩 - panoramio.jpgEdit

Look at your edits. What are you doing?--Kai3952 (talk) 09:43, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the correction. In the recent past, I have put some 30000 uncategorized images in proper categories. Within this number, mistakes can occur... JiriMatejicek (talk) 09:53, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

No, what I'm asking is: When you see the file name is "Shimen Dam", why you deliberately put it in "Shimen District, New Taipei" category? Or is it because their name both has "Shimen"?--Kai3952 (talk) 04:43, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
I don't do this intentionally. I've seen a lot of files categorized incorrectly based on single keyword. I might have accidentally clicked on an adjacent line when choosing the category. You wrote 'edits', but mentioned one case. If there are more that still need fixing, let me know. Otherwise, let's close this. JiriMatejicek (talk) 09:15, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
Please take a look at File:Shimen Dam 石門大壩 - panoramio.jpg, and it clearly shows "Shimen Dam". In fact, Shimen District does not have any dam nor reservoir. I still don't understand why you put it in "Shimen District, New Taipei" category. If you don't know what category it should be put in, you can ask for help at COM:HD. I hope you don't do the same in the future.--Kai3952 (talk) 09:15, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Grazie, Nemo 16:06, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Prague sitesEdit

Hello! Thanks for your recent reply on the hotel building. I'm also curious, I saw these sites during my visit to Prague but noticed there are no Wikipedia articles:

If you think any may be notable enough for an article, or have any leads on sourcing, I'd be interested. Also, I posted a note here seeking feedback on how some Prague sites are organized by geography. I feel comfortable about the accuracy, but if you notice any problems, please let me know. Either way, keep up the great work! -Another Believer (talk) 17:48, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello. I am glad that someone is so interested in my hometown.
1. As for the above list, I think that for single statues or wells (except for the really famous ones) it would be difficult/barely worthy to start their own wikipages. Although I haven't done a thorough search, I guess you'd get few lines of info on the net at most. Some is already in the category, such as Category:Fontána s hrajícími si chlapci (Petřín) or Category:Dancing Fountain (Senovážné náměstí); there's a brief info on Il Commendatore on Anna Chromy's page cs:Anna Chromy. I thought I'd find a bit more on the Water well at Malé náměstí, but unfortunately, several of the sources dealt with objects of the same name in different cities. I guess that for richer info, one would have to dig into old-fashioned paper sources, for which I really don't have time. An alternative would be to start wikidata items for them - there you can enter the basic info (in a pre-defined structure), such as year of creation, author, style, coordinates, etc. See e.g. this item I've recently created: [3] All cultural monuments in CZ already have their Wikidata items.
2. As for the list of Prague sites you posted on SJu's page, I'm not sure what is its purpose. Is it just a working document where you keep track of pages you've categorized, of is it used (or intended to use) in some wikipages? For example, Palladium itself is correctly listed in New Town, while in your list it's still under Prague. How do you decide which page gets on this list? I believe not all English wikipages are in it. Smaller objects like statues would be easy to assign to a specific district, but I'd like to know what for.
Cheers, JiriMatejicek (talk) 19:31, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Your comments are tremendously helpful. For the list of sites, I was just trying to make sure they were included in the correct neighborhood/district categories. Some of the articles I created myself after visiting Prague, others existed already. Since Palladium is listed as New Town, I believe the list of sites is correctly categorized and I appreciate your assistance confirming. -Another Believer (talk) 17:06, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
I haven't checked the entire list, since I don't know what exactly it means. JiriMatejicek (talk) 18:28, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, but no worries, I'm just trying to sort sites by geography, and wanted to make sure those articles were organized properly. All good. Happy editing! -Another Believer (talk) 19:11, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Inspired by some of the items on your list, I have created a new category https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:%C5%BDi%C5%BEkov and populated it with English wikipages with coordinates, found using Wikishootme: https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikishootme/#lat=50.08373225700292&lng=14.455003738403322&zoom=15&layers=wikipedia, and using the boundaries here: https://mapy.cz/zakladni?x=14.4698792&y=50.0867712&z=14&l=0&source=ward&id=14971. Feel free to do the same for other districts. There might be some risks, though - this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Finance_and_Administration had wrong coordinates (now corrected and not included in Zizkov); this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czech_College is included, but may no longer exist (as the website is dead). Thanks! -Another Believer (talk) 01:12, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

Place des Arts vs. Place-des-Arts (Montreal Metro)Edit

Hi. Just a note that file moves like this were in error. These illuminated murals are in the lobby and box office area of the Place des Arts performing arts centre. They are not in the metro station of the same name, which is actually some distance away and underground. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:42, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

@Shawn in Montreal: Hello, thanks for the clarification and correction and sorry for my mistake. I'm not a local, I guess I took lead from some file description or filename. Please check the category, I think there are some more files with the same issue. JiriMatejicek (talk) 06:25, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
I have checked the category and there are more files with the same issue -- solely because of your edits, as far as I can tell. The images from the Place des Arts lobby were all correctly categorized until you moved them to the metro station. There's about six images left in the metro station cat that clearly don't belong. They don't have any resemblance to the metro station and they were all moved there by you. Any chance you'd be willing to undo those edits yourself? thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 13:17, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Feedback about QI imageEdit

Hello, I just read your email, usually communicating via Commons is quicker (at least for me) as I get tons of emails. I don't see in QI anymore the image you refer to but anyhow, I use Adobe Lightroom for processing my pictures, if you look for a free software I would try RawTherapee, when I used it some years ago it worked pretty good. With gimp you can do more editing but it's of course more powerful. Poco2 17:20, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Wrong category nameEdit

Hello.Category:Mediagrant: is wanted but the name seems to be wrong. Please correct the name or create it yourself 2 (talk) 13:56, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

I did not add any such category myself. This category: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Mediagrant_2019 is being added automatically as I upload images taken for this project (and there's nothing wrong with that category). If you see a typo somewhere, please include a link to the specific file. JiriMatejicek (talk) 08:15, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
The name of this category has Colon. What is the solution? 2 (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Please send me a specific address where you see the problem, otherwise we can't get anywhere. JiriMatejicek (talk) 16:03, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
The wrong name is Category:Mediagrant: while the correct name is Category:Mediagrant 2 (talk) 17:14, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification. Sorry for being slow; since the first link was shown in red, I didn't realize it was actually filled with files. As I'm not respionsible for this, I'll let @Martin Urbanec:, who administers the tools for Mediagrant, deal with it. JiriMatejicek (talk) 07:12, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

2: Seems to be fixed now, please report if not; it was caused by my recent changes. The wrong category will take a bit of time to empty itself. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 10:36, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2019Edit

Hallo JiriMatejicek,
