File:Peloduro_Portada_No.99.png

To answer the questions you asked at the DR, when reopened. The 'work' is PD in Uruguay, it entered the PD 50 years after the author's death (which was in 1965). The 'image itself' is under a CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, from Creative Commons Uruguay, who digitized it. The issue is that the work 'itself' is almost certainly the subject of a restored copyright, in the US, under the URAA (the Uruguayan copyright did not expire until the end of last year), which would make the license of the 'image itself' irrelevant, unless the owner of the US copyright (the author's heirs) actually consented to releasing the original work under the CC license... a fact that is not in evidence. Better source request for File:View of Trigo Mountains Wilderness, AZ.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:View of Trigo Mountains Wilderness, AZ.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the file because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. — regards, Revi 16:19, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

@El Funcionario: Pardon, but "no permission" statements apply when permission is claimed. I am not claiming permission, "PD-US-no notice" is not a permission, simply a statement that a permission is not needed. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:56, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
Sorry but it sounds weird to me that a NBA logo could be under a free license. --El Funcionario (talk) 10:27, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, mostentimes they aren't. But you can't always claim copyright on a logo. Sometimes it's too simple to be copyrightable. In this case, it was published back in times where copyright required a copyright notice and it doesn't have one. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:19, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Your VFC installation method is deprecated

Hello Jo-Jo Eumerus, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Done and tagged the JS page for deletion, although it seems that the other bots don't like a speedy tagged JS page. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Jo-Jo Eumerus/common.js

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

 1. You edited User:Jo-Jo Eumerus/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
 2. Though, that change appears to introduce 5 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
 3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

File:Dnepropetrovskiy rayon herb.png

Why did you rename it? There was no error there.--Anatoliy (talk) 09:44, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

@Ahonc: Apparently using "gerb" is an error, going by the Ukrainian Wikipedia at any rate. The toponym was correct, or at very least it was not clear that it is wrong; hence I didn't rename that. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:49, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
@Viiictorrr: ? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:50, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
But it was name from Russian. Dnepropetrovkiy is Russian transliteration, and Ukrinian will be Dnipropetrovskyi. Now we have mix from Russian and Ukrainian. COM:FR says about proper nouns, gerb is not proper noun. And COM:FR#Which files should not be renamed? forbids rename between different languages.--Anatoliy (talk) 09:53, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
I didn't change the name of the place (which is Dnepropetrovskiy both before and after my filemove), just "gerb" to "herb". And going by the Russian Wikipedia "gerb" isn't correct in that language either. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:04, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Why not?--Anatoliy (talk) 10:06, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
According to the resolution of Verkhovna Rada №1377-VIII, it is not Dnipropetrovskyj, it`s now Dniprovskyj. And I think, if that rayon is located in Ukraine, it should be named as in Ukrainian language, not as some minorities may named it for them.--Viiictorrr (talk) 10:09, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Viiictorrr, no. It is wrong opinion, Commons is multilimgual project, and any language has priority. Author may name files in any language what he want. So if we will have correct name in Swahili, we caannot rename it. It is forbidden by Commons' policies.--Anatoliy (talk) 10:20, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
@Ahonc: see my reply below.--Viiictorrr (talk) 10:21, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
@Ahonc: ru:Герб and uk:Герб both show "herb" as the transliteration, thus I assumed it was incorrect to say "gerb". @Viiictorrr: I am not certain that that is a good rename reason. Perhaps it should be asked for at its own separate request. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:13, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
No, transliteration of ru:герб is gerb, and gerb is also alternative transliteration of uk:герб. But it is not proper name.--Anatoliy (talk) 10:17, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Gerb means spelling like in Russian, Herb - like in Ukrainian. That`s the difference.
Why not a good reason for renaming? This is a big problem, that names of COA and towns in Ukraine often aren`t called as it is must be on Wiki. By writing Dneprovskiy gerb we declare, that we are still under Russian influence and still just a colony, not independent country.--Viiictorrr (talk) 10:19, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
It is forbidden because 1) it is not proper name, so not falls ander p.3 of COM:FR, 2) renaming between different language which forbidden by COM:FR.--Anatoliy (talk) 10:25, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

I've reverted my rename pending a consensus on which name is appropriate - based on this discussion it seems like it may have been an incorrect rename request. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:28, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: it is wrong, cause according to the resolution of Verkhovna Rada №1377-VIII, it is not Dnepropetrovskiy, it`s now Dneprovskiy.--Viiictorrr (talk) 10:31, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
@Viictorrr: We do not generally prefer one particular language over another. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:17, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
It is not language, Jo-Jo Eumerus. It was renamed recently.--Viiictorrr (talk) 15:22, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Best way would be to tag the file for another rename. I am wary of this type of rename, myself. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:25, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Done.--Viiictorrr (talk) 15:27, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Distict renamed but CoA stays the CoA of Dnipropetrovsk Raion too, so its name is not wrong. And also there is ambiguity. There are four oyher districts in Ukraine with name Dniprovskyi/Dneprovskiy.
You are wrong. Look at official site of that rayon, where is written Dniprovskyj (Dneprovskiy). Неправда. Дивіться офіційний сайт, де пише Дніпровський район.--Viiictorrr (talk) 15:39, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
On the current image there is not inscription with district name.--Anatoliy (talk) 15:42, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
That doesn`t change the meaning. Or do you want to see that inscription?--Viiictorrr (talk) 15:45, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
But whatever--Viiictorrr (talk) 15:51, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Anatoliy (talk) 16:01, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Тепер, коли ви відкотили до попередньої версії файлу збагнув, що мали на увазі й загалом, маєте рацію.--Viiictorrr (talk) 16:02, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Well, correct CoA is with inscription, so I revert to previous version. And this CoA is still CoA of Dnipropetrovsk Raion.--Anatoliy (talk) 15:46, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Rename request declined File:Baltit Fort, Hunza, GB.jpg

Hi, there are indeed two different forts in Hunza Valley, not far away from each other. The one is Baltit Fort, the other one is Altit Fort. I don't know why those two places have such similar names. The fact leads to confusion from time to time...
Google Maps: From Altit Fort to Baltit Fort
Baltit Fort is in the town of Karimabad, while Altit Fort is in Altit Village, right above the Hunza River.
The File in question definitely shows the Karakoram Highway above the Hunza River with Altit Village and the tower of Altit Fort clearly visible. Compare with this one: File:1100 Years Old Altit Fort from Top.jpg. Best regards--Rupert Pupkin (talk) 09:34, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Greetings, @Rupert Pupkin: I did notice this when I was evaluating the rename request but the sites marked under this name in WikiMapia didn't look like anything in the photo. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:18, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I don't understand why you did not rename the file. Bihari József actor of Hungary is on the pic. Bihari József színművész, Fortepan 52426.jpg would be a better name. Please rename it. --Regasterios (talk) 13:26, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Well, it might be a better name, but so much better as to merit a rename? I am not sure about that. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:36, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I'm going to ask somebody else. --Regasterios (talk) 13:58, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Renaming

I had uploaded File:Escudo de Apóstoles (Misiones).svg under that name, because of its accuracy. Municipalidad de Apóstoles (Misiones) refers to an institution, but file is the city's coat of arms. I'm aware it doesn't match other files' names, only this one was not the file to be renamed, but the others.

Mistake may come from files like File:Municipalidad de Apóstoles.jpg which are the coat of arms' use in municipality's official papers, that's why institution's name can be seen under the coat. However, «Municipalidad» is the institution which uses the coat of arms.

How can be settled this issue? --Genericool (talk) 02:48, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

These "harmonize file names" rename requests are a problem since they usually come with no indication that there is an accepted title pattern. @Regions: asked for the rename so I'll call them here. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:22, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Good point of view. I agree. Genericool is wrightǃ I´m going to propose "Escudo de (name of each city)"... much... much better. --Regions (talk) 11:28, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Dialect map

Here you ask: harmonize with what?

Harmonize with similar maps in its category, like Dialects-cat-nordoest.png, Dialects-cat-tortosi.png, Dialects-cat-ukr-catalanord.png, Dialects-cat-valdetransitio.png and Dialects-cat-valseptentrion.png.

Sorry for not explaining well the reason in the request. The next time I will do it   --Foguera (talk) 18:56, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Alright. I've restored the request and will make a rename pass now. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:11, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, مصعب, but I am not sure if I want to join a private group like that. One, I am currently already active in some other private groups (not Wikip/media related) and I am not sure how many of them I can handle. Two, I am a little wary of private groups discussing on-wiki matters that don't explicitly revolve about privacy-sensitive issues given the back-room impression they give. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 12:10, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
thanks. It is not private and all discussions are apparent to new members. We dont discuss any private issues. It is just for highlighting requests that need some language experience to handle. File:梨山腳下的有機稻田 20120814.jpg

Please look at your edits, "梨山腳下的有機稻田" is problematic and misleading. As far as I know from reading the source of the file, it was taken in Hualien. The problem is, 梨山 is located in the mountain area of Taichung, why did Hualien become Taichung?--Kai3952 (talk) 04:13, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Seems like you want to submit another rename request to have the location corrected. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:53, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
No! What I want to say is, how do you determine if this file "File:梨山腳下的有機稻田 20120814.jpg" was taken in Hualien or Taichung?--Kai3952 (talk) 09:46, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't. I trust that the person requesting a file rename has. Expecting file renamers to know all these details themselves is unrealistic. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean. You didn't find any problems?--Kai3952 (talk) 10:40, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
What I am saying is that you can't expect a file renamer to always know what the correct location is. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 12:16, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Café & Kosmos 18 June 2013 (9022575120).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Yes, "Жерела" is how it was written in the title. After more than 100 years, we write it differently, but I wanted to rename rest of files in the series to match the original title. Some of them are already renamed and have transcripted pages in wikisource.--Madvin (talk) 17:07, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
Ah, OK, that wasn't clear. That means that the rename requests will have to be resubmitted. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:14, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Jo-Jo Eumerus!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I have been trying to correct the categories for misidentified/mislabeled images. See File talk:Salar de Arizaro.jpg for the mentioned image. Both photos are taken from a similar location. Jespinos (talk) 13:17, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

@Jespinos: Hmm, you think Vado Putana is actually Quebrada Quepiaco? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 18:52, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
No, they are not the same thing. Vado Putana is strongly linked with Bofedal de Putana, those categories would likely to be merged. Jespinos (talk) 19:24, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

File:Boo-Boo Bear.png

To Jo-Jo Eumerus (in regards to File:Boo-Boo Bear.png) Hey, thanks for marking it as a possible copyright violation. I didn't realize that putting an adequate depiction of a character FOR THE SIMPLE SAKE OF VISUALIZATION PURPOSES ONLY could be deemed and misinterpreted as a "copyright violation", provided that the image of Boo-boo was ONLY USED TO DEPICT THE SAME IN ITS WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE! You see, I'm a newbie and I couldn't figure out how to cross-post or in other words - how to feature the original Boo-boo upload from the English Wikipedia to the Bulgarian Wikipedia. ALL I WANTED WAS TO MAKE SURE THE BULGARIAN EQUIVALENT OF THE BOO-BOO BEAR PAGE TO HAVE A SIMPLE DEPICTION OF THE CHARACTER. It was an HONEST MISTAKE. With all that in mind, NOW THAT YOU'VE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO DELETE THE IMAGE, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF AT LEAST YOU LINK THE ORIGINAL BOO-BOO IMAGE FROM THE ENGLISH ARTICLE TO THE BULGARIAN TRANSLATION OF THE SAME ARTICLE, SO THAT A PICTURE IS PRESENT IN BOTH VERSIONS. THANKS a Lot! Altidore86 (talk) 16:09, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Mapas provinciales nominated for deletion

Hi, Jo-Jo Eumerus. Your nomination of "mapas provinciales" by Risopatrón et al. was accepted. I can't find out if it right or not but you made a not accurate claim. You said that Chilean laws stablishes 70 years. That's true, today. When Risopatrón et al. published their work, the law stablished 5 after author's death. In 1925 a new law stablished 20 years. Then, it was changed to 50 and 70 years. Depending on author's death, this work is PD in Chile too. Regards. Lin linao ¿dime? 18:05, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Well, this is sort of the problem - we don't know the death dates of the mapmakers and thus can't establish that this is PD. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 18:55, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
I've requested these files' restoration. Both Risopatron and cartographers Ossandón and Boloña were dead before 1936, and so they are in the public domain in Chile since, at least, 1966. --Bedivere (talk) 20:47, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
