"zodiac" DRs

Hi,

A new user uploaded some pictures using his real name in the filename. He then requested that they be moved in order to remove his real name. When that was done, it created redirects which he says still turn up in Google. He created deletion requests for them, and I added a speedy delete, since none of the redirects were actually used (except on OgreBot pages). It looks like you kept all of them, though, and removed the SD tags. What is the reason for keeping them?

Well that depends, under which license the copyright holder likes to publish the image. Recommanded is {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}, but there a lot of othe rpossibilities - see Commons:License tags. The copyright has to send an email to the commons support team like dokumented on Commons:OTRS. Hi, ich habe keine Betreiäge dort - siehe hier. Aber Du meinst wahrscheinlich dies. Das Bild hatte als Quelle einfach nur "facebook", und wurde von mir als ohne nachvollziehbare Quelle gelöscht. This is a bit complicated issue. I'm the grandson of the author, he's passed away a few years ago. My uncle has had the file (the PDF file to be specific) uploaded for free on his site for years now. I honestly don't know what the copyright issue is with this book, I assume it belongs to the publisher Yayasan Pancur Siwah but they don't even have a website. The book has been available for free, thanks to my uncle. I'm not sure what kind of license this book needs but it's 100% free to obtain and that's that.

If the rights belong to the publisher, you have to ask him if he is willing to publish the files under a free license ({{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} is recommended). If he agrees he has to send an email to the commons support team - see Commons:OTRS. Once you know that such an email has been sent, you better place {{OTRS pending}} to the files description pages. Their email server doesn't work, I can't communicate with them. That file has been on my uncle's site for years, they won't bother to send a copyright claim, it's a pretty insignificant book. Maybe we should assume that the rights to this book are held by the author's heirs?

Renaming request

Hello.

I requested the renaming of File:Standard time zones of the world.png to File:Standard time zones of the world (2016).png, because this file which has not been updated since September 2016 cannot be overwritten, and that is why it should be renamed as numerous up to date time zone maps of the world exist in Category:Maps of World time zones.

Deleting duplicates

Hi JuTa,

I noticed this deletion by you of a duplicate file. Could you please undelete/merge in such a way that the older file is the resulting file, including file history? This image was a winning picture in Wiki Loves Monuments Nepal, and through your deletion, it would technically have to be retroactively disqualified, because it is not uploaded in September. I guess that is no-one's intention :). There's no problem with uploading a higher resolution of the same file on top of a winning picture of course. Thanks! Hi, normaly I keep the older versio and redirect the newer, except there are are good reason to to it the other way around. I now switched the 2 images. Hops its OK now in your point of view.

Bollywood Hungama

Hello, a few days ago you deleted File:Gauravarora.jpg. The uploader came to the IRC help channel; apparently the image was from Bollywood Hungama (here), and some images hosted by Bollywood Hungama are released under a Creative Commons license (compare File:Patralekha gracing ‘Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards 2016’.jpg for an image with all the right tags). The same thing happened to this file. Looks like it was just blindly reverted to the last version that had a license so it would get out of Category:Media without a license: needs history check. Yes, I removed the CC-BY-SA license on those. It's a scan and I'm pretty sure the Soviet Union did not use Creative Commons. Nevertheless I put the metadata back and reinstated the CC-BY-SA license, even though it is completely wrong, just to stop this from happening again. Anyone can make a mistake, that's no problem, but edits like these should NOT be marked as "minor".

The issue for File:Карьера 2.jpg is: the sentence at the bottom below "ntoro: I4482.20", the emblem (PD-RU-exempt?) and the signature. (can signatures be copyrighted?) The signature is either PD-ineligible or De Minimis (but I don't know which), the emblem is probably PD-RU-exempt (but how do I verify) and the sentence I cannot read so don't know if it is creative. Possibly De Minimis as well.

The issue for File:Присвоение звания.jpg is: the emblems (PD-RU-exempt?), the block of text in the top right corner (creative? older than 1923? possibly De Minimis?) and the main text in the center of the right half. I don't want them to be deleted. They can most probably have a correct and Commons compatible attached to them, I just don't know the exact details. And I don't know how to get the attention of people who do know how to figure it out. (mainly, people who can read those documents) If I suspect a file can't be given a Commons compatible license, I nominate it. This is not the case here.

But don't you put this on me. You reverted the page to a version that had the (wrong) license on it with no concern for all the edits that had been made in between. And also without any knowledge of what the right license is. That might happen just by mistake, but marking this as a "minor edit" is really not the right thing to do. Without a license template they will get deleted shortly for sure. If you are not sure about another valid license you may ask on Commons:Village pump or on some other language versions of it (see Template:Lang-VP). And, yes I reinstated the (wrong) license template(s). But the images were alleady marked as "no prmission" or similar. I now checked it in more detail and could not find an external source earlier then the commons upload to doubt own owkr by the uploader as claimed. John the Painter deletion request: close early as a keep?

you (or a bot) listed the image John the Painter for deletion, about a week ago. A week later, my two comments are the only ones on the discussion page. I am involved with another small project, Simple English Wikipedia, so I know how difficult it can be to get people to participate in community discussions. Nevertheless, I'd expect more participation, even though most people are probably focused on the Wikis, and not on the project that hosts the images and media. Hi, the main reason was that there was no license template on the file description page. See Commons:Licensing and Commons:Copyright tags. But you didn't used the {{Information}} template too, which is strongly recomanded. ANd finaly and most important, if you dont took a photo yourself, we need a written confirmation by the copyright holder, which is normaly the person who took the photo, and not the depicted person or his widow (if she didn't took it). Even though Category:Milestones in Gers may have been empty, it is part of a countrywide, though incomplete, series Category:Milestones in France by department. Wie kommst Du dazu, so wie hier dokumentiert, Bilder zu löschen, die nachweislich über 200 Jahre alt sind, nur weil sie keine explizite Quelle haben? Was für eine hingeworfene Pseudobegründung ist das? Und jetzt hast Du mir schon wieder so einen Baustein auf meine Diskussionsseite geknallt, und wieder geht es um ein Bild, dessen Ersteller eindeutig seit gut zwei Jahrhunderten tot ist. Der PD-old-Baustein ist drin, das muss reichen. Was erwartest Du bitte? Dass ich nachforsche, wer das wann gemalt hat? Was soll das? Wie soll das gehen? Das ist ein PD-Bild, weil es steinalt ist - und gut! Und ich wiederhole es ein allerletztes Mal, wie ich es schon diverse Male auf meiner Diskussionsseite getan habe, ohne dass ein hiesiger Admin darauf reagiert hätte: Ich bin NICHT der originale Uploader dieser Bilder! Ich habe sie vor jetzt schon meistens zehn Jahren von der englischen WP hierher verschoben. Woher soll ich bitteschön wissen, woher sie stammen? Fragt das doch den Original-Uploader. Kann das vielleicht mal irgendwer kapieren? So ein dämlicher Mist ist der Grund, dass ich nicht mehr aktiv bin. Dies ist auch das letzte Mal, dass ich auf so ein dämliches Template reagiere. Hi, siehe Commons:Essential information. Eine nachvollziehbare Quelle ist nun mal eine der Grundvorausserungem dass eine Datei auf Commons verbleiben kann. Manchmal fällt das leider erst recht spät auf. Wenn Du die von en: oder sonst woher hierher übertragen hast, wirst Du beim setzen des entsprechenden Bausteins automatisch informiert. Das kann ich gar nicht verhindern. Dass die fehlende Quelle nicht schon auf en: aufgefallen und das Bild gelöscht wurde bevor Du es hierher übertragen hast, dafür kann ich nix. Hi @JuTa: As the general meaning of the Persian word "Atashkadeh" is "Fire Temple", I tried to redirect Category:Atashkadeh to Category:Fire temples and meanwhile add the link of Atashkadeh Mountain to Category:Atashkadeh Mountains. After I saved theses changes, however, I realized that the page of en:Atashkadeh Mountain in English Wikipedia and the relevant articles in other languages are still linked to Category:Atashkadeh. I tried to edit the link on Wikidata project Kūh-e Āteshkadeh (Q21080497) but I could not even find the link to Category:Atashkadeh on that page, therefore I decided to make the Category:Atashkadeh empty, hoping that after deleting the category, the link to the article on Wikipedia will be removed. It didn't happen though and now if you click on the Wikimedia Commons link under the section of In other projects on right box menu of the article "en:Atashkadeh Mountain", you will be directed to the deleted page of Category:Atashkadeh (instead of Atashkadeh Mountain).
