Welcome to Commons edit

Hi Kurun! I noticed you uploading quite a few good images from NASA. Thanks a lot for that. You can upload the large version from NASA too, not only the medium sized. Don't bother about the file size, this should not be a problem. Regards --myself488 (talk) 22:32, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

When you format dates in the image-description like "2010-02-25" for today, dates can be automatically 'translatet' in other languages. This makes things easier for users not speaking English. --myself488 (talk) 11:46, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the tip. Will do
Unfortunately it only works if the formatation is exactly the same as above. You have to write the year at the beginning, then the month and at last the day. Regards --myself488 (talk) 21:24, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

あなたは日本人?

I am not a Japanese. What is the reason behind someone asking such a question ? What has a person's nationality have to do with Wikipedia editing?

Better source request for Image:SoyuzTMA12 Launch.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SoyuzTMA12 Launch.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the help desk or me at my talkpage. Thank you. High Contrast (talk) 13:39, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello, please state the source differently: not directly to the image (to the .jpg link) but the page where you found the images. Thanks in advance for correcting. --High Contrast (talk) 13:39, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

NASA images edit

I see you have been uploading a lot of NASA images. Can I ask you to please try and add the catalog template NASA-image to such future uploads ? That would be awfully helpful. TheDJ (talk) 00:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Copyright status: File:Soyuz_TMA15_Launch.jpg edit

Hi,

I removed the NASA PD license from File:Soyuz TMA15 Launch.jpg because the image appears to have been created by ESA, and therefore would not be in the public domain. Just after the launch of Soyuz TMA-15 occurred last year, I uploaded a similar image from spaceflight.nasa.gov, but earlier this year I noticed in the metadata that it was taken by an ESA employee and nominated it for deletion). It seems strange that there aren't any NASA images of the launch, as they usually have a NASA photographer at Soyuz launches. --Jatkins (talk) 16:35, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:DisplaySketchBAtlantisKSC.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hello, Kurun!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
