Parliament building of BeninEdit

Greetings,

I saw the picture mentionned in the subject on the Benin page as well as Porto-Novo page. And it is written that it is the siege of Benin Parliament. Please, note that this is wrong. The building name in French is Palais des Congrès which can be litteraly translated as Palace of Congress, but its purpose is just to host events like seminars, conference and meeting. Benin Parliament siege is the "Palais des Gouverneurs" in French. And it is located in Porto-Novo, not Cotonou. Since i'm not used to editing wikipedia articles, I think i might let you know so you can correct this.

Best regards

Gildas Jr.

Photo of inside of Cappella PalatinaEdit

Hello, Magnus.

Would it please be possible to have your permission to use your photo of the inside of the Cappella Palatina, specifically the one that shows the upper wall and part of the stalactite ceiling? I am writing a book on Norman Sicily and would really like to use this as the composition is so unusual. Thank you.

The Vernaccia picEdit

Hi, my name is Marco. I just would like to tell that the pic uploaded in the Vernaccia article it is not a Vernaccia from Sardinia, but (as stated on the label on the bottle) is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano. These two wines are quite different. I think the caption should be corrected. Best regards

image on wikipedia entry for margaret cavendishEdit

Hi Magnus,

The image you uploaded on the Margaret Cavendish page in Wikipedia does not represent her. According to her biography, Mad Madge, it is an image of Mary Lucas, her sister. Is it possible to remove it? It is misleading as is. This is the link to the image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Margaret_Cavendish.jpg

Thanks!

please delete this picture, it's of me and i can't figure out how to delete itEdit

Mislabel leading to Embarrassing Situations "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya.jpg"Edit

Hello Magnus, My name is Derek Busby, and I am the assistant to Dr. Patch Adams. I am writing to you because the picture entitled "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya" has been incorrectly labeled. This picture is actually of Dr. Bowen White: http://bowenwhite.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/IMG_3774.jpg . While Drs. Adams and White are both amused by the mix-up, this picture has been used on several wikipedia pages (Spanish and Italian at least), and has been picked up by fans who came to believe this was a picture of Dr. Adams. We now have T-Shirts and a statue which feature the image of Dr. White, which have been presented to Dr. Adams--much to the confusion to all those involved. So, I would ask that you please edit this picture to reflect the reality that this is an image of Dr. Bowen White. Thank you. -Derek

maximale Länge (Zeichenzahl incl. Erweiterung) für Dateinamen auf Wikimedia CommonsEdit

Hallo Magnus Manske,

Simon Fraser of BalnainEdit

Hi Magnus I have written a book on the 1777 battles of Saratoga, which will be published by Oxford University Press next year. Simon Fraser of Balnain was mortally wounded in the second battle (about 3 PM on Oct. 7, 1777) at the moment that the battle and thus the entire American War of Independence reached its tipping point. It is, of course, important for us to include the image you uploaded, the only good one of Fraser. While I understand that credit is not required, I would like to include the credit line "Courtesy of Magnus Manske" or whatever alternative credit line you would prefer. Please contact me at drs17@psu.edu so that I am sure that I get this right. Dean Snow —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.58.104.51 (talk) 16:26, 03 December 2015 (UTC)

OAuth identity changed suddenlyEdit

Hi Magnus, I was using Flickr2Commons when suddenly my image uploads were credited to a different user. File:Basin and Range National Monument (21584370316).jpg was the last one under my account (2016-01-20 18:31 UTC) and the next one, File:Basin and Range National Monument (21599169342).jpg at 18:35 UTC got uploaded under JoshG (talk · contribs) (who is as far as I can tell mostly retired). I did not re-authorize with OAuth in between the two uploads, nor did I dump my cookies at any time. Then for a while, Flickr2Commons was unavailable due to a 502 (Bad Gateway) error. During this time, I restarted my browser (Firefox), re-authorized with OAuth, and resumed uploading. The latest image File:Basin and Range Mt. Irish (22496595685).jpg was uploaded correctly under my account. I don't know if this was a one-time fluke, but you may want to keep an eye on it. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 22:40, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Picture request: Towards a metric AmericaEdit

Hi - I really like this picture:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_States#/media/File:Metric-america.gif

It is used for example here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_States

However the source of this picture is somewhat unclear. Could you please provide a direct link to the source?

If possible I would like to have a high resolution version of the picture. I have a print of it in my office, where tool sizes in fractional inches, and similar idiocy, is a daily annoyance :).

Your help is much appreciated. ¨

Removing "from XXXXXX" in author field of Flickr uploadsEdit

I have long used your f2c to upload from Flickr, and I have run into an issue with a particular photographer in whereby when files are uploaded using f2c, in the "Author" field the upload also includes where they are from; i.e. Author = Billy Bob from Some Small Town, Germany. The issue I have run into has the photographer hiding their hometown location on Flickr due to a personal privacy issue, but on their files on Commons this information is still evident. Flickr users are able to change their location at any stage, and if they decide to leave Flickr completely (i.e. shut down their account) due to privacy issues (we don't know why people shut down their accounts), then this information is still present here on Commons.

I also have another photographer who has recently moved from one country to another, and having their old country in the author field is erroneous.

I don't see there be any reason that this information needs to be added to uploads here to Commons; it isn't required for attribution or anything, it is somewhat crufty information. Also when an external re-user uses the "use this file" link, this crufty information is present in the code that is given to them to use.

I am suggesting that we remove the location part of the author field from future uploads. Thoughts? 124.148.75.31 03:04, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

CommonsHelper tool questionEdit

Greetings Magnus. I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I really like your CommonsHelper tool. It makes uploading images to commons a lot easier than doing it manually. I have noticed however that when it does that, Ogrebot then goes along and has to do some cleanup. I was wondering if there would be anyway to adjust CommonsHelper to reduce or eliminate the amount of followup edits that OgreBot 2 has to do.

A couple suggestions if you don't mind:

  1. I would recommend that if a file contains no source information, that CommonsHelper would not let the user upload it. I had the problem with File:Jose Calugas.jpg recently.
  2. When I uploaded File:USMCGenRossDwyer.jpg it included some information that referenced Wikipedia itself. I would suggest maybe not allowing these either. For what its worth, in this case, the file refers to another similar file called File:Dwyer RossT MajGenUSMC.jpg that has the actual reference information. Not sure your tool can do much about this but in general I would think its not ideal to upload images that use WP as a source.
  3. When I uploaded File:Paul F Straub.jpg Ogrebot then went back and did some cleanup on the file that can be seen here. Maybe the CommonsHelper tool could do some of this when it loads the image?
  4. If you look at my uploads here you can see some more things that Ogrebot changes.

I its not possible to do these things with the tool or if you don't have the time I certainly understand. I just wanted to mention it because I noticed that Ogrebot is quite a busy bot and it might reduce some of its edits and the discussions that ensue if some of these things were tweaked in how the CommonsHelper tool worked.

Thanks for the time and please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for all the tools you make, they really do help a lot. Reguyla (talk) 01:48, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Also, if you want I can add them to your feature request tool you link too above. I just wanted to mention it in case it wasn't possible or needed. They also refer to the toolserver, so they probably don't work. Cheers! Reguyla (talk) 01:50, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
