Parliament building of BeninEdit

I saw the picture mentionned in the subject on the Benin page as well as Porto-Novo page. And it is written that it is the siege of Benin Parliament. Please, note that this is wrong. The building name in French is Palais des Congrès which can be litteraly translated as Palace of Congress, but its purpose is just to host events like seminars, conference and meeting. Benin Parliament siege is the "Palais des Gouverneurs" in French. And it is located in Porto-Novo, not Cotonou. Since i'm not used to editing wikipedia articles, I think i might let you know so you can correct this.

Best regards

Photo of inside of Cappella PalatinaEdit

Hello, Magnus.

Would it please be possible to have your permission to use your photo of the inside of the Cappella Palatina, specifically the one that shows the upper wall and part of the stalactite ceiling? I am writing a book on Norman Sicily and would really like to use this as the composition is so unusual. Thank you.

The Vernaccia picEdit

Hi, my name is Marco. I just would like to tell that the pic uploaded in the Vernaccia article it is not a Vernaccia from Sardinia, but (as stated on the label on the bottle) is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano. These two wines are quite different. I think the caption should be corrected. Best regards

image on wikipedia entry for margaret cavendishEdit

Hi Magnus,

The image you uploaded on the Margaret Cavendish page in Wikipedia does not represent her. According to her biography, Mad Madge, it is an image of Mary Lucas, her sister. Is it possible to remove it? It is misleading as is. This is the link to the image:

Mislabel leading to Embarrassing Situations "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya.jpg"Edit

Hello Magnus, My name is Derek Busby, and I am the assistant to Dr. Patch Adams. I am writing to you because the picture entitled "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya" has been incorrectly labeled. This picture is actually of Dr. Bowen White: . While Drs. Adams and White are both amused by the mix-up, this picture has been used on several wikipedia pages (Spanish and Italian at least), and has been picked up by fans who came to believe this was a picture of Dr. Adams. We now have T-Shirts and a statue which feature the image of Dr. White, which have been presented to Dr. Adams--much to the confusion to all those involved. So, I would ask that you please edit this picture to reflect the reality that this is an image of Dr. Bowen White. Thank you. -Derek

This has now been taken care of. Storkk (talk) 14:05, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

maximale Länge (Zeichenzahl incl. Erweiterung) für Dateinamen auf Wikimedia CommonsEdit

Hallo Magnus Manske,

Simon Fraser of BalnainEdit

Hi Magnus I have written a book on the 1777 battles of Saratoga, which will be published by Oxford University Press next year. Simon Fraser of Balnain was mortally wounded in the second battle (about 3 PM on Oct. 7, 1777) at the moment that the battle and thus the entire American War of Independence reached its tipping point. It is, of course, important for us to include the image you uploaded, the only good one of Fraser. While I understand that credit is not required, I would like to include the credit line "Courtesy of Magnus Manske" or whatever alternative credit line you would prefer. Please contact me at so that I am sure that I get this right. Dean Snow —Preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) 16:26, 03 December 2015 (UTC)

Tag: Widar [1.4]Edit

Hi Magnus Manske;

I see you are adding {{Crop for Wikidata}} to many file pages with the edit summary Tag: Widar [1.4].[3] The Widar link is uninformative.[4] Would it be possible to link your edit summary to an explanatory page, and/or to provide an explanation at the top of your talk page, please? Users have questioned these edits, and I am not nearly as well-informed as I should like to be.[5] Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:12, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

WhatIsThat? Not workingEdit

Hi Magnus,

I've been trying to use the WhatIsThat? tool (based on MultiDesc) and it seems to have some issue with its database:

Warning: parse_ini_file(/data/project// failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /data/project/magnustools/public_html/php/common.php on line 57

Warning: mysqli::mysqli(): (HY000/1045): Access denied for user @'' (using password: NO) in /data/project/magnustools/public_html/php/common.php on line 126

Fatal error: Call to a member function query() on boolean in /data/project/multidesc/public_html/index.php on line 171

Its quite a useful tool, available through the Commons interface, at it is a pity to have it down.

To me it seems that the DB is down. Is there something you could do?

Thanks a lot (I made a note also at Commons:Village pump)

Flickr2Commons not detecting all photosEdit

EDIT: This turned out to be a non-bug, and was my fault. Don't waste your time with this. Sorry for the bother! -IagoQnsi (talk) 16:41, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Hey, I've been using your Flickr2Commons tool a lot, and I really love it, but lately I've had a few issues where it won't detect every photo in an album. This album has 635 photos, but Flickr2Commons only detects 475 photos when I put in the photoset ID. The photos it skips are consistent (i.e. if I reload the page and put in the same album ID, it'll skip the same photos), but they seem to be more or less random -- I don't see anything that distinguishes them from the other photos. For example, looking at the first couple photos in that album I just linked:

Link Title Shows up in F2C? DSC_3275 No Luke Spencer Yes Luke Spencer Yes Kyle Smith No Kyle Smith No Sean Reynolds No Sean Reynolds No Richard Ballard Yes Richard Ballard Yes Richard Ballard Yes Richard Ballard Yes Richard Ballard Yes Brian Ownby No Brian Ownby Yes Brian Ownby Yes DSC_2390 No Tim Dobrowolski Yes
... ... ...

To my eyes, everything seems fine with the No photos -- they have the same CC BY license and everything else seems to be the same. Would you mind taking a look at this and seeing what might be causing Flick2Commons to skip these photos? I am the owner of that album, so if there is something that needs to be fixed in the album, I can change it. Many thanks, IagoQnsi (talk) 15:43, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Ah, my apologies; I just noticed your banner at the top asking that bug reports go on Bitbucket. My mistake, I'll copy this over to there. EDIT: Here is the issue I created. -IagoQnsi (talk) 15:46, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
