Saddleworth

Hi Nilfanion,

I just wondered if you'd be willing and able to (re)create an "upgraded" version of File:Saddleworth in Greater Manchester.png using File:Greater Manchester UK location map 2.svg as a base and File:Greater Manchester UK parish map (blank).svg for the shape of Saddleworth? The reason being that because of its large size (one of the largest civil parishes in England... or so I'm told), Saddleworth has a different map in its Wikipedia infobox and missed out on the upgrade.

I could make a png version, but think that svg is so much more elegant.

Category:Chatham Dockyard‎

I am questioning this recat. The point about Chatham Dockyard is that it in not a naval- base. The former Naval base was one km further down the road, though it did include this the historic bit. The cat does however contain images that are not buildings- but artifacts that have been moved into the museum- photographs were not allowed when this was a functioning base and for many years after it closed. Its well worth a visit- and probably worth contacting the management and organising an official photo wseep of some of that artifacts that are in storage. --ClemRutter (talk) 20:15, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Highland and Isle of Skye

Hi. Could you make a pin map locator for Isle of Skye and if possible for any of the administraive districts of Highland. Replied to the Skye one on the request page. And reason I haven't done anything in Ireland is data (or lack of it). The OS dataset is for Great Britain only unfortunately, so Ireland can't be done at this time. With the data I can do it but without...--Nilfanion (talk) 00:04, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Map

Hi, just spotted the map you created of civil parishes in the East Riding of Yorkshire, thanks for that. I was wondering if it could be used on the list of civil parishes article. Probably need to somehow number the parishes so that can show which parish is which in the list, is that possible? Also would be good to have a set of maps with each parish coloured in to go on the civil parish articles. Must be doing something wrong trying to follow the instructions. I tried to save file and if save to computer as is it cannot be opened in firefox. If I save it with the suggested name of 772px-East_Riding_of_Yorkshire_UK_parish_map_(blank).svg.png then it is openable in firefox. You are right. I have now got a set of parish maps for the East Riding and have only found the typos above. Though I have not checked that the correct bit is coloured for the parishes. Just up-loading the existing ones that were created, before starting the slower job of uploading the rest. On the Geograph images a location cat will at least give a handle to locating them, but the amount of images is rather high to make manual progress on. I also notice some odd categories that have been created by users such as Category:Towns, villages and civil parishes in Selby district which do not seem to fit in with the usual naming. The Lincolnshire one with the long name I did for someone else and just matched the article title without investigating further, they are uploading further Lincolnshire maps. Probably the name is used by the county/district council as I know some of the East Riding ones differ from what the OS call them. Churches in Cornwall

Hello, Thank you for your observations. I began by trying to follow the pattern which existed without editing too many of the files. Because of the settlement pattern of Cornwall it is not always obvious how to categorize churches, whether by civil parish, ecclesiastical parish or actual settlement (e.g. St Nectan's Church in the parish of St Winnow has been given the category of Churches in Lostwithiel). Many of the Methodist chapels are short of information so it is hard to be precise about the categories for them. I hope to be able to make the categorization more consistent later. I do not know whether it is possible to rename a category rather than move each of the files to another one.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 19:12, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Vire Island

Sorry - missed this one. No it is not an island. The water in that geograph image is not the Dart but the mill stream. I guess in that sense there is a large "island" from the weir where the mill stream comes off to when it rejoins the Dart but I'm pretty sure that would not be a real island! Thanks, yeah its a start - the method I'm using for now can only fix the ones I can specify exactly (so a large proportion won't be touched. As for the topic (and intersection), would it be possible to add the Geograph topic to the Commons page somehow? Either at upload as by a bot run after. IMO, the first point to aim for is to get everything into as precise a location category as possible and a <topic> in <county> category, or a <topic> in <city/large town> category. Now my bot has IDed the location, another bot can come along and use that. Would it help if I added a new category such as "Geograph files with checked location" to track them?

Bear in mind that no matter how good the bot, the final categorization will have to be by humans (assisted by Cat-a-Lot and similar) for two major reasons:

1. Any file with additional relevant cats aside the Geograph topic will likely need manual attention. For instance, no bot would be able to place this image into the extremely relevant Category:Snow in Dartmoor.
2. Personally, I don't think <topic> in <county> should be necessarily broken down further to <topic> in <village> for many of the most commons ones (such as Category:Fields in Devon). It may be better further by subject not location, so split off eg Category:Wheat fields in Devon, which again will have to be a manual chore.--Nilfanion (talk) 20:00, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

A related topic - uploading to Commons with no categories means the community will add categories (which is good - they will probably find useful categories the bots never will), removing the {{Uncategorized-Geograph}} as they do so, for example. Good edits like that we could lose the geographic information completely on some images. Re - Kingston upon Hull

Thanks for your detailed explanation - I didn't realise about the sort to Z thing - thanks for setting me straight on that. As for the Category:Kingston upon Hull (uncategorised) - I was hoping to use it as a "files needing looking at temporary place".. As for this image File:Pantomime 1803.jpg the reason I put it in the 'uncategorised' category is that I've been trying to find out what exactly the connection with Kingston upon Hull is and can't - I assume it's not there by mistake..

I accept that some images could be in the top category - eg iconic ones, large scale etc - but I would hope that most fit well into subcats.

Is there a reason why Nilfabot wont be doing any more? Using search I found easily a few which would fit into the "Hull" category eg File:Tidal Barrier, River Hull, Kingston upon Hull - geograph.org.uk - 660413.jpg File:Kingston Square, Hull - geograph.org.uk - 624847.jpg File:Kingston Square, Hull. - geograph.org.uk - 1136378.jpg - I expect (estimate) that there are dozens or hundreds more... Is another bot going to catch these? (Searching for "Kingston upon Hull" turns up many uncategorised (more than 50%) images, and I've already categorised at least 100 - so there must be many..) Maps again

Hi again, can you take a look at File:North Yorkshire UK parish map (blank).svg and see if there is a problem with downloading the link as I did for the East Riding of Yorkshire map. Once downloaded it does not appear to be recognised to allow viewing. Editing the colour and attempting to upload gives a "File extension does not match MIME type." error. Mapping York

Hi. If you can look at User talk:Dr. Blofeld on en.wikipedia, you'll see that I wasn't very happy with the new location map on the York article there. He pointed me at your Talk page here. I'm not exactly complaining about the use of the map of the City of York unitary authority, but York itself is by no means contiguous with the UA. Would it be possible to position some sort of indication of where the approx centre of York is on the map, perhaps by using the Coordinates in the infobox, so that people won't think that the whole red area is "York", as against the smaller area that actually is York (much of the rest is farmland, villages, etc.). Hi,

You have taken out the Duplicate template on this image, saying it is not an exact duplicate and that the other image is a derivative. I fact, if you look closely, both are the same image and the Efcuse user has wrongly put File:Albert Hoyt Taylor levels.jpg as a derivative. Nothing has been added to the original image File:Albert Hoyt Taylor.jpg in that file, it is only an enhance contrast image that should have been loaded as a new version in the original file. I assume that Efcuse did not know about uploading a new version and that is why he created a new image file.

What do you suggest to eliminate one of the redondant image ?

Rail operator route maps: Chiltern Railways

Hi, re your map File:Chiltern Railways route map 2010.svg - this is now out of date as of four days ago. On 22 May 2011, Chiltern Railways gained the Oxford to Bicester Line from First Great Western. It's physically separate from the other Chiltern Railways lines, because at present there is a clear gap at Bicester. Is there any chance that you could add the new route?

Also, I see that the Paddington-South Ruislip line is included, which has only one train a day, in one direction only (11:36 from Padd, arr. High Wycombe 12:19) - on that basis, the Banbury-Oxford line should also be included, since Chiltern run one train per day in both directions along that route (23:38 from Leamington Spa, arr. Redirects

Hi, I was wondering whether you can help me explain to a user about the need for retaining redirects, especially for files that have been here a long time (there are also side issues about mis-using the {{Badname}} template to try and get rid of redirects resulting from file moves (eg [1][2]), and the mis-use of file mover privileges to make file moves that wouldn't be approved under current file renaming policy(eg [3]). Thanks for looking at those but there were two that actually did need deletion, caused by the user renaming the file, then renaming it again soon afterward due to a small mistake.

Originally File:Holden LH Torana 1974-1976 02.jpg was renamed to:

File:1974–1976 Holden Torana (LH) SLR sedan (2008-09-02) 02.jpg then to:

File:1974-1976 Holden Torana (LH) SLR sedan (2008-09-02) 02.jpg (dash changed to a hyphen)

I redirected the original to the final name, so the intermediate filename,

File:1974–1976 Holden Torana (LH) SLR sedan (2008-09-02) 02.jpg

which was only there momentarily, can be deleted. Similarly :

File:Holden LH Torana 1974-1976 01.jpg was renamed to

File:1974–1976 Holden Torana (LH) SLR sedan (2008-09-02) 01.jpg then to

File:1974-1976 Holden Torana (LH) SLR sedan (2008-09-02) 01.jpg so now

Hi, I notice that you've occasionally advised users that Firefox can be used to display a SVG. This is true: but it might be worth mentioning that the current versions of Google Chrome, Safari and Opera can also do this (Internet Exploder 7 can't, however). Tux images

Hey. Okay, but {{Vector version available}} won't mark them as waiting for deletion. These files is exactly the same. Only different is format (rastor or vector) or dimensions. It's nonsense to have so many exactly the same Tuxes. So how can I mark them for deletion? Using {{Speedydelete}}? Hallo Nilfanion, I'm astonished by your actions with the file STS-135 Space Shuttle Atlantis makes its final landing 07.jpg. Why did you delete the less compressed better one? I had marked the correct version to delete. Can i hear the reasons? Thanks --Ras67 (talk) 20:46, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

The only real reason for favouring one over the other to my mind is that the kept version has a derivative work on Commons (File:NASA shuttle Atlantis STS-135 final landing cropped.jpg). I didn't actually notice the difference in filesize when I pushed the delete button, merely that the two files look all-but-identical.

I've re-reviewed this after your comment, and yes the two files are slightly different in size (152KB vs 139KB), but the bigger filesize doesn't automatically imply better quality. Looking at both images at 100% they have similar levels of noise and JPG artifacts. If I had to choose between them, I'd probably go for the kept version as I think the runway lights look marginally superior (for instance, the light at extreme left is cleaner and has less noise around it).

If you want, I can restore the deleted version but I would not then speedily delete the other - it would have to go to a full deletion request. Wow, thank you for your effort. I will upload the better version upon the existing file. …the bigger filesize doesn't automatically imply better quality. Of course, but in this case the larger variant is slightly better, due to absent of color subsampling. You can see it on the right side the red stripe. I found the source there by a regular Google search for ziya tong doug hamilton. I could not find that exact photo, but it was clearly taken during the production of TV show by one of the people involved with the show - making it extremely unlikely to be free. Given the files resolution it might be a screenshot from the TV episode.

I found the Commons file via your duplicate tagging of a related image, and once I got curious started digging...

My interests are primarily focused on one nation (as is true for many of course), in that sense I'm not going to be cosmopolitan. For instance, there is a categorisation nightmare at the moment (1.1M uncategorized files in Category:Images from the Geograph British Isles project needing categories - 10% of all files on Commons), chipping away at that takes a lot of time and effort.

Commons categories are poor, and I'd love to see better support for languages as oppposed to just using English for everything by default. Following en.wikipedia without thinking here is not appropriate, and some of our own internal schemes are also a bit silly: Stripping prefixes off ship names makes sense (its language dependent), but why add a suffix of (ship, <date>) when the only thing of that topic name is one ship? Category:Voyager of the Seas (ship, 1999), is overly precise.

Nah, I was assuming things from reading briefly of the difference of opinions on that other talk page. I was frustrated several days ago with the T-38 Talon problem. Earlier than that, I saw that a German bot had suggested a category move of the name of a museum that is located in the Netherlands (I have been viewing many many videos from pre-1980 Netherlands lately, as they are here). The suggestion was to move the category from its real name into a category of its translated name. To me, that is just plain stupid. That it was a German bot that "made the suggestion" is perplexing to me but changing the "what we want" and the message of the template is a very simple software edit and that fact is annoying to me. None of this has anything to do with you that I know of, and I understand this. The other part of the stupid in this is that English wikipedia is using a translated name instead of its real name -- for the museum. Certainly the translation should appear in the article, but what if that article inspires a journey to the museum? What a pain to translate it back.

Unless things have changed, when taking foreign language courses in United States secondary education institutions, students are often given a translation of their names in the language that is being studied. Do you think that the tendency of English Wikipedia to translate proper nouns is related to this "high school-esque" assignment?

Also, did you laugh at all while reading my definition ;)

I do dislike the tendency to translate non-English to terms to English, simply because they are not English. One example here on Commons is one of our most unpopular policies: Commons:Freedom of Panorama. "Freedom of panorama" is a literal translation of panoramafreiheit. Panoramafreiheit is a well understood legal concept in German-language countries. The English translation was effectively made up when we first realised it was an issue. en.wikipedia actually realises this and uses the proper German phrase for its article.

The phrase "freedom of panorama" is starting to be used in mainstream works now (example), but I wonder if the origin of the phrase is the Wikimedia translation. That sounds like an research project for someone with an interest in etymology :)

With regards to the naming of things, we do use the English name in the absence of a better translation system, as there needs to be some logic somewhere and English is the de facto Commons language. But that should be "what the subject is called in English" not "the English translation of the subject's name", and there is an important distinction between the two: One example is Category:Kirche am Steinhof.

Well, you should tell me to what level I have perhaps offended you. The best I can glean from this experience is that the moment I completed the manual emptying of a category filled with 94 videos (and watching perhaps 75-80 of them) was euphoric. Kind of like a two drink drunk -- when you can drive a car on public roads with almost the same degree of safety as when completely sober, but there is a tendency to drive a little faster.

Typing about my overly large dict server is a great example of this. It isn't, actually, overly large. It only has a few dictionaries installed and is probably much smaller than what a distribution provides ;}

Best case scenario, a review the word "cosmopolitan" was initiated for no obvious reason.

Worst case, I think would be that I solely needed a review of the word and used your talk page to do this.

So, it is your call as to what level of offended that you have been and of how large my apology should be.

I really liked the video -- which is the seed at the root of this whole ordeal, fertilized by euphoria and word gaming which -- I laughed out loud for.

I am trying to formulate a sentence which would be about the level of irony making up for the lack of envy but I am unable to put words around this properly.

Please read Commons:Deletion policy#Duplicates (and for that matter Commons:File types). A PNG is different to a GIF because of the different file formats, and as PNG is generally preferred to GIF if anything should be deleted its the GIF. If there's some particular reason for preferring the GIF that should be discussed by community.

If an image is not "exactly the same" as another, it isn't eligible for speedy deletion (which is what {{Duplicate}} is for). That doesn't mean it can't be deleted, but then its deletion needs discussion via a deletion request. File:Stamp of Azerbaijan 303-310.jpg is not a duplicate of either of the images mentioned - as it cannot be replaced by one of those images. The two sets of stamps are not randomly lumped together, but have a natural association - they are included together at http://www.azermarka.az/en/1995.php for instance. That in turn means the composite image might have utility. That potential value is reason enough to require a full deletion request, and therefore {{Duplicate}} inappropriate.--Nilfanion (talk) 09:53, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

morgue

In United States, the word morgue is used to identify the room where the recently departed are taken to be identified, cause of death determined and/or temporary storage until family can be found to determine what to do next. Never having participated in the details of this process, here in the United States, this process involves a funeral home and eventually a cemetery or mausoleum.

It has become apparent to me that "the queens English" uses a different word for "Morgue" than her religious bastards versioning of it uses.

Do they have rooms like this in England and if so, what are they called?

Long time Editor, first time caller

Hey.

I have been on Wiki for years and still turn to jelly when it comes to images. I'm so wary about getting citations and copyright and all that sort of thing done correctly. As you can see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_Council_election,_2011) I've added a modified version of your blank ward map [which are, incidentally, superb]. I've plastered your name wherever I thought it was necessary to prove it's one of your maps which I've altered, but can you have a look to make sure I've done it right? It's one of the blank spots with me, just so worried about getting image use right!

Re:Lymington

Hi, thanks for letting me know that you reverted the addition of Category:Lymington to the Category:Towns and villages in the New Forest I had created. The thing is a bit of a mess precisely because there are three different definitions of the New Forest. FWIW, parts of Lymington parish (or more accurately "Lymington and Pennington") are within the National Park boundary of the New Forest, but the town itself isn't - so I'm not sure it was actually wrong for me to put it in the category. But as I said - it's my fault for making such as ill-defined category. The National Park is actually larger than the historic Royal boundary of the New Forest (which is still in existence and is still marked on OS maps along with the National Park boundary). Maybe I ought to scrap it and use Category:Towns and villages in the New Forest district instead? Singinglemon (talk) 21:50, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

Category:Village greens in Chelmsford

Well "Village greens in Chelmsford" literally means "Village greens" in "Chelmsford" not "Village greens" in "Chelmsford (borough)". If the content is actually for the borough, it should be moved to the appropriately named category (via use of a temp cat redirect, Cat-a-Lot, whatever). In such cases, its probably easier to move everything and work out what to move back again at a later date.

The fact the content is in the wrongly named category doesn't mean it should stay there.

As for the Manchester ones same applies - if its about "Manchester", call it "Manchester". If its about the City (is a real difference at all - WP doesn't make that distinction?), call it "City of Manchester". Please explain

You say that the non-commercial restriction is irrelevant in this and a related edit. This is in direct contradiction with Commons:Licensing which says "Wikimedia Commons accepts only free content, that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose". Those images cannot be used for "anyone, anytime, for any purpose" as they have not been explicitly released into the public domain and the National Library of Ireland doesn't allow commerical use without permission. In addition as I attempted to explain the "No known copyright restrictions [?]" on Flickr links directly to this which explains that "The Library's images within The Commons have no known copyright restrictions; this means that the National Library of Ireland is not aware of any current copyright restrictions on the photographs, usually because the Library owns the copyright or the term of copyright has expired", then further details the prohibition on commercial use. 109.158.115.63 11:38, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

To quote the conditions on Flickr:

"...The Library's images within The Commons have no known copyright restrictions; this means that the National Library of Ireland is not aware of any current copyright restrictions on the photographs, usually because the Library owns the copyright or the term of copyright has expired.

Images in our Commons photostream are available for research for a non-commercial purpose or private study...".

The important phrase there is "have no known copyright restrictions". If an image has no copyright restrictions, then it is in the public domain. If the work is in the public domain, you cannot restrict it to NC use only, as the copyright doesn't exist to allow such a restriction. Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag describes a similar situation where institutions attempt to enclose the Public Domain, there its by asserting that they have copyright over it (a much stronger claim).

It is unlikely that the Library owns the copyright to these specific images. If you beleive that is the case, you can file a normal deletion request, but speedy will be inappropriate.

The Library's use of no known copyright restrictions is fully explained by clicking on the phrase in question, which is a direct link to the Library's explanation of exactly what is meant by that phrase. I do not see how the assertion can be made that they are public domain when the library also say "usually because the Library owns the copyright", but I will create normal deletion requests for the infringing images. 109.158.115.63 11:56, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

The "no known copyright restrictions" I quote above comes from their explanation not the simple phrase on Flickr. The full explanation states: "usually because the Library owns the copyright or the term of copyright has expired". That does not mean that usually "Library owns the copyright", but sometimes "the term of copyright has expired". It means either "library owns copyright" or "the term of copyright has expired", but it may be something else. I don't know if this is any help but some months ago (5 July 2011) I uploaded a photo belonging to the National Library of Scotland labelled "no known copyright restrictions" and then later noticed that commercial use was forbidden. I took it down and wrote to the Library and pointed this out. It threw them into some confusion. After some weeks they replied again suggesting (because it was their intent that such images should be available through Flickr and Wiki Commons) I just leave the image there (it looks as if Zoofari re-uploaded it) and we would all see what happened next! Getting File:Monmouthshire UK location map.svg to appear in infobox castle

Can I ask for some help with getting a map to appear in infobox castle? I believe you uploaded File:Monmouthshire UK location map.svg which appears on en:Monmouth. I am trying to get the same map onto en:Monmouth Castle (I'm playing with it at en:User:Rodw/Sandbox/Monmouth Castle) but it doesn't seem to appear. The same issue has been identified on en:Raglan Castle so the Wales map has been used. The syntax is the same as on en:Dunster Castle where the Somerset map appears - so I'm having real problems trying to work out what the issue is. Peak District map

Hi, sorry, this is a complaint. I love maps and I think you do too. My complaint is that as a foreigner I find the map in the infobox on the Peak District article to be completely meaningless except it tells me the shape of the National Park. Is it possible to add any major towns or cities that are by the Park and give some idea of the locality (beyond its placing in the middle of England)? Yes I guess the blue marks may be motorways and I know I can go to Google Maps and start guessing but it would be much nicer to just see the location (literally) in the infobox. Can I help anyhow?

OK, this stems from the map being used for a purpose that its not designed for. The point of the Peak District map is to be used as a blank background map, in conjunction with w:Template:Location map, to illustrate locations within the Peak District. See how File:Lake District National Park UK location map.svg is used in w:Scafell Pike.

Its not really designed to illustrate the Peak District itself, as you point out, all it really tells you is its general location and shape. However, it is the only map in Category:Peak District that shows the whole thing, which is why the editors there chose to use it.

Labels could be added through careful use of w:Template:Geobox's features. eg File:Greater Fatra (SVK) - location map.svg and File:Slovakia demis.png are overlain at w:Template:Geobox/sample. Alternatively, labels could be added to a derivative map. That would ideally be done as an SVG using Inkscape or similar software. I may get round to doing that eventually with this map, but it isn't likely to be a personal priority (I hate the labelling process!).--Nilfanion (talk) 21:43, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

I've tweaked your Glasgow map to reflect the completion of the M80 and M74 motorways, and accompanying de-prioritization of the old A80 and A74 routes. Hope I've managed to get everything all right!

Uploading regional maps

How did you go about uploading the North East/North West 2011 ward maps? I'd put the timing-out problem I have when uploading via DerivativeFX down to their large filesize, but looking at your blank maps they're the same. I've only just figured out how to work DerivativeFX, so that might be where I'm going wrong, but it generally seems to work until I go to upload, and then I get redirected back to the Commons front page with a message at the top telling me it couldn't be uploaded/timed-out and that I should sign-out and back in again. The maps do not show B-roads, as that would be info overload (there's ~20 B roads in that area), and just including the one would be inappropriate. The absence of a good colour for B-roads is a hindrance too..--Nilfanion (talk) 12:10, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Please do not delete my files. It's not the Aboriginal flag and it's not used as such or in such context. It's a trivial work, made in Poland, by a citizen of Poland (me), depicting a simple banner with a "sun disc". I actually and accidently intend to use it on my Commons user page. This design might be copyrighted somewhere (Australia...), but it's legal status as indicated with a PD template is an undisputed fact. It's in PD in my country and in US, so it goes along Commons guidelines (free in the country of origin and US). Moreover, just to make possible re-users aware of the fact that it might by (c) under some jurisdictions, I put some warning templates into it. If you still think that this file is not PD, please start del. req. and justify why you think it is not an image of simple geometry is ineligible for copyright in Poland and US and why you think it's the Aboriginal flag. Thank you.

Also, I would propose to be a little bit more flexible. As, for example, we are with the "sweat of the brow" doctrine, which (apparently) dissallow to put on Commons faithful 2D reproduction of PD materials, which were created in UK. This example was given while discussing deletion of the Aboriginal flag, along with the proposal to put warning templates into the file description. Anyway, this is slightly off topic, because we are not talking about the Aboriginal flag anymore. Or, do you really think, that because of one (c) file in Australia, all more or less similar depictions should be banned from Commons, because its close enough to the original to be useful to illustrate the "Aboriginal Flag" ? Because according to this interpretation any file that one puts into this article, will be automatically "close enough" and will "illustrate". Even black and white description. And why I'm not starting undel. procedure is, because clearly one (precisely speaking: you) person imposed his interpretation on all participants of del. req. discussion, while we were far from reaching a concordant point of view. So, why to bother and try to undo this? Apparently you know better and your decision is more important. Compare it with a possible scenario, in which I (as a Commons admin) decide to leave the file, instead of deleting it ;) In my humble opinion, such issues, which are certainly not trivial, shouldn't be decided single-handed (as the "sweat of the brow" was not). Come on! You were clearly using it as the Aboriginal flag. You used your original upload to represent the Aboriginal flag in two articles on plwiki. When consensus decided to delete the image because it was copyrighted, you then immediately re-uploaded it and added it to your userpage to make a point about copyright policies. Its the same file. If File:Example.jpg is deleted by a deletion request, I can't reupload an identical file at File:This is not Example.jpg.jpg and say its a "different" file - so should be deleted. It may be at a different location, but its still the same image and consensus on Commons has already established its unsuitable. In this case File:Black and red flag with yellow disc.svg and File:Black-red-flag-yellow-circle.svg are identical files, created by the same person. They are the same image, and as the first was deleted via a DR and the second is an identical copy - its eligible for speedy deletion as a copy of content deemed ineligible for Commons by a discussion.

BTW, I'm of the opinion that the SVG isn't strictly your own work (I can't prove that of course). It shares almost all of its coding with the file by ZScout370 on en - differing only in the SVG comment (modified to suit your POV) and a subtle change of colours (that doesn't change its appearance). If it was independently derived without reference to the Aboriginal flag why would the code be all but identical to en.wp's image?--Nilfanion (talk) 11:35, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
