This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Adamite_sur_goethite_(Maroc).jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. __ ABF __ ϑ 16:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Using your images of minerals edit

Hi and thanks for uploading so many amazing photographs of minerals and crystals. Thank you also for making them freely available - as you say "The copyright holder of this work allows anyone to use it for any purpose including unrestricted redistribution, commercial use, and modification."

I would like to use a few of your images as background on pages in a magazine soon to be printed. Would you like me to print your name in the magazine as the photographer? Something like "Mineral photographs by Parent Géry". Let me know your preference please within the next week before it goes to print...

Thank you. -- Euchiasmus (talk) 20:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Hello Géry PARENT!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 22:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lupo 12:38, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello Parent Géry, I hope, you can understand english (otherwise I could write in german), because I have one question about this picture. Are you shure, that this is an opale? I think, that it is a fire agate (feu d'agate?). Look at Category:Fire agate, please. There are more of them and with the same appearance. greetings and by the way your pictures are really wonderful and I hope, you have more of them :-) -- Ra'ike T C 12:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you.

File:Cavancites_sur_heulandite_(Inde).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Retouched diamond images edit

Hello Parent Géry. I noticed that several of your images of diamonds (File:Diamants maclés 2(République d'Afrique du Sud).jpg, File:Diamants (Vénézuéla, République d'Afrique du Sud).jpg, and File:Diamants maclés (République d'Afrique du Sud).jpg) have been edited (parts of them appear 'painted' black). I have added the retouched template to each of them--if you could describe what you did to the images it would be helpful. I also have two more questions:

  • did you place the diamonds on the kimberlite to take the photos, or are the diamonds in situ (sitting in the kimberlite the way they were found?)
  • did you wet the diamonds when taking the photos?

Thanks, - Gump Stump (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour,

P.S. : le minéral de la photographie Vanadinite_sur_goethite_(Maroc) n'est-il pas plutôt une aragonite ?

ton demande de suppression edit

Hello Parent Géry, I hope you can read english, too (it's too hard for me, to look for every french word in the dictionary). File:Citrine_(Brésil).jpg is deleted, but File:Apatite_violette1_Pakistan.jpg and File:Apatite_violette2_Pakistan.jpg are marked with {{Rename}}, to give them a correct name. Please use the next one the template {{Bad name|le nom correct du fichier}}, if your picture are wrong named. cordialement -- Ra'ike T C 20:18, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please use the correct date format edit

Hi Géry PARENT,

Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you mentioned a date on File:Topaze champagne sur quartz (Afghanistan) 2 .jpg. Please know that in order for dates to be automatically detected and translated into other languages it needs to be in the YYYY-MM-DD format (ie. 2024-01 for January 2024 or 2024-04-24 for 24 April 2024). Also, for other (less specific) dates use {{Other date}} for centuries, ranges, 'circa' etc. like this: {{other date|between|1899|1903}} for "between 1899 and 1903

date QS:P,+1500-00-00T00:00:00Z/6,P1319,+1899-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1326,+1903-00-00T00:00:00Z/9

". This way the dates will be translated internally into the user's language preference. I've fixed it for you here. See for example the result in French: here. Thanks again. –Krinkletalk 03:06, 7 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

When you have give a wrong (incorrect) file-name, when you have upload a file. Upload with a new (correct) file-name. Than you can speed-deledet wrong file with {{Badname|new-file-name}}.

Mirgolth (talk) 04:27, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

You have files that have no reason given for renaming - it would help if you could put a reason in, rather than just ' on the reason section http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Incomplete_media_renaming_requests - SatuSuro (talk) 14:21, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Renommage de fichiers edit

Bonjour,

:-) Salutations, Grand-Duc (talk) 02:22, 1 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Don't populate the meta category minerals, it should be empty. Thx. --Chris.urs-o (talk) 06:34, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It isn't [[RENAME:Topaze cognac (Pakistan)]], it's a template. This is correct, the synthaxis is important: {{Rename|Topaze cognac (Pakistan)|wrong name}}. Regards --Chris.urs-o (talk) 15:21, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Dear Parent Géry, take more care with your edits, please. Voluntary work is rare and holy. It isn't good when you irritate people here.
  • Write more in the description (you use the {{fr|1=example}} template), please. The Category:Mineral collections is actually a meta category, it isn't helpful to categorize "Mineral collections" without telling with collection do you mean (Category:Mineral collections isn't for images of one piece of stone with many minerals).

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Please do NOT over-categorize your images edit

Hi Parent Géry, unfortunately you tend to over-categorize your images. For instance in your File:Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus, 1758) - colonie.jpg

For further categorizing instructions I urgently suggest to read Commons:Categories, particularly paragraph Over-categorization. -- Ies (talk) 15:11, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Rename requests edit

I'm seeing quite a few of your files in Category:Incomplete media renaming requests. Can you go through these and give complete new names, etc? Thanks. INeverCry 19:24, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rename requests edit

I went through your most recent rename requests and did the majority of them. There were a few problems though:

1. You need to fill in the criterion number in the rename request template like this: {{rename|new name|1}}. The 1 indicates an uploader request and places the file in the right category, Category:Media requiring renaming. If you leave out the 1, the file is placed in Category:Incomplete media renaming requests, where it's less likely to get the attention of filemovers, especially new and inexperienced ones.

2. I declined about 20 of your rename requests because there were already files with the names you suggested. In most cases this was because you didn't provide the proper sequence number. I declined the rename request and removed the rename template in order to prevent other file movers from trying and failing to do the same renames, and because filemovers shouldn't have to take the time to find the right new name or sequence number for you. You must do this yourself. INeverCry 08:36, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

As I've shown you above, please place a 1 at the end of the request so it categorizes properly: {{rename|new name|1}}. INeverCry 08:52, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Blocked edit

I've blocked your account for 1 day. You need to use the rename request procedure properly, otherwise you're being disruptive and causing problems for other users. You need to atleast discuss your actions. I see that you've been warned and questioned about this several times in English and French in the past, which can be seen in the old messages above. It's not ok to make others do more work because you refuse to use the proper procedure, and it's not ok to ignore messages/warnings. I've asked a fellow admin who speaks French to look at this issue: User talk:PierreSelim#Your help pls. Fellow admins: feel free to remove the block if you disagree with it or if a solution is found quickly, which would be great. Thanks. INeverCry 09:27, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the email. I've mentioned it to Pierre. Hopefully he'll have time to explain things in French soon. INeverCry 23:56, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

--PierreSelim (talk) 06:46, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Blocked edit

Today you continued with the same abuse of {{Rename}}. You placed {{rename|hiddenite|}} on 3 seperate files. You should know by now that 3 files can't be renamed to the same name, which is something you've done repeatedly and been warned/questioned about repeatedly. Filemovers shouldn't have to fix your renames for you. The rename procedure and guidelines have been explained to you multiple times in French and English. You refuse to discuss this, and you continue with the behavior. You need to use rename requests properly, which is extremely simple, or not use them at all. INeverCry 23:10, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Info If you wish to respond to this or discuss it, please do so here on you talk, rather tha emailing me again. There are numerous complaints about your behavior above, and you haven't reponded to any of them. INeverCry 23:18, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your uploader requests edit

Hi Parent Géry, whenever I see gems, pearls, precious stones renaming requests, I know that it is you. Good contribs. However, often your rename requests are of same name, which makes our task of complying them difficult. I suggest you plan it this way - x(1).jpg, x(2).jpg, x(3).jpg - where x could be any precious stone and this will make our renaming easy. Thanks for your uploads once again, Hindustanilanguage (talk) 16:01, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

You were blocked already before because of your behaviour. Over years you are not learned how to ask for rename files in a correct way. This is causing needless work for others and did not help at the end. Please inform you in the next 3 days about how the things work here. Wikimedia projects only work, when the contributors learn and work together. Marcus Cyron (talk) 00:20, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you want you can delete all my files, no problem, you're not alone hosts pictures on the internet. Deign to answer me this time?

Re your email edit

Hi Parent Géry. Looking at your talk page indicates to me why you emailed. <ouch>

Renames need to take place through the template, and you will need to tag them. Unfortunately doing otherwise is just too difficult. I am comfortable working with you to get these right. The instructions for use of the template is at Template:Rename and you will note that there are a number of required parameters.

I see four files of relevance

so we would need to have the templates be something like

{{rename|your proposed name[1..4].jpg|1|erreurs dans les identifications}}

1 (one) is for "uploader request", though we could have used 3 (three) for "correct misleading names into accurate ones" as shown at Template:Rename

If you are comfortable with my instructions, then please apply them to the files.

If you are still not sure, then how about you add the proposed rename requests here, and I can check them before they are applied. To get my attention, please use the template {{ping|billinghurst}} and that will come through my notifications. I hope that helps.    — billinghurst sDrewth 01:25, 4 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Global account edit

Hi Parent Géry! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:24, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Commons:File renaming - Criterions edit

If you rename your own uploads, you should use Criterion #1. Read the table on Commons:File renaming page, please ;-)
The proper template is:
{{rename|Kabukicho along Yasukuni Street, Shinjuku, Tokyo, 2011-03-20 (by Peter Stewart).jpg|3|This location is not {{C|Akihabara}}, but {{C|Kabukichō, Tokyo}}. For details, see Note on description.}}
{{rename| ''new name'' | ''the number of the Criterion'' | ''verbal explanation''}}
for example: {{rename|Afghanite UVL.jpg|1|typo}}
Instead of that => it's impossible to get a "jpeg" extension. It's automatically changed => jpg. Have a nice day :-) Wieralee (talk) 22:38, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

File renaming edit

Hi Géry PARENT,

you have nominated some of your uploaded images for renaming. For about twenty of them from Category:Spodumene you have chosen the same file name. It is not possible to rename the files that way. If you want to rename 20 files, you have to give 20 different file names. Every image needs to have its unique name. Also if you are the uploader it would be better to use reason 1. --Andreas Stiasny (talk) 13:52, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Salutations --Fridolin freudenfett (talk) 11:27, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello, as suggested above please use rationale 1 for remaning requests about files you have uploaded. The files in Category:Media requiring renaming - rationale 1 gets processed a lot faster. Let alone the rationale 3 is quite puzzling or even plainly wrong for several of your requests. Regards, Cavarrone (talk) 10:33, 23 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
