QI edit

Mvh--Ankara (talk) 14:57, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ah. Missade den punkten. Tack för tipset.

Revisiting 17th century Sweden?? edit

Peter, I would be interested in helping out with a map or two for your series of articles. Would an overall map showing the battle locations be a good start? What are your plans?? MapMaster (talk) 15:19, 2 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Peter, greetings. I have just returned from a sabbatical and thought I would check on your plans for this series of articles. Any update? MapMaster (talk) 14:37, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've been rather busy with real life, but I've at least done some work on some of the naval articles: en:Kronan (ship), en:Battle of Öland and en:battle of Bornholm (1676). The two former are going to be featured as DYKs on en.wiki tomorrow morning.

Bakstam edit

Hejsan!

interview with an editor/censorer of wiki commons edit

Hello, I have a few questions regarding what is (in your opinion) going on here.

Unfortunately, I am only able to clearly state the fact that I have some questions and I am unable to form those questions into words which are neither offensive nor defensive -- neither quality which these questions possess.

This is the best that I am able to do, please consider it to be neither offensive or defensive regardless of how it might make you feel.

Are you afraid (having fears/shyness to communicate with other individuals) to use wiki talk pages/contact people who are active (active in this case would mean having logged into the commons and contributed positive edits or uploads in the last 48 hours) on the commons before editing their descriptions? -- Queeg (talk) 01:23, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

(Warning - Full Disclosure, this is an Assumption of Good Faith -- proof one way or another will be provided by you) -- Queeg (talk) 01:25, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Is there some background story or essential context I should be aware of here?

"...I have a few questions regarding what is (in your opinion) going on here." -- Queeg (talk) 21:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, then the answer is simply "dunno". If you want anything more than that, I'd like you to explain what this is actually about.

Soviet propaganda film from 1940 about the youth camp Artek (11m 10s).
Skinny dipping, shooting and singing while boating -- mostly while garbed in crisp white uniforms. Stalin's summer camp in 1940 was awesome (11m 10s).
Please review my attempt to express the question. "Are you shy/afraid to communicate with people who are active here? -- Queeg (talk) 21:44, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay, we have something concrete to discuss then. Do you feel that there's a problem with my changing the description of that file? If so, please specify it.
Peter Isotalo 21:50, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is a great question. My question is about the reason you did not ask that question on August 5, when you made the edit. Thank you for showing that you do know how to communicate about edits. What are the reasons you did not ask that question when you edited the templates? -- Queeg (talk) 21:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Given your willingness and ability to respond here and ask the right question, albeit at the wrong time; I am going to give this proof a limit of 24 hours before it receives an end of proof. Not answering this question is the proof required to show that User:Peter Isotalo was not acting in good faith. -- Queeg (talk) 22:57, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what your experiences of Commons are, but no user I know of expects to be contacted for discussion every time one of their contributions are edited. It's not required either by policy or by any unwritten laws of etiquette. And this does not strike me as anything particularly controversial.
I've been trying to be polite to you by attempting to lead the discussion towards something substantial, but you insist on asking leading questions and giving me ultimatums to prove my innocence and good faith. I'm quite willing to discuss actual edits, so please stick to that instead of trying to interrogate me.
Peter Isotalo 06:20, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

The edit of yours that brought me here was an edit to what is presented on the Main Page; others, people perhaps who understand complicated ideas like collaboration and working together and community have had no problem discussing changes to the content that appears on the Main Page. My questions about your inability to discussion edits to the Main Page are more timely than your attempt to discuss it now, 10 days later.

This is not an interrogation, it is my Assumption of Good Faith. As all assumptions that I or anyone else makes about the methods and motives of others, it is only a guess until proven one way or another. A willingness to discuss what you think your role is when making edits to the Main Page should be a quality that a contributor to that particular page possesses before deciding to edit the content there.

Also, I was ready to compliment you on your ability to avoid answering timely questions until you used the word "interrogation". To me, using it in this situation is a little like screaming "Fire" in a crowded darkened room when there is no fire and you know it. No compliments for this exchange.

I am requesting that you limit your edits here at the Commons to those pages where collaboration, working together and the ability to see the potential of an interesting discussion of timely facts is not so important -- for example: Main Page. I am unable to enforce this. I know that, I assume that you know this also. It is a request that I am personally making of you. (perhaps if necessary, my "proof" can be used to find enforcement, how boring, dreary and not what I am wanting to do much of here though). -- Queeg (talk) 07:52, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

PS, I am very sorry that you did not ask this question of me when you should have. That was a far more interesting question and it deserved to have been asked. -- Queeg (talk) 07:53, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
This is a collaborative project and I've never heard of any rule, written or unwritten, that says edits of this oblige me to contact the original contributor and discuss an edit like this beforehand. Even if we're talking about future Main Page material. I believe my edit was constructive, useful and reasonably uncontroversial, since the original file description was rather subjective and bordered on the whimsical. It was technically correct, but I didn't feel it was appropriate for Commons. If you feel different, please elaborate.
Since it seems that you're not really satisfied with my answers here, perhaps you should ask some outside party for input on the matter. Either way, I don't see that I've done anything wrong.

Putin audio file edit

194.28.238.3 10:05, 14 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

That "r" in "Vladimir" is not really palatalized, it is just more front; in Russian the "ER" sound (/r/) is actually retracted /r̠/ (not retroflex, though). But that does not change the fact that it's very close to, but not ENTIRELY correct. --Wlad Sokolowskiy (talk) 16:47, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

A kitten for you! edit

While reading about Carl Linnaeus I saw a speaker icon, clicked on it, and was directed to a page with a voice playback of the correct pronunciation of his name. When I clicked the right arrow, It sounded his name, which pleased me very much. I wanted to have it sound again but could never get it to work. I tried 'refreshing' the page. I went back and started again from the original Carl Linnaeus page, found the arrow again, and clicked on it again, but your pronunciation did not play for either situation. I thank you for the effort you spent creating this nice feature, but I do not know who to tell about the 'man-machine-interface' problem. For what it is worth, I was using the Mozilla Firefox browser, operating in a Windows 7 environment.

Hello Peter, I saw you created some nice recordings of pronuntiations of Lenin and Trotsky. I have been enlarging some articles in the Spanish wikipedia and wonder if you could do the same for I would like to add them to the articles if you would not mind recording the right pronuntiation for these names too. Thank you!--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 11:10, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hallandia edit

Hello! Orally, many educated Britons and Americans and Canadians use Hallandia rather than Halland as a method of distinguishing clearly that they do not mean Holland. I just thought you might like to know that, in case you ever see it again in English text. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 02:19, 27 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think that's pretty much the point I was trying to make: rarely, if ever, used. Pseudo-Latin names for Swedish provinces makes as much sense as calling Holland "Batavia".
Peter Isotalo 08:58, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Showing a dismissive side, you don't seem to be the slightest bit interested in my experience or views, but if by chance you are, you might want to have a look at this to understand where I'm coming from. Avoiding phonetic confusion is always a good idea, in principle, and I'm not that interested in frequency when it comes to that goal. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 10:26, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Btw re: "rarely, if ever, used" - have you Googled "Hallandia" lately? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 10:36, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not being dismissive, just pointing out that it's a minority view which isn't well-suited to Wikimedia projects. Googling doesn't exactly confirm your point as the top hits are names of something other than the province.
Peter Isotalo 12:18, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
My point? What point? The obly points I made here are that "many educated Britons and Americans and Canadians use Hallandia rather than Halland as a method of distinguishing clearly that they do not mean Holland" and "Avoiding phonetic confusion is always a good idea, in principle"- I don't really know why we're discussing anything else. After all, I didn't revert your edit, and this is not the article's talk page.
What is disproven by Googling, unless you only go by "the top hits", which I can't see as relevant to your claim, is "rarely, if ever, used. Pseudo-Latin names for Swedish provinces" (my bolds). --SergeWoodzing (talk) 13:16, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

campain edit

Because I would see how far are you going with your POV campain.--Bramfab (talk) 14:36, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Because you are POV pushing, acting as POV pusher, the (worlwide) general consensus (that does non imply 100% of people) is that those pictures are good for wikipedia and can be used in the article, they are notable and relevant (if you like or not they becomes a piece of the history of photography as the first selfie of pope with children) and are selfie (selfie is a new-word coming from internet as comes from the internet the inclusion of these monkey selfies in the selfie category!).
You can argue against these for months in a on forum, but in wiki we are in case of black/white (binary) condition (take or reject those) and you have to accept the consensus decision and not damage the encyclopedia with destructive edits. --Bramfab (talk) 16:34, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is the story. It's not up to you to force something against WP:CONSENSUS. Until this consensus will not change, please respect the decisions of the community and don't start edit wars. --L736E (talk) 13:14, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Idea for you edit

Since I like your IPA pronunciations, I have tried to make fictional name pronunciations from them, such as /spɑŋ!ɪθ/ (I have trouble with my own). Unfortunately, I had to borrow the /ɪ/ from by User:Denelson83. Can you make files with your pronunciation of the vowels other than /ɑ/? Or better yet, try to create a simple IPA text-to-speech editor with your voice (and you can enlist someone else's help if you want). 76.120.207.170 17:59, 12 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Combining speech files in such a way is bound to produce some very unnatural results as far as I know. You might want to suggest the idea at Commons:Village pump, though.
I might touch up the pronunciation files sometime in the future if I get better recording equipment. I think it would be a waste of time with the tools I have right now.

Your edit on LRR edit

I reverted your edit. This is a closed request for license reviewer status. Do not make edits to it. If you disagree you should talk to the admin directly (on admins takpage). Regards --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:15, 27 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just to be extra clear and public, I would appreciate if you don't engage with me in this way again. Your appear to be mostly interested in chiding me over formalities and you staunchly refuse any and all constructive discussion.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Solna Dead Link edit

On your profile, it says Solna is a dead link (as of 19:16, 9 March 2019 (UTC)). I would recommend you linked to here instead. --Mullafacation (talk) 19:16, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Let's hope someone gets encouraged to create a page about it here instead. Anyways, I live in Bandhagen these days, so thanks reminding me. ^_^

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open! edit

Dear Peter Isotalo,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

A cupcake for you! edit

Thanks so much for your valuable collection of images of undergarments and the human body! I'm working on the w:Cleavage (breasts) article to reduce porn-y male-gaze images and there are so few useful, neutral images of bras etc. on Commons! Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:25, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

File:Den Nya och Fullständiga Kok-Boken-1801.djvu edit

Hej!

Peter Isotalo 08:06, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
