Commons-l subscriptionEdit

Hello Plugwash,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:12, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Admin newsEdit

Hello,

If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)

Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!

cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:33, 7 September 2006 (UTC) P.S.: Pardon if this is a repeat (bot debugging...)

Category:TestredirectcattoimageEdit

Hi, does your category Category:Testredirectcattoimage have any use, or should it be deleted? --121.73.5.55 08:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I created it for a bug report about poor handling of cross namespace redirects. Since that bug was closed some time ago i think it can be safely deleted. Plugwash 19:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
almost forgot, i am still an admin here (though i kind of lost interest after we stopped having a usable list of images that had copyright tags but no other categories). Ive now deleted it. Plugwash 19:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Administrative noticeEdit

Deutsch

Hi. This message is sent out to you because you are an administrator on Commons, and you made little use (or no use) of the admin tools lately: less than 5 times in the last five months.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a poll among users). According to that policy, admins who use their tools infrequently will be asked whether they still need their adminship, and if they do not respond or require them the removal of the tools will be requested.

If you feel you still need your admin tools, please sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days from the date this message was sent out. However, if you then don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will lose the adminship without any notice.

This is not a comment on the considerable help you have given to the project in the past but reflects the wish of the community to see active administrators and to ensure that possible security breaches are minimized.

This message is sent out by bot. If you want to give feedback on it, you can do so here — 08:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Plugwash~commonswiki!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Please help replace this outdated licenseEdit

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

BotMultichillT 21:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing these to my attention. The first one has already been deleted for some reason and I don't remember anything about it (though from the name it seems likely I only transferred or modified it). The second one is a hybrid image and one of the base images was deleted due to unclear permissions, I will sort this by rebuilding it with that base image replaced. The remaining two are things I transferred from en wikipedia (there are a number of other images in that same series too which are likely to have the same problem) and both look like they might also be problematic due to unclear permission (IIRC chamaeleon got permission from the site he copied them from but the text of that permission wasn't hugely clear on the exact licensing details). Since these weren't the best quality images to start with replacement would probablly be the way to go. We have lots of pics of the BS1363, we have at least one other picture of the Israeli socket but it dipicts a slightly different variant.
It doesn't help that the english wikipedia admins had a habbit of deleting images after transfer and thereby effectively deleting the pre-commons history. Plugwash (talk) 01:36, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:G_plug.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:G_plug.png) and the above demanded information in your request.

Kelly (talk) 08:37, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

See the section above, I only transferred this from en to commons. Chameleon got the permission but I agree it wasn't particually clear on the specifics. I have no interest in chasing this up if someone else wants to chase it up then fine but IMO it's probablly easier just to replace it. Plugwash (talk) 14:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
P.S. IIRC the permission email can be found somewhere in the talk archives of en:AC power plugs and sockets but I doubt it would meet wikipedias modern standards so i'm not going to bother digging it out. Plugwash (talk) 14:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Cygnus cygnus from zh.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Yours sincerely, JuTa 22:14, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
