Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!

Dear Poppo154,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Flickr2Commons

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first"). Beste Edoderoo, op alle defensie.nl websites is van toepassing: https://www.defensie.nl/copyright (CC0). NIMH heeft nog extra vermeld staan "Met ingang van 25 juli 2018 is de online beeldcollectie van het Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie (NIMH) vrij beschikbaar. Dit betekent dat er voor het downloaden en het gebruik van deze beelden niet meer betaald hoeft te worden" (https://nimh-beeldbank.defensie.nl/bestellen-downloaden). Ik zie nu conform https://nimh-beeldbank.defensie.nl/gebruiksvoorwaarden dat ik de bronvermelding wel moet aanpassen. Mijn inziens kunnen de afbeeldingen blijven, mocht je er anders over denken hoor ik het graag.

Hiermee is wel aannemelijk gemaakt dat deze foto/serie onder een CC0 valt. Wel vind ik het bezwaarlijk dat je een sjabloon op de afbeelding plakt, waarmee je suggereert dat een OTRS-er de toestemming heeft gecontroleerd, want dat is niet het geval. Een OTRS-er zou deze afbeelding met de vorige verwijzing dan ook niet accepteren. Ik zou je daarom adviseren om het mindef-sjabloon niet (zelf) op afbeeldingen te plaatsen, want dat sjabloon hoort bij toestemming die door iemand anders dan jou is gegeven. Dag, Poppo154. Kleine opmerking bij je verwijdering van bovengenoemd bestand uit Category:Image overwrites by Jan Arkesteijn for independent review. Misschien is het per abuis gebeurd, omdat je een categorie voor de persoon hebt aangemaakt, maar anders roept het een paar vragen op. Ten eerste is de upload van Arkesteijn duidelijk een andere afdruk van de foto: de eerdere upload heeft niet alleen een andere kleur, maar toont links ook een stukje meer van het uniform en op de cap ontbreekt een reflectie op de band. Persoonlijk zou ik deze twee uploads niet als identiek beschouwen. Belangrijker echter, is dat de upload van Arkesteijn mogelijk door Arkesteijn is bewerkt, wat precies de reden is dat de onderhoudscategorie is aangemaakt. Helaas, maar bij Arkesteijn niet ongebruikelijk, is er geen bron gegeven voor zijn upload (noch het overschreven bestand). Het lijkt er echter veel op, dat Arkesteijns upload een crop is van File:Overste Versteegh, Bestanddeelnr 900-8222.jpg, maar gezien de datum dus voordat dat bestand op Commons verscheen. Als dat inderdaad zo is, dan heeft Arkesteijn de foto geretoucheerd, en de bestandspagina zou dus een retouche-sjabloon moeten krijgen. Zo is die onderhoudscategorie bedoeld: er dient te worden gekeken of er iets aan de hand is met de afbeelding, want Arkesteijn heeft duizenden afbeeldingen naar eigen inzicht en (soms verschrikkelijke) smaak aangepast, zonder aan te geven dat de upload afwijkt van de bron.

Een verzoek dus om iets voorzichtiger te zijn met het verwijderen van Category:Image overwrites by Jan Arkesteijn for independent review, of anders althans ook daadwerkelijk en effectief te reviewen, anders is die categorie nutteloos. Vriendelijke groet, Eissink (talk) 14:01, 17 January 2021 (UTC).
