Category:Illustrated Handscroll of The Tale of Genji edit

hello there, I have put your great images of the Genji here Category:Illustrated Handscroll of The Tale of Genji and added some information. Do you have more images that you could contribute? That would be greatly appreciated... sincerely Gryffindor 02:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. The quality of some of the images however is not so good, for example Image:Genji emaki HASHIHIME.jpg seems to be of lower quality than Image:Genji emaki SAWARABI.jpg, which is of good quality. Why is there such a difference and is it possible to improve it? Gryffindor 00:10, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
They are really nice images and a tragedy what happened. If it is possible to upload any such images to Commons, go right ahead, but only if they are public domain. Gryffindor 23:13, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
These are not existing digitised images. I've digitised. Please remark such comments on images which I uploaded. If possible, I will be able to improve it. ReijiYamashina 04:02, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hm, I found the old version of [1] much better than the new [2] one, because the colours are more true... sorry to say. Gryffindor 21:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Color Correction is difficult. Ten years passed, since I appreciated original paintings in GOTOH MUSEUM, so I cannot check directly. But new versions be closer to the reproduction book. Recently I digitise 36poets collection. ReijiYamashina 00:31, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, ReijiYamashina!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I added Category on it, thanks ReijiYamashina (talk) 23:12, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for correcting the image description of File:Yellow Fudō.jpg and sorry for my carelessnes in assuming that it is the scroll from Mii-dera. Probably also the mention of National Treasure in the image description and category should be removed then?! Do you know if the Manshu-in scroll has the same dimensions as the Mii-dera painting and if it is "color on silk"? I also noticed your contribution of very useful pictures of Japanese art. Thanks for that. I am trying to find pictures of all National Treasures of Japan (currently paintings at List of National Treasures of Japan (paintings)) but pictures of 3D art (sculptures, etc) are hard to come by in a suitable license. Do you have more pictures like those of Ashura or the Kudara Kannon? bamse (talk) 08:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just realized that also the Manshu-in image is a National Treasure. bamse (talk) 10:16, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. List of National Treasures of Japan (sculptures) got recently featured, thanks also to your pictures, so my request is not urgent anymore. On the other hand it is always nice to have a good picture of a beautiful Japanese sculpture available on commons. Monochrome or color does not really matter. bamse (talk) 10:48, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Looking forward to your new pictures. As for the Kudara Kannon description, I changed the image caption a bit to be closer to what the reference ([3]) says. bamse (talk) 22:21, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the pictures. I rewrote the caption as: "The unusually slim Kudara Kannon at Hōryū-ji has been conjectured to be a work of Korean artisans." to make clear that it is a hypothesis. bamse (talk) 09:26, 26 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I added the Hosso patriarch picture to the article. By the way, if you have pictures of National Treasure paintings to upload, that would be great as well. Most entries in the List of National Treasures of Japan (paintings) already have a picture but some still need a picture. bamse (talk) 09:17, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

National Treasures (others) edit

I replaced the blue Fudo with your picture. With the Arhat, I am not sure as your picture is quite different (colorwise) from the present picture which is from the Tokyo National Museum website. Have you seen the original painting and can confirm that your picture's color is closer to the original? bamse (talk) 23:49, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the daily National Treasure pictures. Something to look forward to every day. I keep adding them to the respective list articles. bamse (talk) 09:21, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

tenjukoku shūchō edit

Hello! Do you know, if File:Tenjyukoku embroidery.jpg which you uploaded is the same as the National Treasure 天寿国繡帳? bamse (talk) 20:56, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes. It is a National Tresure. ReijiYamashina (talk) 00:55, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Very good. I added the picture to List of National Treasures of Japan (crafts-others). bamse (talk) 17:02, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps, I will be able to offer images of Chūson-ji, bronze peacock pattern gong, Kofuji Bronze gong stand, Painted Fan in ITUKUSHIMA shrine et al in this category for months.ReijiYamashina (talk) 00:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Great! Looking forward to it. I just nominated the painting list at WP:FLC and am currently improving the shrine list. If you have any comments, suggestions, corrections (or pictures) for it, you are very welcome. bamse (talk) 00:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Your description on KAGENKEI(Buddhist Gong Kofukjuji) needs some correction. Please reference my description on the image.
Thanks for the image and letting me know of the error. I changed the English name to: "Buddhist ritual gong stand" and added: "The gong had been lost and reproduced in the late 12th-early 13th century. The stand is original." to the remarks column. If I understand correctly only the stand and not the gong is a National Treasure. Is that correct? bamse (talk) 00:31, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm pleased to hear quick responce. Referencing the National Treasure of Japan(1998/Mars15)edited by Asahi Newspaper, the gong also belonged to the National Treasure. The dragon stand is not lacquer but bronze(gilt). please correct it.--ReijiYamashina (talk) 02:06, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Corrected. Thanks.bamse (talk) 10:42, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Phoenix Byodoin edit

Hi Reiji! Do you know if File:Phoenix South Byodoin.JPG and File:Phoenix North Byodoin.jpg are the original birds? As far as i know, the phoenix which are now on the roof are copies and the originals (which are national treasures) are in the museum. However, I don't know in which year they moved them. bamse (talk) 19:22, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the images are ORIGINAL PHOENIX PHOTO PLATES. Museum open after 1996, when I went there. Before that time, both were replaced to replica and saved to the storehouse, but the date should be after 1970s. The photos were taken before that time. At least, the book "BYODOIN ZUKAN" describes the photos as ORIGINAL phoenix photos ""--ReijiYamashina (talk) 09:42, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. bamse (talk) 21:20, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Murasaki Shikibu Diary Emaki edit

Hello! Do you by chance know what this image is? The source says that it is from 1503, while the original emaki is 13th century. Also this image has a fold (running vertically through Fujiwara no Michinaga), so it could be from a folding screen or rather from an illustration in a book!? bamse (talk) 10:25, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the feedback. I know that the emaki is fragmented, because I recently wrote the en-wikipedia article about it. If you compare it to other images of the same scene, there is no such fold in the original painting. So I guess it is some kind of reproduction (as emaki or as byobu?) bamse (talk) 09:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the image. I did not find the image of the Korin box National Treasure. Did you already upload it? I will add the dimensions to the article. bamse (talk) 12:02, 24 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I added the writing box to the article. Thank you. Strange that it does not appear in your gallery. As for the emaki fragment, is it correct that 38cm is the width of the paper and "total 73.7cm wide" is the width of the hanging scroll? bamse (talk) 08:01, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
If 73.7cm is the width of painting+calligraphy, what part is 38 cm wide? The painting appears to be almost square, i.e. ca. 21 cm wide. bamse (talk) 11:52, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the explanation. Now I understood. bamse (talk) 10:04, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image matching for Murasaki Shikibu Nikki Emaki edit

Hello! I would be very happy if you could help with matching these five images to their position in the respective scroll. I would like to know: 1) Which number of painting is it? 2) Is there a text in the emaki that corresponds to the painting? bamse (talk) 17:25, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for the input on the images. Unfortunately I don't have access to the book you mention. Not sure i understand correctly about the images,
1. lower image on this page is Hinohara scroll painting number 2 (after text number 2)?
2. images on pages 15-17 of this book: from which scroll? which number of painting?
3. this image: Fujita scroll? which number of painting?
5. upper image on this page: Hachisuka scroll? Painting number 8? (I thought this was painting number 8 of the Hachisuka scroll)

bamse (talk) 17:38, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot. I think I understood the placement of these four images. May I ask two more questions? 1) Which painting number is this image? 2) Can I cite Komatsu Shigemi's book with the statement: Four Scrolls of Murasaki Shikibu Nikki Emaki were already damaged and cut and remounted in 18th century? If yes, which page of the book? bamse (talk) 15:07, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for your patience with my questions and also for the nice image you uploaded. bamse (talk) 21:56, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fujita 2nd painting edit

Hello! Thank you for uploading File:Murasaki Shikibu Nikki Emaki Fujita Art Museum 2ndpaint.JPG. In the image description you wrote "Hachisuka edition". Shouldn't that be "Fujita edition"? bamse (talk) 13:41, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comment. I've corrected the description.--ReijiYamashina (talk) 07:52, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ritual objects of Kofukuji edit

Hello. Thanks for your recent images. Just a question: as far as I understand, there are two national treasures 興福寺金堂鎮壇具: one with items from an excavation in 1874, the other with items from an excavation in 1884. Are you sure that the images (1 and 2) show items from the 1884 excavation? bamse (talk) 11:53, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

These were unearthed in 1874 and stored in National Museum. I took photos in Tokyo National Museum Gallery..--ReijiYamashina (talk) 22:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Then the image descriptions need to be changed from "1884" to "1874". bamse (talk) 13:01, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement edit

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open! edit

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
