Image search parameters edit

I asked the following question in the help pages and received a very useful reply from @Bjh21: . I am recording the thread here on my talk page for future reference.

Question: "How can I filter or sort image search results by resolution and licence type?"

Answer: "For resolution, you can use filewidth:, fileheight:, and/or fileres:. For instance, to search for images at least 1000 pixels wide, add filewidth:>1000 to your search string. Similarly, if you want to look for images of at least six megapixels, you'd use fileres:>2449 (2449 is the square root of 6,000,000). To search for a particular licence, you can use incategory: with the name of the category for that licence. So for CC BY-SA 2.0, you might use incategory:CC-BY-SA-2.0. Putting this together, I can search for pictures mentioning "tower" of at least 6 Mpx and licenced CC BY-SA 2.0: tower incategory:CC-BY-SA-2.0 fileres:>2449. For more information, see mw:Help:CirrusSearch.

Many copyright tags are listed on the pages linked from Commons:Copyright tags. Each tag's template page should show the category it adds files to. You might be able to use deepcat: to search across a whole category tree, but I think the tree under Category:Free Creative Commons licenses may be too large for that: when I tried repeating the above search with deepcat:"Free Creative Commons licenses" I only got one hit. --bjh21 (talk) 11:42, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
