No source tagging

edit

You tagged various files as having "no source" even through "Source=Own Work" is clearly stated there. Why? TheImaCow (talk) 06:46, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TheImaCow, in that case, it is rather "invalid source" rather than no source. It's listed in the template. Spinixster (talk) 07:53, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Llewellyn Iron Works

edit

did you remove that section?

The section was legwork designed to make it easy for anyone to rewrite it into an encyclopedic form.

Use a maintenance template, instead of deleting it.

As it stands, anyone who would want to improve it, would need to invest a few extra days of research and realistically, it will probably never get to a finished state.

Clearly wikipedia does not have the manpower to finish the draft sooner than in a time span of several years. But it also does not have the manpower to do work all over again. SanbornMapBot (talk) 12:36, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

1. This is Commons, not Wikipedia.
2. The information is in the history so it's not like it's gone forever, anyone who is interested can restore and improve it.
3. Why are you using your bot account for this? Spinixster (talk) 13:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
1. i am not allowed to talk to you on wikipedia.
2. This is not something people do on wikipedia.
3. because i am logged in with it. SanbornMapBot (talk) 13:21, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I assume that you are not still thinking about an answer.
Then here is what you do: if you think the content should not exist, you extract all the references and put them either into the article or add them to the talk section. SanbornMapBot (talk) 17:16, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Again, point 2. Also see COM:BOTS: Bot accounts should not be used for contributions that do not fall within the scope of the bot's designated tasks. In particular, bot operators should not use a bot account to respond to messages related to the bot. Spinixster (talk) 00:53, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
But the article now does not say a word about where the Llewellyn Iron Works plant was, when they were incorporated, where their big new steel plant was, who bought the big new steel plant and about how they built plenty of steam engines during the WW1 boom. If you remove the text, you have to rescue that part which should be rescued. As is stands you just sabotaged a whole lot of crucial information out of the article and act like you are doing something useful. Can you please confirm that you believe future editors will search through the history to find useful references. SanbornMapBot (talk) 08:33, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
The article is about the creator, not the company. I don't see why information about the company unrelated to the creator would be important. If the company's notable, someone who is interested in it will make a new article for it. Spinixster (talk) 09:01, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
w:Template:Split
btw, people come to wikipedia to read about something they are interested in, not to write about what they were looking for (if possible).
Have you by any chance looked at how many articles linked to the subsection you removed? SanbornMapBot (talk) 10:03, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

На странице описания изображения нет сопроводительной информации относительно источника, авторства и лицензии

Добрый день!!! Если фотография из семейного альбома, каким образом мне указать информацию относительно источника, авторства и лицензии? Спасибо!!! Samveltunyan (talk) 10:04, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Samveltunyan Please send an email to COM:VRT to verify the source. Thank you. (Пожалуйста, отправьте электронное письмо в COM:VRT, чтобы проверить источник. Спасибо.) Spinixster (talk) 10:28, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Samveltunyan (talk) 18:45, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Samveltunyan The files are scanned from a photo, and it is unclear what the source is since you wrote the source as own work or leave a vague source. Since you have said that you own the source's copyright, you should go to COM:VRT to verify that. Spinixster (talk) 01:13, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
These archival documents were provided from the Central Archive of the Government of the Armenian SSR. These documents have written which department provided them. Samveltunyan (talk) 05:06, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Does the Central Archive of the Government of the Armenian SSR allow their files to be uploaded in any license in COM:L or are the files public domain? If the files do not apply to the licensing rules on Commons, they should not be published. Spinixster (talk) 07:43, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
One of the deleted photos is a photograph of my grandfather from a family album, taken in the 1930s by an unknown author, 4 other photos are archival certificates issued by organizations of the Armenian SSR (the Armenian SSR no longer exists). Help me restore the deleted photos. Thanks! Samveltunyan (talk) 16:33, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please send an undeletion request for those files. Spinixster (talk) 01:13, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

In response to your message on my talk page regarding the image, Apologies; at the time i uploaded the image, I did not understand how the licensing and commons work. I found it from a source, as stated in the file's rationale, but since it's non-free and i don't have permission, it can be deleted. Thank you. Lunar-akaunto (talk) 15:22, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
