Welcome!
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

File:FedEx planes at South Cargo at Logan Airport.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Flickr files
Hi! Before continuing to uploads files from Flickr, please read urgently Commons:Flickr files. Thx. Gunnex (talk) 10:30, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. WorldTraveller101I made a mistake didn't I?
File:Rivers from Eiffel Tower 3.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
Hello
Hello, WorldTraveller101. I have followed you here from English Wikipedia, because you posted a message on your talk page inviting editors to do so. I came here in an optimistic frame of mind, hoping and expecting to see you making nothing but positive contributions, showing that you really can fit into a Wikimedia project. The very first thing i discovered is a group of three photographs which you have uploaded, claiming that they are your "own work". They don't, on the face of it, look like amateur photographs. It takes no more than a minute to find versions of one of them on several internet pages. I have not yet checked the other two, but I may do so. However, before I do, I should like to invite you to answer the following questions:
- Did you take the photographs yourself?
- If not, why did you claim you did?
- If you did, when did you take them, and with what equipment?
- If you did, when, where, and how did you publish them? how did they come to appear on various internet sites?
When answering, you may like also to comment on the above string of messages about copyright infringements, including four warnings that you are likely to be blocked from editing if you continue to infringe copyright. The message at English Wikipedia was "if you can show that you are capable of being a constructive and problem-free editor on other Wikimedia projects that may help you to be rehabilitated on English Wikipedia", it was not "if you can continue to edit on other Wikimedia projects that may help you to be rehabilitated on English Wikipedia, no matter what the nature of that editing, and never mind if it includes illegal activity that lead to your being blocked on those projects." - Indeed I did on various trips. The mountains of West Virginia, the Paris pictures, were all me. Most were taken with various iPhone versions. The Paris ones were taken on an iPhone 5 but the West Virginia ones were on an iPhone 3. Hope this helps. WT101 (Chat • Count) 23:01, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Answering the questions:
- Yes, indeed I did, when I was in Paris in February 2013.
- Skip 2 per previous answers
- Taken 18 February 2013. These are the timestamps from the camera. Most were taken with an iPhone 5, but any on Commons used an iPhone 5.
- I did not publish any. Family members posted some to Facebook, but they were not published elsewhere.
Hope this answers the questions. WT101 (Chat • Count) 23:40, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
