Unbeantworteter Löschantrag

Hallo Steinsplitter, ich wollte kurz fragen, ob du diesen Löschantrag beantworten kannst? Ich habe ihn vor acht Tagen eröffnet und es gab im Vergleich zum ersten Löschantrag im Januar keine Gegenstimmen mehr, da - wie auch im Löschantrag erwähnt - nun ein geeigneter Ersatz zur Verfügung steht. Categorisation of Images

I noticed that you added an ̺'uncategorised' tag to a number of images that I either uploaded or had worked on. These include, but are not confined to File:Shakir-hassan-al-said-untitled 1.jpg‎ and other works by this artist; File:Madiha-omar title unknown 1.jpg‎ and other works by this artist; File:Faiq-hassan title unknown- 1.jpg‎ and other works by this artist and a long list images of paintings by selected Iraqi artists.

I just wanted to let you know that at the time of uploading these images, I also began creating new categories for these artists and their works and spent quite a bit of time tidying up the general categories of Iraqi artists and Iraqi monuments, by translating images that were previously listed in Arabic only (and hence, could not be found with an English language search), researching the background of various monuments and statues so that they could be assigned to named artists, adding images to relevant categories, adding details of artworks/ monuments with references to the image discussion page etc. In total, I spent about almost a week working virtually full-time on this project and felt that I was making good progress and this was useful work.

However, I abandoned all my good intentions, when a user User:Chongkian came along a few days' later and began deleting all the categories that I had previously assigned and began re-assigning images to new categories, often of his or her making. The reasons for these wholesale changes were never explained, but it appeared that the user only allowed for one single category per image. I searched WP policies around this issue, and from what I read, the policy appeared to be saying that only one category per image is desirable - in other words that Chongkian was on the right track and that I had been doing it all wrong.

At the time, I thought it was odd, because I was quite sure that I had seen templates requesting more categories be added to certain images - but this was clearly not consistent with the changes that were being made, nor with my recent reading of the policy. In addition, there are several major public monuments in Baghdad where the original designer died before the project was completed, and a differnt sculptor assumed control for its completion (e.g. Monument of Freedom & the Victory Arch - both in Baghdad. In the arts literature, both sculptors are normally credited with the work. But, Chongkian only allowed for one category - so one of the sculptor's names was deleted as a category and then a unilateral decision was made to assign the work to a single scultpor. Normally, I would expect any system of categorisation should be flexible enough to allow for such contingencies- so it seemed to me that it was logical that an image could be assigned to several categories simultaneously (e.g the artist or artists, the architect or engineer (if different to the designer), the type of work, the date of completion, the location etc). I certainly had been working on this assumption

In light of User:Chongkian's wholesale changes to the categorisation that I had been undertaking, and the confusing policy which I confess that I still do not understand, I decided that it was probably best that I quit creating new categories or assigning any works to categories. Invitation to Organize Wiki Loves Love 2019

Wiki Loves Love (WLL) is an International photography competition of Wikimedia Commons to subject love testimonials happening in the month of February 2019.

The primary goal of the competition is to document love testimonials through human cultural diversity such as monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture, and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love; to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects. February is around the corner and Wiki Loves Love team invites you to organize and promote WLL19 in your country and join hands with us to celebrate love and document it on Wikimedia Commons. The theme of 2019 is Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations of love.

To organize Wiki Loves Love in your region, sign up at WLL Organizers page. You can also simply support and spread love by helping us translate the commons page in your local language which is open for translation.

The contest starts runs from 1-28 February 2019. uncategorized not found

Hallo, zur WLM 2018 hat dein Bot eine ganz Menge unkategorisierte Bilder gefunden. Allerdings nicht alle. Was ist bei File:K5IM1204 v1-1.jpg anders als bei https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AKelso_hotel_02.jpg&type=revision&diff=324160406&oldid=321825188t ? Den einzigen Unterschied den ich erkennen kann ist das das erste Bild aus 2017 ist und das Zweite aus 2018. Das kann aber nicht relevant sein? Was meinst du? Das war meine Vermutung, aber File:K5IM1204 v1-1.jpg hat doch auch nur versteckte Kategorien. Allerdings stelle ich gerade fest das diese erst ein Jahr später versteckt wurden. Ich gehe mal davon aus, das der Bot keinen Grund hat sich das File nochmal anzuschauen weil du wahrscheinlich vom Upload Log wegarbeitest. Schade, sonst hätte ich gleich was machen können. Wen du deine Api umschreibst, dann kannst du wahrscheinlich ein Level höher auf Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United Kingdom anfangen. Alle relevanten Unterkategorien wurden erst verspätet versteckt. Ich schätze es wird etwas Zeit vergehen bis du das eintakten kannst. Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)

Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...

Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 November or Thursday, 10 November 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:

1. Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
2. Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
3. Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.

Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.

Wiki Loves Love (WLL) ist ein internationaler Fotowettbewerb auf Wikimedia Commons. Thema sind Liebesbekundungen. Der Wettbewerb findet zwischen dem 1. Februar 00:00 IST und dem 28. Februir 23:59 IST statt.

Das Hauptziel des Wettbewerbs ist es Liebesbekundungen zu dokumentieren durch kulturelle Diversität. Dabei können Monumente der Liebe, Zeremonien, Schnappschüsse von Gesten und Momenten aber auch Symbole der Liebe fotografiert werden. Mit den eingereichten Bilden sollen Artikel auf Wikipedia und anderen Projekten der Wikimedia Foundation illustriert werden.

Das Hauptthema von 2019 WLL ist das Feiern, Zeremonien und Rituale der Liebe

Das Beste ist, dass die Bilder nicht im Februar entstanden sein müssen. DerivativeFX

Hi,

I've noticed a problem with DerivativeFX on Toolserver: When loading the page https://tools.wmflabs.org/derivative/deri1.php , it opens my userpage in a frame. However, before I can do anything it automatically loads my user page. So if I go to [1], I'm unable to do anything because I end up with Special:MyPage after a couple of seconds.

It appears that there is something wrong with the javascript? I've seen this behaviour in Windows 10 in Firefox and MS edge.--Nilfanion (talk) 13:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - development update, March 2019

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Structured Data - early depicts testing

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Asking others to support their RfA

I saw your edit on Commons:Administrators/Requests/PlanespotterA320. I think it is ok, to ask someone on there talkpage to support them, but I do not find it ok to ask someone to support them per E-Mail. To be honest, I talked to @Sarang and Perhelion: about my Adminship before appyling, which is even recommended on Commons:Administrators/Howto: "Although not mandatory, it is often a good idea to talk to existing admins to get feedback about your experience and approach." There is also a gray border between asking someone if I am suitable of gettting admin and asking someone to vote support. And in the de.wikipedia I do not look into the Adminship-requests, but sometimes I would have prefered if someone would ping/informed me about a RfA, since I know and trust specfic persons quite well and would have liked to support them. I prefer to do the "Freunderlwirtschaft" public. (also no "Freunderlwirtschaft" would be better.) Do you see it differently? Problems with commons

Hi!

So, I've tried to update this image to show chile as a full member, but, even though I did so, the image that shows up is the same, and, when I click revert, a new image creates that is exactly like the old one BUT the old one actually turns into what it should be (i.e. chile dark green). Ive no idea what the problem is so any help is appreciated, maybe when I updated the image I should have chosen a different filename? Is there a way to delete the 3 identical, and therefore useless, edits ive done by mistake?

J'ai le plaisir de vous annoncer que la cinquième édition du concours Wiki Loves Earth en France est ouverte !

Le concours concernera 368 zones de toute la France, des parcs nationaux jusqu’aux réserves naturelles régionales englobant ainsi des paysages et biotopes variés.

Pendant le mois de mai, n'hésitez pas à mettre en ligne des photos de ces zones que vous auriez sur vos disques durs ou à vous rendre dans une zone concernée près de chez vous (à l'aide de la carte). Le règlement est disponible sur la page du concours.

Les plus belles photos seront sélectionnées par un jury national composé de commonistes, d'acteurs de l'environnement et de photographes professionnels. Un jury international constituera ensuite une sélection des meilleures photographies mondiales. Vous pourrez retrouver toutes les informations détaillées sur le site du concours

Hello Steinsplitter (A) How are you? I hope you are well. As per rights of Admins or Sysops you have. This is Tris T7. As per your reverted for my edited about many of file from Media needing categories. Example i have added category to specific files such as

• File:Banglanews logo20180725112204.jpg to Category:Logos from Media without category and the file name shown it is logo as you can see and it is press company as file name shown Banglanews so my question is Why you reverted my edited? Please kindly provide me some knowledge what i did wrong so i can understand and next time please allow me to revert them by myself that way i can learn and not to do it again with other files. And maybe before you revert someone editing if you can kindly communicate with them before revert and find out reason perhaps none of this would get easier to handle and you do not need double work to do.

File's are gone after renaming

protecting highly visible images

Ich habe gesehen du hast File:Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg gesperrt und da ich ein neuer Admin bin will ich bei dir wegen ähnlichen Sperrungen nachfragen. Ich würde File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-wordmark.svg für Nicht-Admins sperren (full protect für Verschieben/Hochladen), Seitenbearbeitungen würde ich auf "Sperrung für nicht registrierte Benutzer" setzen. Bei vielen Logos wurde Bearbeiten: "Nur Administratoren erlauben" gewählt[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. File:Wiktionary-logo.svg, hat nicht einmal ein {{Information}}-Template, daher würde nur den Seitenschutz (Seite Bearbeiten) aufheben. Wenn man als Admin eine bestehende Admin-Aktion ändern will, soll das vorher diskutiert werden, oder kann ich wenn ich es als sinnvoll erachte einfach bestehende Admin-Aktionen ändern? Moving .ogg to .ogv, precoding

After you moved several files I uploaded as .ogg to .ogv AV format, precoding perished; see File:Зеница Саша Ковачевић 02.ogv (Other formats; all formats from WebM 160P to VP9 480P got deleted, I did reset for WebM 480P so it only exists). I don't know if this will precode automatically or is it needed, but I know when I uploaded files they were precoded to every format and there were options in video player to choose format; now there are none. --Obsuser (talk) 15:15, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Problem messages in Hebrew

When I nominating files as NP or NO fair use etc. the language of the message is according to the default language of the user. I beliave that a lots of them did not changed it to Hebrew, therefore the are getting the message in English wich is not much helpfull. I beliave that dual messages in Hebrew and English would be better like I have did in User talk:טיפש ט"ו בשבט.
As I remember in this page you mentioned that it is possible to recognize file by home wiki uploader (files uploaded by user from he.wiki for example). Is there is a possibility to make a button that messages be dual languages like I did above?

Rotatebot

Hallo Steinsplitter! Vor einer Ewigkeit habe ich Rotatebot aufgetragen MSI 785GM-P45 Socket AM3.jpg zu drehen. Irgendwie hat es funktioniert (bei mir wird es zumindest korrekt herum angezeigt), auf Wikidata sowie in der Historie schaut es aber nicht nach einer erfolgreichen Drehung aus.

Kein Problem von Rotatebot sondern eher allgemeiner Hinweis: Ich habe heute Three piece matcha set.jpg gefunden. Dieses Bild hat ein ähnliches Problem. Only if I would declare that pic as a non-flickr file, wikimedia commons allows me to choose the option "zero claim". Category:67-meter-tall structures > missing Category:67-meter-tall buildings

Hallo Steinsplitter, nachdem ich bei Commons einige neue Kategorien bezüglich **-meter-tall structures angelegt habe, sind mir danach Ungereimtheiten aufgefallen. Es geht dabei um folgendes: z.B. in der Category:58-meter-tall structures mit dem Eintrag towers50-100|5|8 erscheint automatisch die Unterkat Category:58-meter-tall buildings mit dem Eintrag hig-rises50-99|5|8. Diese Unter-Category:**-meter-tall buildings erscheint jedoch nicht bei verschiedenen anderen Kategorien, obwohl in ihnen analoge Einträge vorhanden sind (z.B. bei Category:67-meter-tall structures mit dem Eintrag towers50-100|6|7 erscheint nicht Category:67-meter-tall buildings trotz des Eintrags hig-rises50-99|6|7.) Dies betrifft u.A. folgende Kategorien: Category:**-meter-tall structures: 59, 67, 69, 78, 85, 87, 88, 96. Kannst Du das evtl. beheben bzw. korrigieren? Hallo Steinsplitter, am Cache liegt es nicht, da ich diesen schon mehrfach gelöscht habe und auch Neustarts durchgespielt habe; bitte teste es mal wie folgt: geh in die Category:60-meter-tall structures, in der die Unterkat Category:60-meter-tall buildings enthalten ist. im Kasten kann man nun direkt die 62, 63, 64, 65, 67 ,68 und 69-meter-tall structures anklicken. bei allen außer bei 67 und 69 erscheinen die Unterkats **-meter-tall buildings, obwohl es diese Kats auch bei 67 und 69 gibt. Von jenen building-Kats gelangt man wohl in die Oberkats structures, in denen die Unterkats aber nicht angezeigt werden. Gleiches gilt für die Kats, die ich im ersten Beitrag aufgezählt habe. Error introduced in image

As noted in ticket:2019082310007918, the image as the velocity and acceleration labels incorrectly swapped.

It has been correct from its creation in 2011 until an edit made by you: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Orbital_motion.gif&diff=next&oldid=358869856

That appeared to be in response to a request for a 180° rotation. I'm frankly not following what it means to do a 180° rotation, what the problem wa,s or how that would solve a problem, but whatever happened, it was right and now it is wrong.--Sphilbrick (talk) 23:28, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: I haven't edited the file, it was my bot upon request by a user. You have to contact the user who requested the rotation. It is a Wiki, therfore there is a revert link on the relevant file page. --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:33, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

The problem is that using that font, the $v$ rotated by 180° looks much like an $a$ and vice versa, so it seems your bot swapped the letters (wrote $a$ instead of $v$ and vice versa), while they were really just rotated. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 18:44, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: What looks wrong? Steinsplitter reverted the rotation, so the acceleration points again in the direction of Earth and the velocity is tangential. Structured Data - computer-aided tagging

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. Hello. I was wondering if your bot could create a similar gallery for fawiki too? I know xwiki-DR exists for all wikis, but a wiki page which can be watched is still nice. How add a file to Wikidata

Danke. Leider fiel mir dann etwas auf, das ich verdrängt hatte: Ich kann mich mit meinem Standard-Brwosersetup nicht einloggen. Ich hatte aber heute nach langer Zeit eine Idee und tatsächlich liegt es daran: Ich habe in meinem Firefox normalerweise First Party Isolation (FPI) aktiviert – ich nutze dazu das dementsprechend benannte Addon First Party Isolation – und damit kommt derivativeFX nicht klar. Wenn Du oder einer der beiden anderen Maintainer dazu einen Patch einbauen kann, wäre das schön, sonst siehe das als Info, falls jemand anderes mal nachfragt. Man kann mit dem Addon FPI leicht vorübergehend abschalten und dann das Tool nutzen. — Speravir – 21:22, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Bot für Georeferenzierung

Hallo Steinsplitter,

ein Anliegen an einen erfahrenen Botbetreiber: Ich lade aktuell historische Fotos (v.a. 80er- und 90er-Jahre) von Dörfern in Mitteldeutschland hoch, (was schon da ist gibt's hier, ca. 20.000 more to come) die ich getreu Stefan Kühns Ansatz "besser eine schlechte Geokoordinate als gar keine" mangels Ortskenntnis einfach mit einer etwaigen Koordinate der Ortsmitte versehe. Da ich auf diese Idee leider erst nach einigen tausend Bildern gekommen bin, wollte ich dich fragen, ob du einen Bot bauen könntest, der folgenden Workflow abarbeitet:

• alle Bilder in der oben verlinkten Cat Category:Photographs by Michael Köhler by year durchgeht
• prüft, ob das Bild bereits eine Geokoordinate hat, wenn nein:
• prüft, ob eine der Cats in der das Bild liegt, mit einem Wikidata-Objekt verknüpft ist (das dürfte fast immer das Dorf oder die Dorfkirche sein), und wenn das nicht klappt den Namen in eine Liste schreibt die ich hinterher manuell abarbeiten kann
• sich von diesem Wikidata-Objekt die Geokoordinate rausgreift und in das Bild in Form des location-Templates (also {{Location|50.xxxx|11.xxxx}}, kennst das vermutlich) reinschreibt.

Sollte das machbar sein, könnte ich mir nicht nur sparen die tausenden Bilder die bisher keine Koordinate haben, manuell durchzugehen, sondern bräuchte auch beim Upload keine Koordinate angeben wenns der Bot macht, was natürlich den Upload-Prozess für die noch folgenden Bilder maßgeblich beschleunigen würde.

Das ganze eilt natürlich nicht, wenn du an sich dazu bereit wärst habe ich natürlich Geduld bis du freie Kapazitäten hast.

Im Zuge von Commons:Structured Data etc. wird man früher oder später sowieso eine Lokalisation über Kategorien, die sich auf geographische Objekte beziehen, erreichen. Insbesondere würde dabei auch die einhergehende Ungenauigkeit, die sich daraus ergibt, entsprechend mit angezeigt/zurückgeliefert. Die zusätzlich hinzugefügten Koordinaten der Ortsmitte zu den Bildern suggerieren, dass sich das gezeigt Objekt an der entsprechenden Position befindet, insbesondere weil es mit entsprechender Genauigkeit angegeben ist. Wie kann ich später wissen, ob es sich um eine tatsächliche Koordinate eines Objekts handelt oder um eine Schätzung? Was ist, wenn die Koordinate der übergeordneten Kategorie falsch war und nachträglich geändert wird? Deswegen würde ich dem o. g. Grundsatz von Stefan Kühn widersprechen. Würde es die Mehrheit auf Commons so sehen, hätte es bestimmt schon einen entsprechenden Bot gegeben. Ergo würde ich es bei ein möglichst genauen (Geo-)Kategorisierung belassen, was auch das Erstellen neuer beinhaltet. Gruß, --Arnd (talk) 17:32, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2019 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), Ukraine and France (active during November), but it's still open in all the other countries.

If you want to take part where WSC2019 is still open, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, please consider that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, i.e. "nature and wildlife".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Deletion of pictures

Hello Steinsplitter. I am sorry for bothering you and for my late reaction as I was on vacation. I have a question on the recent deletion of some of my uploaded pictures. I can understand the reason for deleting picture of the toys, but I am not sure why the picture of bibliobox was deleted. The library is owner of the box and its photo. Also there are many other photos of biblioboxes and each of them have different design as it's owned by different libraries.
