Screenshotting locator map images to put in Wikidata edit

Hi, I'm screenshotting locator map images that were automatically generated in the Swedish Wikipedia to put in Wikidata. These images include your image at [1], so I'm giving you attribution. I'll be putting these screenshots under the same license as your original image, CC BY-SA 3.0 unported. I might be doing this action with other locator map images, but I won't leave any additional messages, since I think this one reasonably covers attribution notification. Thanks for putting the image up. Icebob99 (talk) 16:50, 25 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the information. Sting (talk) 13:13, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm also using this image of Morocco, under the same conditions as above. Icebob99 (talk) 01:22, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
My apologies! It's still the same image. Never mind about that! Icebob99 (talk) 01:23, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Use of Aristotle bust in scientific publication edit

Hi Eric!

I am currently writing an article for one of the top science journals "Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution" on soniferous fish - yes, fish that sing :) We have a panel in it that has a quote by Aristotle and would need a photo. Text looks like below. I don't fully understand CC2.5 - would you give us permission to use your image? As usual in science, we won't get paid for it - (matter of fact, we have to pay :) )

You can respond to simon.linke@gmail.com :)

Thanks Simon

Panel 1: Sonifery in fish as described by Aristotle 340 BC (Historia Animalium, Book IV, Chapter 4, Translated by D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson)

Figure 2. Bronze bust of Aristole by Lysippus (Image by Eric Gaba)

“No mollusc or crustacean can produce any natural voice or sound. Fishes can produce no voice, for they have no lungs, nor windpipe and pharynx; but they emit certain inarticulate sounds and squeaks, which is what is called their 'voice', as the lyra or gurnard, and the sciaena (for these fishes make a grunting kind of noise) and the caprus or boar-fish in the river Achelous, and the chalcis and the cuckoo-fish; for the chalcis makes a sort piping sound, and the cuckoo-fish makes a sound greatly like the cry of the cuckoo, and is nicknamed from the circumstance.

The apparent voice in all these fishes is a sound caused in some cases by a rubbing motion of their gills, which by the way are prickly, or in other cases by internal parts about their bellies; for they all have air or wind inside them, by rubbing and moving which they produce the sounds.” — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 132.234.93.85 (talk) 07:14, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Spelling error edit

Just FYI the word "International" is spelled incorrectly on the map as "Inernational". — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.180.196.88 (talk) 22:57, 16 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! But can you give me the name of the map? Sting (talk) 13:16, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I found it, it's File:Saint-Pierre and Miquelon EEZ map-en.svg. I will correct it. Thx again. Sting (talk) 16:18, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Political systems map edit

Please revert your changes. You're unfortunately wrong. Turkey is still a parliamentary republic. The system will change in 2019. Til it hasn't "happened", you cannot suddenly change it to presidential system. Best wishes - Arthur

I had other info, but reverted the map for Turkey anyway. Thanx. Sting (talk) 22:59, 20 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Stele of Vultures image for Tuberculosis and War—Lessons Learned from World War II book edit

Dear Eric Gaba,

I am co-editing a book entitled Tuberculosis and War—Lessons Learned from World War II. In my introductory Chapter I discuss both the origin of tuberculosis and the origin of war. We would like to use your image, Stele_of_Vultures_detail_01a.jpg, as an illustration of one of the earliest definitive records of organized warfare. We are documenting the little known fact that major wars such as World War I, World War II and now the ongoing war in Syria create highly significant increases in incidence and death rates from tuberculosis.

It is our understanding that you do grant the use of your Wikipedia images for most uses. Our book will be commercially published by Karger and offered for sale to a mostly academic audience. Sales are estimated at 2000-2500 copies.

The file we have now is: Stele_of_Vultures_detail_01a.jpg ‎(800 × 494 pixels, file size: 188 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Is it possible for you to make a higher quality image file available for reproduction in the book? This file is just adequate for reproduction. If you could send us a higher resolution file we would appreciate it.

Thank you for making your images available on Wikipedia, and for reproduction.

With many thanks,

John F. Murray, MD, DSc (hon), FRCP Professor Emeritus of Medicine University of California San Francisco

Modification and reuse of map edit

Hi Eric,

Just a heads up, as requested, that I've re-used your lovely map 'Pyrenees-Atlantiques topographic map-fr.svg'.

The new map has been modified to show the provenance of a newly described fungal species:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Epichloë_hybrida_provenance.svg

It will be used on this wikipedia site (once I have written the associated text):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epichloë_hybrida

I have acknowledged you by name, given a link to your image, kept the same license and listed the license information prominently.

I think this should all be fine, but just wanted to run this past you to make sure you're ok with it?

Can I use your picture for a book? edit

Hello Eric,

Cuurently I'm writing a book about Roman beauty. It will be a (Dutch) book for the general public, with descriptions, recipes to recreate some cosmetics and lots of pictures. Can I use your picture 'Roman Woman statue detail Istanbul Archaeological Museum - inv. 2269 T.jpg' for the book? All the best!
