VesyolkinEdit

After this edit.

  • I strongly disagree with your idea about filenames. If the file is named «Nikolai Petrovich Vesyolkin», the troubles appear:
  • 1) The filename with spaces cannot be processed in windows, the operational system needs quotation marks around this filename.
  • 2) The filename with spaces cannot be processed by any browser, the browser needs %20 instead of spaces.
  • 3) Long filename is useless because people search by descriptions. Noone will ever search for any data about Nikolai Vesyolkin, users will search only for Николай Весёлкин in Russian. The filenames in English is a great problem for Commons, yet it cannot be solved.
  • 4) Dots in filenames create additional mess with file operations. Having several dots in filenames, we cannot find the filename extension.
  • 5) All my images are named within a scheme: p-surname-nn-number, where p means person, surname-nn means surname and name, number means the number of image.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 16:49, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi PereslavlFoto, thanks for your notice.
  • 1) 2) 4) I wrote "something like"! So Nikolai_Petrovich_Vesyolkin_(18-11-2012) or Николай_Весёлкин_(18-11-2012) is fine.
  • 3) users will search "only" for Николай Весёлкин >> sure, everyone speaks Russian  . I think there are more people speaking English. Anyway, Filenames can be in every language.
  • 5) It's fine that you have your own system of file naming on your pc. But on commons it's better to have a system what everybody understands, not only you. Chears, --W like wiki (talk) 01:05, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, for those few who speaks English   there's an English description. That's why I don't believe in file names at all, and try to make informative descriptions in native and in international languages. But who cares about some academician working in physiology... Also, I thank you for the explanation!--PereslavlFoto (talk) 17:20, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

"Eurocrisis" (unable to translate from German the name)Edit

I saw you created the concerned file. But as I'm not sure to be able to edit it, can you modify it, making France as a red country? It's well known that the crisis was a main cause of my country political switch. --Dark Corlath (talk) 11:40, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dark Corlath, thx! New file name is now: Changes of government in Eurozone cause of Eurozone crisis.svg. Hopefully thats better to understand. France I will make red, when I found this information in the article as well. In the german article there are just 8 countries listed at the moment. Best regards, --W like wiki (talk) 03:33, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Concerns about redlinks in the VehicleModelYearC templateEdit

I just wanted to let you know about this conversation on my userpage with User:Mr.choppers regarding the redlinks on the vehicle-by-year categories that we are creating/renaming. Mr.choppers brings up a great point about some of the redlinks displayed by {{VehicleModelYearC}} being extraneous due to the establishments and disestablishments of certain makes (using Imperial as an example). While the new template certainly looks a lot better than its older counterpart(s), the functional issue posed by redlinks in some cases does need to be addressed and hopefully resolved. I would really appreciate it if you could talk to Mr.choppers about this issue and come to some workable solution. Thanks! Michael Barera (talk) 23:15, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Update: I've implemented the "displayredlinks=no" code into the new template, and the redlinks issue with the Imperial categories has now been resolved. We can also now implement this same simple code into any similar vehicle-by-brand category to solve similar issues of unnecessary redlinks for years before the establishment or after the disestablishment of a make. Hopefully, this simple fix has resolved the concerns of User:Mr.choppers. Sorry for any hassle I have caused. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 23:41, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Michael, I m glad that you had the smart idea with the 4th parameter (redlink switch) in the template. By the way, are you agry with this edit of mine? I also posed another question regarding the template name here. Best Regards, --W like wiki (talk) 23:59, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
We're all done with the vehicle renaming project, my friend. Thanks for getting this whole effort going. Making a clear distinction between vehicles and automobiles in the category structure really makes a big difference. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 04:21, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

--W like wiki (talk) 15:59, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

file:L Gewandhaus 1881-77,341.tifEdit

Hello I discovered that you established the Commons site for the Leipziger Gewandhaus. I have added the draft by Gropius and Schmieden for the 2nd Gewandhaus in Leipzig, but I seem unable to classify it into this section. Maybe you can help?--Haendelfan (talk) 23:34, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Haendelfan, thx a lot for your post. I think a draft for the 2nd Gewandhaus should be in category for the 2nd Gewandhaus, not in the root category of Gewandhaus. The 2nd Gewandhaus was bild according to plans of Gropius and Schmieden. So i moved it, hope its ok for you. Best regards, --W like wiki (talk) 21:24, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

commonslinks berichtigenEdit

Hallo W like wiki. Danke --ElbHein (talk) 19:08, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Grüße --W like wiki (talk) 23:29, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Grüße --W like wiki (talk) 12:52, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Sollte so jetzt passen: Versionsgeschichte Kategorie:Versöhnungskirche (Dresden). --W like wiki (talk) 12:23, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Danke. Also danke. --ElbHein (talk) 16:39, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

"Bundesautobahns"Edit

Hey,
I know there is the discussion about the general labelling of categories in English or other languages. But calling the category "category:Bundesautobahns by number" is the worst mix of both, German and English. Could we roll it back to "category:Bundesautobahn by number", please? --Jcornelius (talk) 08:15, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Trotzdem vielleicht andere Idee:
* Category:Bundesautobahnen by number oder
* Category:Autobahns in Germany by number
Andere Vorschläge, Meinungen? Grüße --W like wiki (talk) 08:31, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
