Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Wingerham52,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

Thanks for uploading File:Grand Ledge Clay Products.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:Grand Ledge Clay Products.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Chosing next month's theme (September) edit

Hello Wingerham52,
we decided some months ago to invite the challenge winners to help us decide the themes for the next month needing themes - in this case September.
If you are ready to help, I just started the section September themes on commons talk:Photo challenge, where you can post your suggestion / decide which of the posted suggestions (e.g. from the other winner or me) you like best. If you are looking for ideas, here's a list of suggestions that are waiting to be chosen, but you are welcome to propose another theme.
Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 07:53, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Wingerham52,
I answered on my talk page. --Anna reg (talk) 06:25, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello Wingerham52,
I posted your suggestions insects and fossils on the Photo challenge talk page, where we are discussing next month's themes. If you'd like to give some further input, it would be great if you could do that today or tomorrow, as I'd really like to have the themes ready tomorrow evening - giving us time to organise the page creation and the translations.
Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 11:44, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Categories and sub-categories edit

  • Category:Michigan -> Category:History of Michigan -> Category:History museums in Michigan -> Category:Michigan Heritage Park . I made Category:Michigan Heritage Park for your pictures. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:54, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I'll help you on learning how to Categorize your pictures.
  • Here are your uploads.
  • Look at the very bottom of File:St. John's Episcopal Church - Mt. Pleasant.jpg and you will see categories that someone else put in for you. This is a typical example how all your pictures should be placed into correct categories - with at least 1 category for each picture. More categories even better.
  • Here are my uploads. Look at the bottom of any of my pictures to get an idea how pictures should be categorized.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:42, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Michigan cathedrals edit

Hi. I see you have uploaded several photos of churches, mostly historic, in Michigan. I have been working to get photos of the Catholic cathedrals in the US. Among others, we need St. Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Gaylord and the Cathedral of Saint Augustine in Kalamazoo. If you are near those places in the near future, could you photograph them and upload the pictures? I realize you may not live near them, and I realize they are not near each other to begin with, but if you are near to them at any point I would appreciate your help. Thank you for considering this request. Farragutful (talk) 01:07, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

that's not ivy edit

Hello Wingerham52,
the photos you uploaded to the photo challenge "Windows" do not show ivy, but a plant called "Virginia creeper" (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). Best regards from Germany and good luck for the challenge! --Maimaid (talk) 09:46, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:Bishop Baraga.jpg edit

File:Bishop Baraga.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Richard E. Martin House.jpg edit

Thanks for all photos you upload to the Commons. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the Richard E. Martin House. Based on what I could see on Google maps, and on the house's National Register of Historic Places nomination form, the Martin the house is next door on the right. It might also be hidden behind trees; it's difficult to tell on Google Maps. I have removed the image from the pages you posted it on. If you are in the area you might want to check this out, and if I am correct, upload a new photo in this one's place. Sadly, I have had to do the same on more than one occasion. The nomination does include photos of the exterior. Thanks for your attention to this matter. Farragutful (talk) 17:01, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are probably correct on this. The GPS Coordinates are in between the two houses. The mailbox had the correct address on it. I did go up that drive for a better perspective on the picture I took, but I didn't think there was another house up there. I have made another error on a picture. Can you delete this one also? It would be called, Dozier Farm and it is in Davidson County. I did not post it, it would be on my commons uploads. What does it take for me to be able to remove my own photos, or edit the name?

Wingerham52 (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

While I am thinking about it, there is another photo error. If you go Michigan's historic page and go to Chippewa County, look at Kinross Township Hall and school. Someone posted a picture of a house that was just built a year or so ago. This is the site of the Historic place, but it was torn down. You can actually see the historic building on Google Maps Street view. I was up there looking for the building and it was already gone. This is the only error I have found in Michigan.

More house photos edit

I'm sorry to have to bring this up, but I have found a few more problems with some of the house photos you have taken in Tennessee.

File:Samuel F. Glass House.jpg: this should be a two-story, brick, Italianate house based on its NRHP nomination form.

File:Thomas Holt House.jpg: appears to be Homestead Manor based on its NRHP nomination form.

File:William Steele House.jpg: appears to be the James Webb House based on its NRHP nomination form.

File:Thomas Chute House.jpg: I'm not sure what this is. There is a Thomas Shute House, but as you can see, it looks different, it's spelled differently, and it already has a photo.

Image Use Notice edit

I don't know if you track the usage or file your own copyrights on the images you upload. I am dealing with a copyright dispute with a company that took my images off, wikicommons and did not comply with the terms of attribution.

While doing an audit of other images that were used without proper attribution, I found your images File:Cherry Bowl-Honor, MI.jpg which was published by you under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. It was published on https://www.exploremichigan.travel/5-of-michigans-best-drive-in-movie-theaters/ without any attribution to you or with the wiki project.

Just an FYI. Jsgoodrich (talk) 23:10, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have around 4,000 photos on Wikipedia. The majority of them are historic places, both national and in Michigan. Over time, I have found many of my images published on many different platforms, from other wikis, travel brochures and even in newspapers. And if you search a specific place in Google Images that I have photographed, it generally is the first image they show. And anytime they may show an attribute, it is for Wikipedia. I don't believe Wikipedia requires any attribution. You are not allowed to have copyright images on Wikipedia. And everything on this platform is copyright free and anyone, anywhere can use the content. When you upload a photo, you have to attest it is copyright free and of your own work. If you feel the need for having a copyright image, Wikipedia is not the platform. There are other web sites for selling copyright stock photography. You could earn a whopping $50 a month. I do this because it is fun hunting down these places, and I don't have to gut it. Wingerham52 (talk) 18:06, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
