Linking edit

It's good that you're providing cleaned-up versions of all those PSF images, but when you edit the originals to provide links to the cleaned-up versions, the links are almost always dead.

Compare this to this. DS (talk) 13:17, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

OK, Thanks for the reminder, I try remind to link properly using [[ ]].
P.S :Also I appreciate if you don't crop the big picture into smaller pics EXCEPT for the picture which do not have names / label /identifier attached in it. See https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PSF-W1020003.png
It breaks my motivation to reduce the backlog when suddenly the amount increased Encik Tekateki (talk) 14:32, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Your English is a million times better than my Bahasa Melayu could ever be, but I'm not entirely sure what you're asking me to not do, sorry. (Obviously I won't do any more cropping until we've got this sorted out!) DS (talk) 23:09, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
HI DS, apology if my tone sound harsh, I meant that it is OK to crop the pictures BUT only applicable to the picture which do not have the labels /identifier on them
For example, in this same images, this original scan picture https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PSF-W1020003.png , there are 2 images that are without any labels/identifier on the original scan pictures, namely  and  . In this case, yeah it is totally fine to crop the images and give them their appropriate labels and identifier. But not on the images that already have the label / identifier.
I'm sorry, I'm still not clear. Let me try again. PSF images have two sorts of labels on them - let's call them "internal" labels, handwritten and messy, like in this one  , and the "public" labels, formal and proper, like in this one  . Are you asking me to a) always remove the internal labels, b) never remove the internal labels, or c) something else? Sorry for the inconvenience. DS (talk) 22:28, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi DS, it's alright. I think a or b are unnecessary , what I proposed is c for sake of reducing backlog of PSF.
Basically , the 2 pictures that you provided is good because there are clear identifications of what is that thing about.

Like this is worm gear (See label 1307 worm gear)  and this is well structure.(See label w-32 well)

Just there are some picture that do not have any names to identify what is that thing / animal/plants . Once again, looking at this ori scan picture   ,and in this picture, both of this   (it should have label washboard in the ori scan) and   (it should have label warbler in the ori scan)do not have sort of naming/label on it and it causes hiccups when we want to upload the images because we do not know what is that image shows.
See another example of ori scan: , due to at that time I do not know what is that bottom left picture represents, I named the images at that time to P Berries until it got identified by other Wikimedians @Thiotrix: (Thanks) . See: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3APepper_%28PSF%29.png&type=revision&diff=351793520&oldid=351702302
So, in my opinion, DS you should do the option C . Crop up only the images without labels and upload them using appropriate names. For example,   have 3 picture (all are in top left corner) without any labels to identifying it, in my opinion, that 3 picture should be cropped and labelled appropriately and NOT ALL of images inside the ori scan to reduce backlogs and also to save your time too. Hope this will clear everything up. ;) Cheers Encik Tekateki (talk) 11:06, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I can pretty easily identify the unlabeled images because all the images in a given scan have English names that are very close to each other, alphabetically (which is the whole point). In the scan you provide, one of the images is a watch and one is a waffle iron (I'm not sure about the third). So, only crop and upload the images that are unidentified (and which I can identify)? Okay. DS (talk) 01:04, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ah, and third one identified: it's baleen (or "whalebone"). DS (talk) 13:05, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
It is very nice that you able to be able to identify it. :) This is the spirit of Commons ! :) Thanks by Encik Tekateki (talk) 14:44, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the most recent images: check my uploads, I've identified many (though not all) of the unlabeled images. DS (talk) 15:30, 18 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mistagging copyvios edit

Reasons like personal photo, an advertisement, or out of scope is not a valid reason to request copyvio speedy deletion. Refrain from performing this further. You can either manually tag and notify with {{SD}} (for file page) and {{Speedynote}} (for talk page) or use Help:QuickDelete. Thanks. 1989 (talk) 09:17, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi admin @1989: , sorry about that. I always thought that Speedy Deletion performs same as Copyvios.
What led me to this belief because I see the pages for COM:SELFIE tagged directed to here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Personal_files_for_speedy_deletion and COM:ADVERTS tagged directed to here : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Other_speedy_deletions
Sorry for any inconveniences caused. Perhaps this should be done by more experienced volunteers.
Kindly forgive me for this time gaffe and don't ban me please.
Truly sorry by: Encik Tekateki (talk) 04:31, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Initial and Factotum Initial edit

Hello,

Please do not confuse initials and factotum initials. A factotum initial is like a decorated box with an empty space in the middle in which a letter is drawn, that could be easily replaced by another letter. If the letter cannot be easily changed, this is an initial but not a factotum initial.

For example, this is a factotum initial :

and this is an initial :

Yours, F (talk) 19:21, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, truly apologies for the mistake of categorization. Welp, whenever I free, I changes back to "X" as initials. Truly apologies for the mistake cat Encik Tekateki (talk) 23:32, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Update: Hi @Kilom691: , I done all the "escapees" miscat of factotum initials. So sorry of this mistake Encik Tekateki (talk) 04:32, 11 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Presagis.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) edit

Please use SVG
Thank you for uploading some images! Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. 2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Possible project edit

Since you were involved in producing cleaned-up versions of the PSF line art, I thought perhaps you might be interested in an equivalent project with images I extracted from The Tacoma Times. They're certainly not all line art, but many of them are. DS (talk) 14:32, 2 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi DS , thanks for your work for the project but nowadays my time is more spent to my newborns nowadays which you see from my contribution logs. I think I am unable to commit my time this time round.
However, the reasons I am involved with Pearson PSF cleanup previously because I used many of the free (as in copyright and also price) images as my presentation clip-art back then I was in High School , and to repay back the Commons community, I spend quite a lot of time cleaning up the rest of PSF images to usable states. Thank you again from Encik Tekateki (talk) 12:37, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's fine; thank you just the same, and also congratulations on this new phase of your life. DS (talk) 14:02, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category edit

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Herringbone pattern. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 05:31, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Jmabel , thanks for the heads up. Next time, I try to keep this in mind.
Side note: Originally Category:Herringbone pattern redirects to Category:Herringbone patterns (impact craters ) which is deeply misleading. That's why I blank out the pages without giving a thought of a proper way to prevent that category will be misused in the future. Thanks again.
Encik Tekateki (talk) 05:42, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, if you use {{SD}} these will pretty reliably get deleted within a few days. Blanking may take a month or more for anyone to spot the anomaly. - Jmabel ! talk 17:43, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Ah Moi Cantik Berpakaian Baju Kebaya Nyonya di Melaka (Tahun 2018).png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
