Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Allereerst wil ik je hartelijk bedanken voor de foto's die je voor Wikipedia gemaakt hebt. Van 1 tot 30 september wordt Wiki loves Monuments georganiseerd. Omdat jij in het verleden foto's hebt gemaakt van rijksmonumenten wil ik je graag uitnodigen om mee te doen aan deze fotowedstrijd. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Watermerk edit

Weefemwe, veel van je foto;s van rijksmonumenten bevatten een watermerk met (c) wfmw 2011. Alle afbeeldingen zouden moeten worden aangepast door het watermerk te verwijderen. Het gebruik van watermerken wordt sterk ontmoedigd door het beleid. Als een watermerkloze versie van de afbeelding voorhanden is, upload die dan met dezelfde bestandsnaam en verwijder daarna het sjabloon. HenkvD (talk) 03:59, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Geachte heer,

In het kader van Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 heb ik een aantal foto's ge-upload die een watermerk bevatten.

Op uw verzoek ben ik bezig deze foto's opnieuw -en nu zonder watermerk- te uploaden. Het lukt mij echter niet dat onder dezelfde naam te doen.

Er komt steeds een foutmelding in rode letters. Daarom heb ik de naam aangepast met toevoeging van: -zonder watermerk.

Anders weet ik niet verder te komen. Wilt u t.z.t. kijken of dit met de oude foto's te combineren is.

Ondertussen heb ik inmiddels de groep van dubbele met/zonder watermerk-bestanden samengevoegd. Ik zie dat er nog steeds foto's zijn die een watermerk dragen. Bijvoorbeeld: File:Rouveen, ORW 350.JPG. Het gemakkelijkste voor ons is als u onderaan de pagina op 'Een nieuwe versie van dit bestand uploaden' klikt, maar als dat niet mocht lukken kan ik de bestanden wederom samenvoegen. Kunt u van de verschillende bestanden die nog een watermerk dragen een nieuwe versie uploaden? Alvast bedankt! Romaine (talk) 16:13, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Todtmoos, Germany.jpg is gelukt, maar ik snap niet waarom deze File:Station-Leeuwarden-WLM.jpg niet goed werkt. Op de kleine fotootjes onderaan ziet u dat ik hem wel zonder watermerk heb ge-upload (als je op de kleintjes klikt kun je dat zien), maar de grote versie bovenaan pakt het niet op. Kunt u de verkeerde niet gewoon weggooien, dan blijft de goede van zelf over, denk ik.

Dat is een bug in de software, daar gaan de technische mensen zorg voor dragen, er is melding van gemaakt. Komt met deze tijd vanzelf goed en hoef je geen moeite voor te doen. We've already thanked you for your contribution to the Wiki Loves monuments photo contest. But with a contest, there are prizes to win!

The award ceremony will be held in Utrecht on Saturday the 5th of November, at the end of the Dutch Wikimedia Conference at Media Plaza, held the same day. Media Plaza is located next to the Central Station in Utrecht, in the middle of the shopping mall.
Admittance is free from 3pm onwards, just in time to catch the last few presentations at the WCN. Off course you can join us for the full day conference as well and enjoy a day full of information on wiki's and cultural heritage. After the ceremony, our location sponsor generously offers a free drink to everyone!

Alle winnende foto's van Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 zijn ondertussen gedrukt als kalenders.

Wikimedia Nederland stelt er hier 100 van beschikbaar voor alle uploaders van de afbeeldingen. Geef op de bijgevoegde link je naam en adres en we sturen je kosteloos een exemplaar toe, als dank voor je deelname! Let op: op = op!! Bestel hier één kalender per adres.

Ook dit jaar zal er in september weer een Nederlandse Wiki Loves Monuments plaatsvinden, als onderdeel van de internationale wedstrijd. Meer informatie vind je tegen die tijd op http://www.wikilovesmonuments.nl/.
Ook zoeken wij nog vrijwilligers die het leuk vinden om mee te helpen met het organiseren van de landelijke wedstrijd of van locale evenementen (een "Wiki takes..." in je eigen woonplaats dus!). Meer informatie daarover vind je op de wiki van Wikimedia Nederland.

Een professionele jury kiest straks uit alle inzendingen de beste foto’s in drie categorieën: beste foto van een monument, beste foto van een ornament en beste foto van een Dudok monument. Daarnaast is er ook een speciaal klassement voor de inzenders van de meeste foto’s van unieke monumenten. Wil jij ook kans maken op één van de vele prijzen, beschikbaar gesteld door onze partners en sponsoren? Vergeet dan niet om op Wikimedia Commons, onder voorkeuren (rechts bovenin, naast je gebruikersnaam) het vinkje bij e-mail van andere gebruikers toestaan (onder het kopje e-mail in het gebruikersprofiel), aan te vinken. Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is weer begonnen! edit

Beste Weefemwe,

Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is vorige week begonnen! Aan deze fotowedstrijd nemen dit jaar 54 landen deel, waaronder bijvoorbeeld Nederland, Groot Brittannië, Thailand, Rusland, Oekraïne, maar ook de eilanden Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius en Sint Maarten in de Nederlandse Caribean. Je wordt dus van harte uitgenodigd om te kijken tussen de deelnemende landen of jouw vakantieland er ook bij zit dit jaar en je foto's uit die landen ook te delen!

Net als voorgaande jaren hebben we prijzen voor de mooiste foto en de meeste foto's en een keus gemaakt voor een speciale categorie. Heb jij een foto gemaakt van een monument waarvan voor 1 september 2017 nog geen afbeelding op Wikimedia Commons bestond? Dan doet de afbeelding mee in de speciale categorie! Heeft een monument nog geen foto in de monumentenlijst op Wikipedia, dan is het aannemelijk dat we er nog geen foto van hadden. Om het zoeken naar monumenten zonder afbeelding wat makkelijker te maken, kun je op Wikipedia lijsten en een kaart van Nederland vinden.

Tot slot nodigen we je nog van harte uit om volgende week met ons op pad te gaan. Op zaterdag 16 september wandelen we tijdens een Wiki Takes rond in Hoorn: op zondag 17 september doen we hetzelfde in Leiden. Onder ervaren gidsen wandelen we langs monumenten in de stad en nemen we ruimschoots de tijd om de monumenten goed op de foto te zetten. Aanmelden verplicht en plaatsen gelimiteerd!
Tot en met 30 september heb je de tijd om je foto's up te loaden: de top 10 gaat door naar de internationale wedstrijd, waar de hoofdprijs de nieuwste Canon EOS 5D camera is!

Concorso Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2018 (English version)

Gentile Weefemwe, ti ringraziamo ancora una volta per la tua passata partecipazione a Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM). Il più grande concorso fotografico del mondo si svolge anche questo settembre per documentare e promuovere il patrimonio culturale italiano, con una licenza copyright libera.

Quest'anno è doppiamente facile partecipare: gli oggetti fotografabili coprono quasi 1000 comuni in più, grazie all'adesione di centinaia di nuovi enti fra cui Roma, e alla possibilità di fotografare circa 2000 alberi monumentali. Controlla le liste di monumenti fotografabili! Carica tutte le foto che hai e magari organizza una visita presso i monumenti che ancora non hanno una foto.

Quest'oggi il Parlamento europeo ha respinto la proposta di estendere la libertà di panorama. E allora scattiamo e pubblichiamo tutte le foto che possiamo, almeno per questi monumenti per cui ci è legalmente consentito!
