Gamla stan edit
Don't know to much about Stockholm geography but is there a difference between Maria-Gamla stan and Gamla stan? /Lokal Profil 21:14, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Maria-Gamla stan is an official administrative unit termed stadsdelsområde (roughly meaning borough area), containing the historically and geographically distinct but administratively insignificant stadsdelar (boroughs) of Gamla stan (Old Town), Riddarholmen, Långholmen, Reimersholme, as well as the west end of Södermalm and Årsta Holmar. Maria refers to Maria Magdalena församling, a parish whose parish church is located in Södermalm. In other words, all of Gamla stan is contained within Maria-Gamla stan, and Maria-Gamla stan also contains other distinct areas. —LX (talk, contribs) 07:13, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Correction: It appears I'm a couple of days behind the times. Beginning this year, Maria-Gamla stan no longer exists; instead, it has merged with the borough area of Katarina-Sofia to form the new borough area of Södermalm. A slightly curious name if you ask me, given that Söder in the name of the original geographical area of Södermalm refers to its position south of Gamla stan. Is somewhere articulated (I mean with good-printed boards of districts with their names) map of Stockholm in internet? Sometimes it is difficult to choose correct category as I'm not native inhabitant (afraiding to do mistake) but I don't know where can I search names of districts or even quarters. I have couple of tourist maps, but boards are missing there. Thanks for help! Dmitry G (talk) 14:18, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- You can find the official map of the office of city planning here. It's not a very good web service, but the map is very detailed with borders down to street level, both for the boroughs (which are larger, administrative units) and the districts (which are smaller and usually more well-known to the general public). —LX (talk, contribs) 21:12, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
