  •   Question In the image page you identify it to the subspecies level as Rhoptropus bradfieldi diporus. How did you figure out it was the diporus subspecies (and not the bradfieldi subspecies)? --Slaunger (talk) 20:03, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Comment On page 214 of Branch, B. & W. P. Koella, (1988). A Field Guide to the Snakes and Other Reptiles of Southern Africa. C. Struik. 328 pp. ISBN 9780869776414, two subspecies are mentioned. R. b. bradfieldi is stated as only ocurring south of Brandberg. This specimen was photographed at Twyfelfontein, about 60 km North of Brandberg. R. bradfieldi is endemic to Namibia and the two subspecies occur in only a small area in two virtually disjunct zones (the map is in the book). BTW, my identification literature list can be consulted at this spot. Lycaon (talk) 20:49, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    •   Comment Thank you for your thorough explanation. The reason I asked was because I wondered if subspecies characteristics could be seen in the image. I think it would be relevant to mention in the image page that the subspecies identification is based on the location with the reference just given. --Slaunger (talk) 19:29, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
