Nominated as the most valued set of images on Wikimedia Commons within the scope: Yerkes Observatory Telescope -- The largest refracting telescope ever used and the 111 years it has been used.
Oppose The concept of something changing over time is certainly a suitable one for a VI set, but here there are two images and the changes seem relatively small (new telescope tube?). I don't myself feel that as a set this adds sufficient value to the two images taken individually. Sorry. --MichaelMaggs08:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The largest refracting telescope that was ever built and used; I used a telescope that was more than 70 years old. I like to think about that occasionally and it is difficult because I do not know what 70 years would be like yet. The concept of something not changing (much) over time and of the kind of maintenance or renovation that would allow this? -- carol10:14, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Support Although I find it a little bit atypical for a VIS because these would normally show some kind of progress or process I think that the image set in itself self has value. That we can document the same telescope, looking almost the same, and that it still is after all those years the worlds largest refracting telescope makes it VIS for me. Another plus is that the two views are quite similar making it relatively easy to compare before-and-after. Both images also fulfill the requirements. The only thing my pedantic eye noticed as slightly confusing is that the image page for the "after" image says it was taken December 9, 2006 (which is confirmed by the EXIF), which match pretty bad with the image name; Image:Yerkes 40 inch Refractor Telescope-2005.jpg. So, I guess, ideally the image name should be changed for that one. -- Slaunger05:43, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Thank you for the support of this set. There obviously was a typographic error made when I applied the renamining template; I blame enthusiasm, actually, mine and not anyone elses. I was going to fix this (by actually uploading it named correctly and correcting all the other wiki) before the official start to this review system -- when I determined if I could do that and how to do that. -- carol12:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
