How to vote edit

Hello.

I read this page but I don't understand how can I vote. --ComputerHotline (talk) 16:51, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Voting instructions have yet to be added to the page. I'm guessing it's still being decided whether to reuse last years software etc. /Lokal_Profil 18:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
So, please attach a message to "Voting" section that "The voting has not run yet." ;-) Without this information many people can be confused. Patrol110 talk 12:04, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Committee mailing list edit

I don't seem to be able to join the Committee Google group, nor to find the group when doing a Google search for that matter. Has anyone managed to sign up to the group recently? Pruneautalk 11:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Issues with POTY 2008 edit

Hi everyone, I'd just like to highlight a few issues with POTY 08, and why it is taking so long. The original organising group seems to have disappeared in the middle of last year. Since nothing was happening, Adam Cuerdan and I tried to get POTY 08 running ourselves. When we tried, we had some problems with the servers. Fortunately, Bryan said that he is willing to solve the server programs and run the code. But he needs some help! The metadata for all the POTY pictures needs to be collected.

Also make sure to replace the featured picture template with the {{Assessments|comy=5|year=2008|com=1}} POTY template for each picture!

If volunteers want to collect the following information, save it as an excel file, and email it to Bryan (his email):

name title promoted potd author1 author2 author3 license1 license2 contributor category location

For example, this might look like:

name
The_war_between_Anthopleura_sola_1.jpg
title
War between Anthopleura sola
promoted
20080307
potd - (blank for this picture)

contributor - (put your name)

Other animals
location

I have done all this for the "Other animals" category, but the others still need to be done. I start traveling tomorrow, so I won't have reliable internet access. Also, Adam says he won't be on Commons for a couple of months. So it is all in your hands now! --JalalV (talk) 00:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting us know. I'll take of the Birds category (but I won't have time to do all the categories). Pruneautalk 09:16, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I figure that if a group of people each does one category each, then it can be achieved relatively quickly. :-) --JalalV (talk) 09:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Did I vote right? :( edit

Hi, sorry to bother you. I just voted for a whole bunch of pictures, but I'm not sure I voted with my unified Wiki account or not. (If it's not unified, then I wouldn't qualify to vote). Please tell me how to do this if I did it wrong (before you void my votes!) Kreachure (talk) 17:41, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thanks for voting! Your account isn't unified yet, but if you go to Special:Preferences, you can unify it and all will be in order. Cheers, Pruneautalk 20:59, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I merged them now. Thanks for your help! --Kreachure (talk) 21:56, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Apparently not yet? Lycaon (talk) 16:59, 14 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Um, how about now??? If I still couldn't merge them now, I'm stumped. Special:MergeAccounts says my merge with commons and English WP and 6 other Wikipedias is done, so isn't that all? Please don't delete my votes!!! T_T Kreachure (talk) 22:40, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well...will you link your Commons account with your enwiki account mutually in your userpages, so that others can confirm you have an over-200-edits useraccount?--miya (talk) 22:49, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Why would I need do this? I already did the unification many times, and it says I'm unified, and I can login to any Wiki project with the same username and password! If I'm still not unified, then perhaps you could tell me why not, and what I should do to be unified???? --Kreachure (talk) 16:08, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comments...? edit

Well, I hate being so exasperating, but I seriously have another doubt. If I already voted for the images before you put up the comment option, but I want to comment on the images I voted, what do I do? I don't want to double vote or something, because that would be annoying... Kreachure (talk) 22:45, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for voting. If you hope to add comments after voting, you can open voting pages such as this one, which you'll find in your contribution history page, and add comments manually. If you happen to vote the same image twice, you can open the vote page and remove the double vote (removal of eigher the former vote or the latter one will do, I think).--miya (talk) 18:28, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see. I thought the actual vote pages were gone, but now I know how to access them again. Thanks. Kreachure (talk) 19:31, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Queries about the final - please ask below edit

Multiple votes edit

Nobody reads the instructions :( I have made the one vote only rule bigger! --MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:14, 19 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

All these users have fixed their multiple votes now. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 18:41, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Download Link edit

Is it only for me that the download link on the page does not work? I am unable to download an archive of the POTY for any year. Paul-ish (talk) 03:25, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's still down, any chance of getting it back up? Thanks! Dottydotdot (talk) 19:25, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I updated the links. You can find them at http://stable.toolserver.org/poty/static/ . The 2008 archive is not prepared yet. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 01:39, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Dottydotdot (talk) 07:42, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Out of interest, when might the archive be ready? No rush, just wondering? Thanks! Dottydotdot (talk) 10:17, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you pfctdayelise. I can't wait for the 2008 archives! Paulish (talk) 18:29, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hey just me again checking in. Any idea when the 2008 archives will be up? Will it be after the winner is chosen? Paulish (talk) 18:07, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Counting the votes edit

Hi, I started to help you with checking, but I noticed a problem: The votes dont have a signature, so I can not assure, that the vote was added by the voter. E.g. there are IP votes also on the votelists of the favorites, how to handle this? We should check the votelists of the top places. --Martin H. (talk) 23:38, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Or can we have a speedy botcheck "Voter never edited the votelist" on the talkpages to check and remove them? --Martin H. (talk) 23:40, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi Martin - good questions. I have copied them across to Commons talk:Picture of the Year/2008/Voting#Checking the round 2 results where the discussion of round 2 checking is taking place. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:28, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
