Description
Svenska: VAS. Porcelain vase decorated in underglaze cobalt blueQing dynasty, Kangxi period, c.1690-1710Shiny, white porcelain, brilliant cobalt blue and painterly decoration mark this vase out as a high-quality product. It seems that porcelains of this standard were manufactured in large quantities during the Kangxi period, an era that marks a peak of perfection for blue-and-white. Vases like this would have formed part of an expensive altar ensemble in China, but they were also exported. Comparable wares were excavated from a shipwreck in Fuzhou harbour dated by archaeologists to the late 1690s, part of whose cargo was destined for the Dutch market.
