Title
Description

English: English: During the First World War soldiers were involved in the trenches with "War Trench Art", which means "the Art of the Mines".

In this process, they took the remnants of burnt ammunition and modified them with in-situ means inside the trenches to make something useful with simple means of construction (eg with buns, with metal warming and shape change). Typically, these things that the soldiers constructed were sent as gifts to their relatives.

The object we see in the photo is a paper jar, which was made on the part of the metal cut possibly from a gun casing and has been glued as a handle to a French 8mm Lebel cartridge. A small royal crown is glued into the cap. The word "Somme", the part of the Somm River where the biggest battles took place, is engraved on the part of the blade.
