Description
English: Picture inside the Lawrence yard's left (southeast) side looking towards the mainlines and the x-over with new switch motor and mechanism. Lawrence yard @ Andover St. at the North end of MBTAs Lawrence, MA yard .near Broadway.

The two centered tracks in the foreground show the catching rails, the frogs (cross-over) are clearly visible, and at foreground right, the third rail (above the second fishplate) is a hinge-butt-end of the movable rail of that junction mechanism.

  • The hinge takes the form of two metal strong-backs through bolted into the rails forming a sandwich about the rubber hinge — the two plates squeezing a 1.5-2 inch big rubber pad over a foot long.
