English: Aldeburgh beach with holidaymakers, Suffolk

Here, local fishing boats can be seen lining the shore at Aldeburgh, as children paddle in the sea in front of them. There are bathing machines at the northern end of the beach. These have canvas hoods that prevent the occupants from being seen as they enter or leave the water. Aldeburgh’s economy relied on fishing until it started to attract tourists in the 19th century. Today, the town hosts a popular annual classical music festival, which was started by the composer Benjamin Britten in 1948.
