English: Birkenhead - Bournemouth express arriving at Basingstoke View eastward, towards Reading to the left and London: ex-LSW London - the West main line, junction of the ex-GW line from Reading. The 09.20 express from Birkenhead (Woodside) had been taken over by this 'King Arthur' at Oxford, had come via the Reading West Curve and is due at Bournemouth West at 17.35: note the GW carriages. The locomotive is ex-LSW Urie N15 'King Arthur' class No. 30748 'Vivien' (built 8/22, withdrawn 9/57). It was one of the 10 N15s loaned during the War (10/42 - 7/43) to the LNER (NE Area) to help ou; also it had been converted to oil-burning recently (7/47 - 11/48). |
