Notes
  • Significance: The mill is culturally significant, not only because of its longevity, but also because it contains an operable, intact wooden gearing system, mounted into a wooden Hurst frame. Through the system of shafts, gears, and sliding bearing blocks, the water wheel, turning at a set speed, could be made to rotate either pair of mill-stones at a much greater speed. The lighter staff lever system, used to adjust the settings of the runner stones, is also still intact.
  • Unprocessed Field note material exists for this structure: FN-13
  • Survey number: HAER PA-64
  • Building/structure dates: ca. 1770 Initial Construction
  • Building/structure dates: 1845 Subsequent Work
