  • Significance: The bridge is the first reinforced-concrete arch span built in the U.S. using the Freyssinet method of arch decentering. In this technique, arch ribs are pre-stressed by hydraulic jacks placed at their crowns to compensate the deformation due to shrinkage of concrete, differential temperature changes, movement of supports, and elastic and plastic shortening.
