For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Dresden, Reiterstandbild, August der Starker ADN-ZB Häßler 29.1.1983 Dresden: Reiterstandbild Augusts des Starken ("Goldener Reiter") am Neustädter Markt. Die vergoldete Kupfertreibarbeit von L. Wiedemann wurde 1736 aufgestellt und zeigt den Kurfürsten von Sachsen in der Tracht eines römischen Imperstors auf kurbettierendem Pferde. Die ursprüngliche Feuervergoldung wurde 1956 durch eine Ölvergoldung ersetzt.
