Ein Jahr Nationales Aufbauprogramm in Magdeburg
Vor einem Jahr, am 10. Mai 1953, legte der Stellvertreter des Ministerpräsidenten und 1. Sekretär des Zentralkomitees der Sozialistischen Einheitspartei Deutschlands, Walter Ulbricht, den Grundstein zum Nationalen Aufbauprogramm in Magdeburg. Die Ost-West-Strasse soll gebaut werden. Der Ministerrat bewilligte für dieses große Bauvorhaben 15 Millionen DM. An drei Stellen entlang der zukünftigen Ost-West-Strasse wurde mit dem Bau einer Reihe grosser Wohnhäuser begonnen, von denen die ersten jetzt vor der Fertigstellung stehen. In diesem Jahr hat sich dadurch das Bild des Stadtkerns schon grundlegend geändert. Dort, wo früher Trümmerberge lagen, und sich nach der Enttrümmerung leere, tote Flächen hinzogen, erheben sich jetzt vier-, fünf- und sechsstöckige Neubauten, in die in wenigen Wochen viele glückliche Menschen einziehen werden.
