Die durch ihre Herz- und Kopftransplantationen international bekannt gewordenen sowjetischen Wissenschaftler W.P. Demichow, Leiter des Laboratoriums für Organtransplantationen des I. Medizinischen Instituts Moskaus und Kandidat der medizinischen Wisschenschaften, und dessen Assistent J.A. Sitschenikow demonstrierten am 22.12.1958 in der Arbeitsstelle für Experimentelle Kreislaufchirugie, Leiter Prof. Dr. Kokkalis, einer Arbeitsstelle der Deutschen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin, eine Herztransplantation an zwei Hunden.

UBz.: Anlegung einer Naht in der Tiefe beim Freilegen der Aorta des Empfängers für die Verbindung mit der Aorta des Spenders. Obere Reihe 2.v.l. W. Demichow, I.A. Sitschenikow, Prof. Dr. P. Kokkalis.
